Our smart new car came with a little compressor and BIG bottle of tyre sealant, which isn't too smart by my way of thinking. If I buy a space-saver for it then do I have a nice large supply of sealant for my MTB's?

Or to put it mathematically,
VAG spaff >= Stans spaff?

You might also need to buy a jack and something to undo the wheel nuts with. 😉

You've got a new car?
A NEW GERMAN car?

Ah well.

Will you still talk us lowly owners of French & Italian cars, or has the sense of superiority kicked in already?

😀

You know, the first time that'd probably have occurred to me was about 1 ohno second after I'd smugly rolled the spare out of the boot following an un-sealable blowout. 😳

Thanks SSS.

Rusty, it's a SEAT, so I like to think of it as a good solid Spanish socialist car, (in the same way as Jaguar, Rolls Royce and Bentley are still luxury British brands)

You'd have to stop next to their broken down German car first...

If VAG spaff (stop tittering at the back) is the same as Ford spaff, then it's a lot more viscous, don't know if that's a good or bad thing though 🙄

Assuming you can get your French/Italian car to start.

How thin would a space saver be for a smart car? It would look like the front wheel off a bigwheel.

Drac, it's not a Smart car, it a new(ish) car that's quite smart. (a bit like this, but without such massive alloys) [img] [/img]

Drofluf, a good point that I'd not considered. I'll go and give the respective bottles a slosh.

Oooooh, that's nice.

Spanish you say?
Don't forget to check all the Falanges on the exhaust.
Renowned for a noisey top end as well - could be the tapas.

Sorry.
😐

So how much did you pay for your large bottle of sealant, which will save you having to spend money on Stans?

For my Ford The bottles of sealant are about 35 quid (it's probably the same stuff or very similar). On my car you screw it onto the compressor and it is delivered through the compressor. I used it once but as I was trying to use it I noticed the tyre sidewall had a big gash in it, so it was no good. Can't beat a proper spare wheel. So the cost of using the sealant was 35 quid for a new bottle of sealant, 15 quid for a new hose for the compressor as it gunks up the compressor too. Also I read in the manual that once you use the sealant you have to replace the tyres as it is a get you home thing and even if the tyre is repairable its still no good. I can only assume that it has some chemical in it that can degrade the tyre. Not sure if that is just scare tactics from the manufacturer or not.

About 9 grand + the trade in. 😀 though to be fair, the bottle of sealant wasn't the main reason for the purchase.

Wobbliscott's experience is the reason for thinking about getting a proper spare.

I have a spare tyre/wheel with my Mondeo, but it's a diddy space-saver one - reminds me that I should check out getting a full size wheel/tyre and how that impacts on my boot space.

I like the Seat Leon.

Had to drive for a few days on a safety spare as changed the wheel and left the locking wheel nut socket on the floor in a customer car park. Security found it but driving on a safety spare is horrible, and watch your speed in the bends, my car tried to kill me.

Yes, but I still think that's better than waiting to be rescued and the faff of having to replace a shredded tyre mid-journey.

They are, so Rusty was correct. It is a nice car ta, nicest I've ever bought! (think it's the same as a Mk4 golf underneath)
