What things in life do you just not “get”? By that I mean you can’t understand why others do or don’t do something that seems to obvious to you? Let’s keep this nice and not start slagging people off in reply.

I’ll start bike related but feel free to pull off topic.

I don’t get why people don’t wear Lycra on an MTB. It’s cooler in the heat, warmer in the cold, can shed off water and generally is a perfect material to ride any kind of bike. To me, it just works better in every aspect of what you’d want from clothing to cycle in.

I also don’t get why people buy a 160mm trail bike and then complain they have to drive 2 hours to get to good trails as the local ones are dull. They’re dull as you’re over biked, buy a hard tail and you’ll find them interesting again.

Why people go out of their way to go to a lovely place, then decide to leave their litter all over said lovely place...

Slightly less flippant, watching sport. If I had the time to sit and watch it, I’d rather be out on my bike.

I'm with Fadda. I just don't get litter.

But also why go on holiday to somewhere foreign and then drink in English pubs, eat English food, dance in night clubs to largely english music, and spend the few daylight hours you are awake sat on some crowded beach slowly turning red. Why?

I once left a pub in Scotland, as i walked out the back door this dude was really beating on this girl. Like punches to the face. I step in and threw him in a burn below the pub. Then the girl starts beating on me for beating his ass.

YES, leaf blowers! Have always struck me as a solution looking for a problem. What’s wrong with the good ol’ fashioned broom.
They just seem to encourage neighbours warring with each other; on Monday neighbour A blows leaves onto neighbour B’s drive. Tuesday, B blows onto A, Weds, repeat.....

I don't understand why my missus and MIL both just put used dishes and mugs in the sink, run a splash of tepid water over and just wander off, when the dishwasher is directly next to the sink.
It's almost exactly the same amount of effort for them to create these ad-hoc bacteria farms as it is to just dump it in the magic cleaning box...

Nah, dogs are fine….I don’t get Cats. No love for their owners, sleep and eat around the neighbourhood, paw prints on EVERY surface….
Yep, its Cats I don’t get!

I'm the polar opposite I'm afraid, You wouldn't bring home a drooling, acute ADHD sufferer who rubs their arse on your carpet rather than use loo roll and is generally incapable of simple tasks like going outside for a walk on their own, Oh and they might tear your kids face off... but you'll buy a Dog?

At least you know where you stand with cats, give it food, install a cat flap so it can come and go as it see's fit, treat you with general indifference until it wants feeding or something warm to sit on.
TBH that sounds like some of the better romantic relationships I've had...

Don't get it. Expensive, limp, cheesy mess of a thing delivered luke warm to your door in only 90mins.

Pretty much any frozen pizza for 10% of the cost would be nicer IMO.

Buying highly inappropriate bikes for the riding they do, such as fatbikes for tarmac commuting.

Err... 😳

Getting very tempted to buy something with 29er/700c wheels, now I think my rear FatNotFat 29er wheel is dead.

Elvis juice I mean what the **** is that? On the strength of popularity on last EDL I bought me a bottle tonight. It’s large price for a small bottle full of bollocks! Beer-flavoured grapefruit pop! Thankfully have some proper cider to chase it away 😬

(And I normally like me a cool citrus hop on a summer's night. Gah)

People not picking up dog shit. You've let your dog crap in the middle of the path that you walk your dog in every time you take it out. You are at as much risk of stepping in it tomorrow as I am. It's really not hard to pick it up and take it to a bin.

- Litter dumped off the beaten track +1

- Offroad bikes with flared drop bars in the same position as proper handlebars with ergonomically sound brake levers.

- Ageing guys still ruled by their ****er egos desperate to be top dog. As seen red faced tossers in German cars all over the place, and in the Oval office. Get your slippers on and chill dickhead!

- Compromising the performance of your bike to avoid being uncool. Like being a tubby guy riding around in the mud is seen as cool by anybody really....

Lycra on mountain bikes. I mean, I get it on road bikes, cos aero is a thing, and road bikes is all about the numbers innit, ave. speed, big miles, watts, all that shit.

