Just pondering this, looking for a challenge in 2017! there have been a few new additions since the last discussion.
Too Hard for EWS
No Social
Nae Spleens
are the ones that spring to mind
Cheers for those,
Rode No social a week ago, it's certainly a notch up in difficulty than Boner and Jawbone, must be getting hard wired to this stuff, boner felt steady and was wet!.
PS. want to get back on No social as it wasn't 100% clean, my kung fu was bad that day.
Too hard for the EWS is bloody hard in a different way to Nae Spleens. Both two of the hardest about.
Wolf of Wall Street was horrendous the day I tried it too.
How did Wolf of wall street go, i bottled a corner with a sketchy root...i will be back, bit greasy too.
Anymore, really must do Barts trail, is this a contender, really enjoyed Date night and it was proper minging, greasy but somehow managed to clean it, maybe just the conditions but it felt fairly tough.
No Social's push is worse than its descent 😆 The real bollocks of too hard for ews is the landings if you screw it up, I broke my hand on it last time I did it, just stumbled the front wheel on some of the loose stuff and got caught up in the bike... Brilliant wee section though.
Bart's Trail's nice but not that hard, there's one fairly nadgery switchback near the bottom though and some trickier optional lines. Someone's been doing a lot of work on it lately. Well worth checking out but it's not high on the tweedgnarometer
Yeah the push up is certainly character building pretty much vertical bog in places, my problem on the descent was it was dark, my eyes were watering real bad.
To hard EWS does it have have big drops?
Thinking of coming north of the border in April/May. Are these trails mapped, posted or signed?
fergal - MemberTo hard EWS does it have have big drops?
I think there's a couple of bits that might be best done with a bit of air tbh but it can be ridden all wheels down. It's a brilliant addition to the trailcentre side imo, very different- lots of rock and loose stone. Random bit of exposed morraine I guess.
Ah yeah. My nomination for hardest is Avalanche, because I'm shite at it- I just freak out with all the moving stone and can't hold a line at all.
@jamj, not signposted but pretty easy to navigate- or post on here a couple of weeks before and you'll probably find someone who'll show you around. Obviously it's a hardship for STWers to actually ride bikes
Rode past the top of avalanche the other day peering over the edge as i rode by, looked fine to me 🙂 and thought not today as i'm going further up the hill, like i do evry time i'm there, probably a realy good trail!
So much to ride up there, must also check out Never say never nr rocky, it sounds interesting.
Raelees Revenge is worth a look if at the other end of the valley (Yair).
Obviously it's a hardship for STWers to actually ride bikes
I try to avoid it myself. I'm still practising - hence why I still get out most weeks...
Never ridden that one Fergal; looks interesting. Spanner is a personal fave though lots of folk hate it! I really rate No Social: Just hard all the time rather than one wee really hard bit like Jawbone. Never seen it wet as it faces into the wind and is so steep.
Thats good to know, now normal service has resumed.

Never even heard of that one!
Add in 'Liver Damage' to your list 🙂
Ha ha... yes someone mentioned it t'other day, not really in any rush to find it though, up near Spanner i believe!
Must get up to the boarders next year! How do the trails rate compared to some of say the classic Les Arcs stuff (Double header, Axe Wound etc)???
Nothing like them, totally different sort of trails tbh. There's a few in Les Arcs that are as steep but they still don't really compare imo. Brown Pow and Moist Nun (at least I think it was Moist Nun) are as close as I've seen, but they are both shorter and haven't been ravaged by weather in the way the Golfie ones get
Liver damage isnt finished yet.. Think the builder has been laid up for a couple of months..
whats there is really good though..
Loose Women and Never say never are the latest additions at caberston.. loose women will be good when its run in.. might need some tweaking at the start.. havent ridden NSN but i heard its pretty tight in places, few ninja stumps around as well..
The place is pretty well mapped on the trailforks app. defnitely worth downloading.
p.s. toughest trails are probably Wolf of wall street, Nae Spleens, Waterworld, No social, Too hard for EWS, Prospacker and most of the lower parts at Thornielee 🙂
Nice beta! Yep was going to check out those new trails, didn't get over today, hopefully tomorrow, were you oot today? probably a few trees down i would imagine.
PS Thornielee - what do you reckon the bottom of slabs and tarts or the Glory hole for a tricky finale.
Always prospacker for me. Do not like off cambery droppy corners with big roots across them.
Never had any problems with nae spleens. Tricky-ish rock garden mid way down but there's a left hand line that is doable. Other than that I can't remember much on it that's tricky?
The bottom of the classic always catches me out for some reason. Wet loose rocky section is yuck!
Basically get yourself to Inners, look on Pinkbike Trailforks and try them all!
All running ace today, and first time down Barts - it's just a trail, nothing special compared to the other stuff we have here.
Angry Sheep though is another classic, not hard, just a classic 🙂
Barts wasn't running great a few days ago! a deep sloppy rut in places, certainly nothing special in these conditions,... I've just about ridden everything in the valley now, so always looking for a challenge :-).
