A few years off the bike due to injury and now back and loving it.

I had forgotten how free you feel on the trail
I had forgotten how peaceful the woods can be
I had forgotten how thrilling it is to absolutely mail a trail
I had forgotten how close the line is between control and crash
I had forgotten that A&E on a Sunday afternoon it a shit place to be

I had forgotten that A&E on a Sunday afternoon it a shit place to be

Seriously? No need for a name change

A month off and I was forgetting how big the local hill was

The sense of freedom
How little time it normally takes to commute compared to commuting by bus (including walk to stop and waiting for bus time)
How even on a hot day, I typically feel cooler cycling home than on the baking hot bus
How so many cyclists and motor vehicles take liberties on the roads
How some traffic lights (such as Milton Road junction with Hill Lane in Shirley) are carp for cyclists, they have an advanced cyclist box, but the lights need a car to make the lights switch to green!
How unfit I am compared to in my 20s, all the way back in the mid 1990s!

They have improved the WiFi here but still really hot and muggy without air-conditioning.

Once I have been triaged I think I will wait in Subway for a couple of hours to cool down.

Before I turned braking my arm into a common injury, the front shifting on my road bike was always rubbish, no worry, I never used the 34t anyway and 50t was a nice all day chainring.

It's now faultless because I use it so much after what has been in effect a 4 year hiatus from cycling for fitness 🙁

I admire the way you don't just hide in the cupboard under the stairs from the moment you wake to the moment you go to sleep (downstairs obviously because stairs would fail the risk assessment).

Hope it's not too bad.

Blood tests which I hope I pass then the removal of a foriegn body. Not an immigration issue but a bit of wood in my arm. Then x rays on the ankle and toes. Guess which ankle...

Wtf have you done this time? Ever thought about using a GoPro and selling the crashes to you've been framed to pay for private health care?

Xrays done. Blood tests done. Oramorph and a pain drip into the arm.
Just need the stick taking out of my arm and the all clear from the doctors and should be home in time for dinner

Stick removed from the arm but now they are unsure about the xray of the abdominal area so I will now get a CT scan.

Getting a bit peckish now, I should have grabbed the Subway earlier.

Also been moved to a bed without phone signal so can't text MrsWCA so hopefully she is reading this.

Need x-ray pictures 😀

p.s. Healing vibes.

And in answer to the title...

I forget less exercise = less food.

I still eat like I've been riding loads and end up a fat bastard. That said, if off the bike means a stay in hospital I lose weight as can't stand or stomach the hospital food.

Your ankle is OK? Fantastic news, your e-bike will be waiting. 😀 Guess nothing can be done with a broken toe?

This is the best photo I have of the stick and it isn't great. The stick was about the diameter of a biro and embedded about 3/4 inch.

The big toe is quite swollen and strangely now shorter than the toe next to it. I am sure it was longer before like the toes on my other foot.

Did you get your loyalty card stamped in x-ray? You should be overdue a free coffee and twix by now.

And now the arm is infected and the antibiotics start...

...the doc also said they could act as a prophalctic for my smashed big toe. Who knew condoms helped broken toes heal

Led in bed sweating too much. Is it the heat or the infection?

Drawn around the inflamed area to see if it ruduces overnight. Wife to wake me at 11 for the next dose.

I really ought to have given up bikes and become a poet!
