When i opened up my pro 2 hub the springs that engage the pawls had broken (was only engaging on 2 pawls)
No springs and wanting to ride led me to do the bodge shown above.
It worked very well and the hub was super clicky and engaged as quick as usual. May get someone out of a sticky situation or enable them to ride when they are waiting on getting some springs.
Toptastic bodging there. I salute you.
cheers dude, sent off to the bike mag comps for top bodging 🙂
So have I 😉
Ton knuckle sarnie heading your way 😉
bodgetastic.
that, is bloody brilliant.
please report back post ride 😀
it worked 🙂
Brilliant solution!
nice on lad..
Interesting to see how the plastic holds out in the ice and snow though....
Kit required
4 small zipties
Nail clippers
Cut them too about 8mm
Jobs a good un
Can we call it a "work around" rather than bodge 😉
TP - its not a permanent solution per se more of a get out/get home idea. Why would the NYLON rather than PLASTIC be affected in ice/snow though?
We are not worthy, an excellent bodge Sir.

Hate to say it but how many people take the kit to remove a cassette/freehub on the trail?
That aside, top work!
Genius, worth remembering if one ever goes titsup on the trail

They pull off really easily, remove qr and give the whole cassette/freehub a tug and it all comes off as one unit.
Good point!
Yup, just imagine the above pic but with a cassette attached 🙂
That sir, is awesome!
Hats off! 8)

Well, about 1/3 way round GT black, all my pawl springs went - as said above, a good stiff pull of the cassette will bring the cassette and freehub off the pro II at the trailside - we pulled a good friend's apart too and split the springs between us. Saved a long walk down to the Hub!
Great bodge. How the heck did you think of doing that?
All hail the power of the zip tie.
If lizards ever managed to manipulate said plastic tie with their limbs then the human race would be doomed.
sa wit suggested a few years back
Superb. Bodge if the year as far as I can see. 10/10 for that! 🙂
PP - when you sent your tube/ziptie idea to the mags what addy did you use?
best [s]bodge[/s] er, workaround i've seen this year, well done Rob.
copyright? be swift my top bodger before hope steal the idea and put the price of their hubs up 🙂
Zip ties are the all time greatest bit of kit ever. Once replaced a wornout bush on a starter motor with a zip tie found in the engine bay and it got me round France.
genius 😯
Any updates? Has anyone been using this 'workaround' long term?
I performed this very same bodge 2 and 1/2 years ago whilst biking with Switchbacks in Spain. I sent some photos off to the mags, hoping for the £100 CRC voucher type thing, but unfortunately heard nothing. A good bodge by the way.
EDIT - sent a photo to Hope too. They sent me new springs for free...
I've been using this 'mod' in a pro II hub for a couple of year now after seeing it done in a thread on here. Far far more reliable than the steel pawl springs. I was replacing the steel springs every 3 months or so and getting sick of replacing them. never had to change the zip ties, just not as loud as the steel springs.
