Been needing to scratch the itch since forever so just treated the Marin to some new tan boots (and a new saddle)

I like the bike with or without but hey, a change is as good as a rest.
Show us your tan lines 👍
Nice! Slightly OT, how are the wheels? Probably a pointless question as I've already ordered a set.

Superstar Isotope. Absolutely love them. Lovely sounding hub if you're into that and feel like excellent quality.
Go on then, not my choice so will be coming off once I get round to it
They look great imho 👍
^ Black walls would make more sense as these are my 'winter' tyres on that bike and they're minging in no time at all from mud and road grime. I couldn't find that tyre in black though, so tan it is.
^ similar story here - couldn't find them in black sidewalls, but in this case the tart in me loves the look.
Did someone mention tan walls …..?
An enthusiast! 😂👍
Took these off the day after I got the bike.

I stupidly didn’t order two rears so go around on mix n not match at the moment ☹️
But there was a time…

I've presently got a similar itch. I've just rebuilt my old P7 last weekend in the guise of commuter/pub bike as it was looking a bit tatty after years of abuse and zero TLC. Its tidied up nicely with a new drivechain, BB, and other moving things, and I'm thinking tanwalls and a brown leather saddle and brown lock on grips to contrast with the Greggs blue paintjob
What tyres are you all using. I'm thinking something nice and fast-rolling (its going to be tarmac and bridleways after all) like some Schwalbe Billy Bonkers like these

MrsReadys 5010 - unsure to start with, but think it looks the biz

Onza Canis, in my case.
Good deal at CRC so made my mind up.
Would have probably gone for something similar anyway to be honest as this bike is only really a bridleway basher.
Love em on my gravel bike. But oddly, I think they're 'wrong' on a MTB ... 🤷♂️

Mine when it was new(ish), I’ve changed the wheels and tyres since then but I did like the tans…

Here's mine, love a tan wall!

Jeez sotonkona, does your arse get altitude sickness that far up in the air 😉
On a black or dark grey bike, or at a push white, tanwalls are cool.
On a coloured bike - minging.
IMHO, of course.
@theotherjonv yeah 2012 geometry was quite different especially when you're very tall! My year old 29er looks a lot less like a farm gate on tan walls!! 🙂

Well, you're halfway there. They look wrong on everything.
In the same way that white wall tyres look good only on some retro cars. Nothing else.

Hey, this thread is only for those that are enlightened 😉

Or at least those whose tyres are.
I genuinely arrived hoping to see a good'un.

Second picture in pal 😂
But remember, if you can't say anything nice.....etc
Tufo Gravel Speedero 40mm
Got a pair of tanwall Minions for the next build too, was initially against the look, but it’s growing on me…
Teravail Coronados on the singlespeed
Just put a set of Maxxis DTH tanwalls on the other single speed project which is being built. And have a set of 29er Minions to go on the Ragley Big Wig when the originals wear out. Oh and a set of WTB’s for the gravel bike (though currently in boring black wall).
It’s fair to say I have a thing about tan walls.
I love me a pair of tan walls, Hutchinson Touareg on my Camino and Magic Mary/Big Betty on the very dirty Evol

+1 for Billy Bonkers. They're stupidly light, but reasonably priced.

Love that 😍
Some really great looking bikes in here.
I do think gravel bikes look rad with chunky tanwalls.
Tan walls look great on some bikes. It really is frame colour-dependant.
I think they look good on my gravel slag but would look terrible on my full sus.
When I got my first mountain bike in 1988 all tyres were tan wall. In about 1989/90 black wall tyres became available and were the radical alternative.
This is now one of only two bikes I own, and it hasn't been ridden for a couple of years now. 🙁
Alas, it's sitting in storage, so this thread represents a nice invitation to look at it again.

(although i actually think my road bike suits blackwalls better, especially as the groupset is now all black too)
Teravail Coronado front and back. Really lovely, supple and fast rolling tyres. Especially so considering the size of them.
@kiwijohn that Diamond Back looks mint!
Here's mine, proper retro. All black on the modern and tanwalls on the gravel bike

Love tanwalls on my hardtail, suits darker colours IMO so dont want them on the full suss

Nice to see a return to tan. Blackwalls were getting a bit samey.
Purple ano next ?
Hutchinson do the nicest shade of tan IMO.

Just fitted them to my Shan - not sure, think they may be coming off again...

Despite all these great looking bikes. Still not convinced about tan walls TBH.

WTB (Prowler SL) on the ATB (Longitude). These tyres are used expressly for the sprightly prowling of pubs, pints and potato crisps via dusty bridlepaths and farm tracks.
Grey bike and tan wall tires. Judging by the thread so far this is acceptable right?
