Lovely to be able to wander into town with Mrs Ampthill and see the Tour. We enjoyed getting our heads round the mammoth logistics and seeing some familiar faces on and off bikes. Oh and that wind as they come past

Yesterday’s stage was on my doorstep.

I headed over to see it come through.

The motorcade was quite something to see following the drivers. Good to see several of the cars getting an Italian tune up 😂

Nice.  My eldest had his first solo trip away via London to see the start in Suffolk.

Grandad's encyclopedic knowledge of the back lanes got them to various places on the course during the day including the finish.

I now have a giant Geraint cardboard mask littering the house. 🙄

Hoping to watch them on the double climb of the Tumble on Saturday. Should be able to time it so I can do a nice MTB loop around the Blorenge after the first pass and be back in time to watch the mountain top finish.

Anyone else from STW planning to be up near the Keepers?

OP, were you standing behind Ned and Dani after the race had finished? You look familiar from TV coverage!🤣

Just loving this, I’m no oil painting but i might have win that beauty contest. A detail that you probably missed was an older guy on the far left in a blue jacket beaming at the camera. Sadly his identical twin brother was completely behind Ned, but you do his thumbs up at one point. They live just down the read from us IMG_6166.jpeg

My pictures were taken after the interviewed the stage winner, Matt Brennan.  I think they’ll broadcast that tomorrow as i didn’t see it last night

Stage 3 was on my doorstep as well, so went to have a look.

Amazed at the logistics behind the rolling road block. One of the Police motorbike riders said that there were 35 of them controlling the roads/ race. Only 3 were to the police team and was concerned that the numbers of Police motorbike riders was dropping.

The sound and the speed of the peleton passing through was something else.

I saw it two years ago - was a great sight.

Last year I thought I'd compare my ride time up a local hill to the KOM, and was dismayed to see I was way slower (over 50%!), then I realised that all the top 10 times were within fractions of a second and set on the same day - I realised of course they were from the local TofB stage two years ago! Doh!

This is the first time in years that we haven't been to watch a ToB (this years race has been too far away). There was huge excitement when it's been through our own small town (twice), the tiny lanes had new tarmac, the children made lots of posters, a woman named bunnyhop borrowed chalk from neighbour's child to write on the road.

One of my favourites was when LouLou (Alaphilippe) won 7 years ago. nbt and I rode up to the finish on the steep ascent of Whinlatter forest and got lots of cheers from fans.

The country park finish yesterday was very busy but we reckon The Tumble this afternoon is going to be heaving.

Weather today looks pretty decent, tomorrow (Newport to Cardiff via the scenic Valleys route) there's a threat of heavy rain at times.

But yeah, the crowds so far this week is just a warm up to what it'll be like this weekend. I've driven up Caerphilly Mountain in previous Tours and it's always been rammed, we're basically expecting that plus a bit extra. G is a genuinely hugely popular rider, not just with fans but in the peloton too - lots of riders have been up alongside him, chatting away. The Welsh flags have been out in force throughout the race.

Many of the segments between Ipswich and Stowmarket are owned by ToB riders and unlikely to be overhauled by the local riders. There's ntermediate sprints down Needham Market High Street when they come this way.

Think they may get a bit wet on todays final stage!! Ah well, they had a wonderful day yesterday. Managed to see both passes of the tumble and was on the finish line to see the winners cross the line. Was a fantastic atmosphere up there, especially whenever G came past. Only got video so here are a couple of captures at fairly low res 🙁

Final stage was really good.

Massive crowds basically from Caerphilly all the way into the finish. The roads were locked down from just north of Cardiff so it was a great run in, a wall of noise and flags all the way.

Strange choice by ITV4 to stop live coverage on final stage approx 20Km from finish, after complete stages all week.

Had to switch to itvx app, ordinarily not a big issue, but our home broadband broke yesterday and I had no idea how much of my Three 25GB prepaid data SIM was left on the mobile.

I am probably somewhere behind the young lady's head in photo 2 as I was there with Ridgeback Kids.  Was good to see so many people out on a Thursday afternoon.
