There have been a few threads around car culture on here which I have to admit I've found a bit depressing.
"Cyclist killed in collision with car", the littering thread, and defunding cycling infrastructure. And even that stupid clickbaity thing in the Guardian.
Anyway, one of the things that gives me hope is this podcast:
It's pretty interesting in its own right, but perhaps the best bit is the messages from listeners. Some of these are pretty heartbreaking, like the person who buried his fiancee after a hit-n-run, or the person who has put up ghost bikes for her friends, but knowing I'm not the only person who thinks cars ruin cities is quite encouraging.
Does anyone else listen to this? Is there anything else I should be listening to?
Cheers, I've added that to my podcasts list.
It's a great podcast and inspires me to keep on doing my bit to help bring about change.
I try not to get too emotionally invested in it though because car brain is so deeply embedded in the culture, and the commercial rewards of continuing to sell cars, whether fossil fueled or electric means that those interests are going to continue to determine transport policy in favour of cars and manufacturers and to the detriment of people and the planet.
