Got out today for a rip round on the Eebs.
Not ridden it in ages so dragged it out for a ride at The Golfie.
Bit snowy up top and a bit sharty on some of the lower trails.
Lovely day for it though with the sun out.

Was in Wiltshire for work, this morning I managed an outstanding morning of riding, doing the STW classic ride (Salisbury plain). Way too much tarmac, but loved being out there in the wilderness, apart from the monster headwind at times!

Another rip round at GT today as Mrsstu is still doing the FNY course.
Didn't really stop to get any pics as it's still a bit moist.
Thunderstruck was like going for a swim in places and Trailfairys seems to suddenly have got a bit rougher and more committing.

Does a Thursday ride count?

Did the Blencathra/Latrig loop out of Keswick.
Not done it in years but so much better on the Ebike.

Had my little trail dog with me too so I’m expecting double the hate with the eeb/dog combo

eeb/dog combo

I can almost feel the rage building in some of the people on here. 🤣

RD.
I think you need a custom hand made pasty with the same external dimensions as the inside of the bag.
Seems a shame to waste all that extra space.

As alluded to in another post, I took advantage of a mild spell to head out last night and complete this months BAM. It was pretty windy when I set off and I'd a notion to head to Utsi's Hut again but my preference is to be outdoors so I'd packed the tent too and I detoured past a wee lochan I'd considered in the past. The spot I found was just perfect. A rise behind me kept the worst of the wind off and I was surrounded by the smell of fresh pine as they are logging not too far away. Once I'd pitched the wind picked up a bit more and I could hear it loud in the trees around me and see them swaying wildly. In the tent though, I was snug and warm, had a beer and then a whisky or two to celebrate my 100th bikepacking might out.

The temperatures dropped overnight as the wind swung around a bit but I didn't need to use the quilt I'd taken as extra. I was very relaxed when I awoke, content to have breakfast and just take in what felt like a Spring morning. I'm definitely ready for Winter to leave us now.

The wider area. Not a summer campsite - the midge would be horrendous.

2/2 for 2022
63rd consecutive month
100th bikepacking night (I'm thinking I might do a wee retrospective post with a bit of my bikepacking history in it)

Quick little casual ride today, but dropped in on a spot in the woods I hadn't been to for ages. Seems there's been a fair bit of spade time put in since I last visited. Time to become a more regular visitor and see if I can still remember how to get my wheels off the ground (only played on the baby stuff today).

@rOcKeTdOg - that's a Tarptent Scarp 1. An older one. I bought it 10 years ago from the STW classifieds. Heavier than my SMD Lunar Solo but it's a very sturdy and cosy tent in any less-than-ideal conditions.

Nipped down to Slough to pick up a used router so had a cheeky paddleboard on the Thames at Hurley, where I used to go kayaking (it was running on 3 gates, didn't go on the weir on the board!)

Friday - skipped up the local hill again.
Busy but not too busy. The tourists were sticking to their path.

@singlespeedstu - I have almost the same photo locations as you from July last year. It looks quite a lot colder and muddier than I remember 🙂

We've had no snow in FoD/Yat this year 🙁 Been really mild and mostly dry. I should have taken some riding pics yesterday of a 50km yomp in the Yat. 90% loam, 10% greasy snot death. I'll take that in Feb.

I remember riding past our fav pub this time last year week after week when it was closed in lockdown. So good to be back 🙂

@scotroutes . Absolutely love your bivvy posts. Totally fill me with joy. Partly recollections of endless childhood trips in the Kilpatrick Hills, and partly knowing that despite whatever corporate office bullshit I'm dealing with down south there I still this beautiful wilderness to look forward to

@kayak123 does Hurley go on a SUP?

I hope all the snow has gone well before July this year.
Though it may still be as muddy.

After 6 1/2 years the seating in the camper needed a bit of TLC. It's been away all week having it done and so no biking yesterday as we had to travel to pick it up. First class job so it should last a bit longer this time.

Today we rode local with Fin. Trails have finally dried out and running well. Just need a bit more trimming and they should be spot on

@kayak123 does Hurley go on a SUP?

Not at this time of year without a drysuit, an instant swim being the inevitable outcome! 😂

I actually went out for a run today as the trails were pretty much snow/ice free and the winds had calmed down a bit. First run for ages so I was happy to cruise round.

Gloriously sunny ride with a view of snowy mountains and blue skies.
Made even better as mrs_oab was on a bike for a proper ride for the first time since November.
I didn't take a pic. Sorry.

Sometimes, riding the wrong bike for the type of riding you;re doing can be fun. Sometimes, it's not... If I'm lucky it will be the kick up the arse I need to turn the pile of parts in the garage into a bike more suitable for local rides.

Fod for the first DH race of the year.

Perfect conditions and a great event, though I struggle with the waiting around between runs, so rode the other trails between. I had just clicked over 3,000 ft of elevation when I dropped in for my 2nd run and improved my time by 1 second to take 7th in Vets, and wasn’t looking forward to the last climb back up to collect my water bottle, so hopped on the uplift for one more run.
