..is that getting back at 2245 isn't very productive at helping you get to sleep at a reasonable hour!
30miles, and I'm buzzing..... I guess the early start tomorrow might be the toughest part of the ride

Ace!
Nightrides rock.
yer doin it rong.
more beer during and at the end of the ride required. Takes the edge off those natural uppers 🙂
Snap,45 miles on a lumpy road ride. Warming down with a bottle of Roija and some Belgian techno to settle myself down.
it's not a night ride unless you go to the pub....
(needs to start night riding again)
I know exactly what you mean, you finish buzzing, there's no way I can sleep now. I embrace it, stay up till 1am watching crap tele or a movie & sometimes a couple of tins of something nice.
We made an executive decision that once in a pub, we'd never leave..... (it was a bit chilly and muddy out, boo hoo....) which would have meant an even later night!!!!
DrP
Did the same last night - home by 10:30. Hot bath to warm the body back up, mug of tea and bed. Fell to sleep almost before my head hit the pillow.
Red wine, cheese and crap telly is the way forward! You could always try the fun-size-mars-bar-in-the-back routine, though this is a high risk strategy 😆
It's strange, last year I would never consider being back after 9. This year sometimes I start out at 9. Nightriding is great tho, I'm a convert for life.
We do a Wednesday night ride usually leave at 8:00 in the pub by 10:30 home at 11:30, quick shower and I usually sleep really well.
Last week some low life cut a mate's bike off his roof rack whilst we were in the pub and I didn't sleep well mainly because I was so angry at the pond scum!
Night rides with a few mates makes the stress of daily life/work disappear so always worth it IMHO!
we play hockey at 9pm at night, find that a hot soak and cider helps, though weirdly whilst I normally sleep to about 5.30ish am (joys of a very rural childhood) I often wake up at about 4.30am after hockey.
We ride from 6.45 to 9ish, an hour in the pub then home by 11ish. I never have a problem getting to sleep but Thursdays at work are hell.
Always have trouble sleeping after nightrides, and that's after 2 rides a week for 2 years. I have a ritual now where i just make myself something to eat and watch tv for a bit. It's worth feeling a bit tired the next day just for the buzz.
You guys who go to the pub must have some understanding landlords. At the moment we finish each ride covered in mud.
My normal routine is:
Riding at 7pm;
Pub by 10pm;
Home by 11 to 11:30; swill down and lube bike; Walk dog;
Bed shortly after midnight
I generally sleep better after riding than I do on non-riding nights.
The answer is Red wine DrP.
I do a night ride every Weds night - start about 7pm, finish riding about 9.30pm, eat / drink at the pub (very understanding pub landlord!) and get home about 10.30ish, hot bath to de-mud, cup of tea and usually in bed by about midnight.
Fabulous - love it 🙂
I know the feeling. A few weeks ago we finished at 10pm. Went to pub. Got home around 11pm. Ate my dinner, with glass of wine and had a choccy afterwards too. Probably a mistake to eat so late! I lay in bed for hours trying to get to sleep before going downstairs and watching a footy recording.
Didnt get to sleep until 5am! had to get up at 6:30....
Had to abandon last night after child#2 took an age to settle and with an early start this morning and a big day ahead I couldn't afford a late night. Will be out tonight though… late start tomorrow 🙂
I shall also be out tonight, will spend all day at work now debating the route choices in my head. Come around 8.30pm and I will be like a coiled spring, *BADDOOINGGG* GOOOO that first mile is always the fastest. 🙂
+1 can't sleep after a night ride, usually up to midnight at least, and have a toddler yelling sometime between 0530 and 0600. I don't schedule anything important for a Thursday.
Landlords are generally OK but we did have a run-in with one a year or two back. He didn't like our grubby bikes propped against his lovely posh pub front wall. Think he thought muddy plebs might scare away the local toffs. 🙄
TBH night riders make up a fair proportion of the mid-week drinkers in our local pubs these days.
Night riding is ace.
Such a departure from, err, day riding.
The difference is amazing, it's like, err, night and day.
Seriously, though, it breathes new life into trails that you have ridden for years - great stuff.
I never struggle to sleep afterwards - doesn't the colder air in your eyes make you feel mega-sleepy when you get back into the warm?
Cannot beat a late night ride.
Get back from work at 11pm.
Stick riding gear on, not forgetting the trusty headlamp.
Plug headphones in, start 'ride' playlist, switch on endomondo. Pop a doobie in pack.
11:30pm, jump on SS Inbred rattle up extremely quite roads, cut into local trail, stop for water and a cheeky toke break.
Bomb down the tunnel like trail, Bonobo drumming on my eardrums.
Massive grin on my face, loving life.
12:30am Get back into house, raid cupboards to fuel munchies, if any in, grab an ale.
PERFECT NIGHT!!!!!!!
Even more incredible in the snow.
Night rides rock , mind you I've only done four ! First one couldn't sleep too much pumped up addrellian (sorry cant spell !) so now I get home chill for a while couple of beers , then make love too my lovely wife ! 15 min s later sleeping like a hog , everyone happy !
agreed! night rides rock, especially in the snow
Our local landlord is fine, mind you a barmaid did go a get a mop and leave it propped up next to us last time we went in after a very wet ride!
Tuesday night has been boys night ride and beer night for the past 10 years and the only night I slep properly!
just in
how do I sleep?
Few beers and a women 😆