But on a MTB? Weird, makes you like Mr motivator, looks shite with knee and elbow pads and has no advantage whatsoever over well fitted shorts and top - I'm no fan of 'baggies' either, some seem to think it's either lycra or mahoosive ill fitting, seat catching shorts. Er, no, but something that fits your bloody legs.

Folk that don't ever dig or do any trail maintenance, does my nut in, as if it's someone else's job, your times too precious to put a bit back into the sport. Wallopers. It should be compulsory, if ye ride, ye dig.

Folk that claim gravel bikes are a better option than their MTB. Bollocks it is, either your local trails are shit, or you can't actually do any of the tech around you, so you buy a bike that gives you an excuse to ride dull lanes/extreme roads.

Rugby.

Horse racing.

Anchovies.

Smoking.

4K TV.

All utterly pointless. 😊

Street magic TV shows, were the magician approachs random people who seem unable to see the film crew.

Billionaires still wanting to make more money, despite doing nothing with it while people starve to death.
Multi millionaire celebs who think donating their time to comic relief etc instead of money is the right thing to do.

I totally get that lycra is better to cycle in, no matter what the bike is, you’re still sitting on a saddle (or standing) turning pedals, want to keep cool but not cold, want a garment to dry quickly, want complete freedom of movement with no waistband, no slippage, no keks, no seams and nothing flapping. Quality bibs/bib-shorts with insert are as near to perfect as it gets when cycling, Unless going to the shops or pub.

It’s how lycra looks that is the issue. People don’t like it because it’s unfashionable nowadays (and obesity is on the rise)

There are so many entries here I could just copy and paste. However, I've also got a few of my own.

1. Speeding (I mean, you're endangering countless others to show what, exactly? That your right ankle can pivot? Well done, you! FFS.)

2. #17 of 'The Rules' (Why can't a person wear the kit of their favourite team or rider? Weird.)

3. Food (why I am not remotely interested in it, but simultaneously can't really control my intake of it)

4. People who occupy positions in the workplace that don't need to (a man or a woman whose spouse makes plenty on their own, for example, or someone who already has a lot of money. It's not the desire to work I don't get - if by work is meant 'accomplishing something worthwhile in life'; I'm talking specifically about doing the 9-5 thing day in and day out when one could easily quit and spend the rest of their life doing volunteer work with the homeless or doing woodwork or writing a book or cycling)

Edit - If I see blocked drainage I will unblock it. But to me digging MTB trails unless its land you own or have permission on is just vandalism

The one I really do not get ( like cynic al) consumerism in general

I have something that works. It does not need to be replaced. why buy the same thing in a different colour or whatever it is. I don't think I have a single bike part that is less than ten years old ( bar consumables) ( a couple of rims - but to me they are consumables)

I have never bought new any furniture, cutlery, crockery, TV, Hi fi, curtains, etc - none of that sort of stuff. I have a load of crockery/ cutlery I acquired or bought second hand. It works. who cares if its not matched.

I have friends who pay thousands of pounds for house furnishings - a £3000 rug was one example. I just do not get it.

Micro-adjusted bike fit. It's probably more of a roadie thing. Zwift is the logical conclusion. If the laws of evolution somehow favour roadies we'll end up all leg.

There are many things I don't get, most of them already covered in this thread. Littering is probably the one that makes me most annoyed though. I cannot work out why anyone would think it's acceptable. Judging by photos from Bournemouth beach and from the Liverpool football celebrations I am in an ever decreasing minority though.

If you have a single drainer sink it allows you to empty cups and glasses and rinse off plates before washing. Not everyone has a dentist-spec kitchen to go with their T6 Combi and Santa Cruz.

The local trails I was working on yesterday have permission, but I have absolutely no qualms about digging trails in the god-awful commercial plantations that litter my local landscape. And you can comfort yourself in the knowledge that I really couldn't give a flying **** what you think on the matter 🙂
