No, they can Foff in my opinion for making velogames stop - would prob have signed up to both if they'd let him carry on as well

Well it's Stage one tomorrow. A few bergs then a flat and fast run in.

Are you doing a daily preview again Lunge?

Apparently he's good to start today. He had a bit of trouble juggling bottles.

This is pretty cool, though

found some spectators to throw the empty one to

I've noticed this happening more often. Someone gets a souvenir, and/or the bottle gets reused rather than just binned in a hedge.

For some reason I find myself with the urge to buy some Wanty. Whatever it is. Can’t think why.

That’s not unexpected, considering Matty VdP rides Canyon already... Crelan could do with a bigger sponsor like Alpecin..

Dear god, but can ITV not do any better than Ned Boulting and the guy with the big hair?
The latter talked about the "epi-tohm" of something (something to do with Hinault) today, and has always been a bit try-hard.
And Boulting is a great co-presenter, but he's not a commentator. Apparently today De Gendt's "primary objective, or at least his first objective" was to win the climbs. He's just lacking in all the essential skills of a good commentator. Without Millar today he's just been a shambles...

Did notice the mispronunciation of "epitome" 😵

On a more local note - why does this thread keep jumping between the bike and chat forums? As when I replied the thread was in the chat forum but a minute later is in the bike forum?

Your error is watching ITV, I just don’t like Millar as he’s too negative.

Eurosport is the way forward, the gentle tones of Carlton and Sean are the sounds of summer to me.

Isn't it Rob Hatch this year ?

In contrast, I really like the ITV crew (although Millar is becoming the weak link there). If I turn on eurposport and hear Carlton K then I'll usually go and find a sporza feed or something else. I'd rather not understand the commentary than listen to him be a real life Alan Partridge.

I’m in the Eurosport camp. Upped their game this year imo.
However ,I have to stay alert whenever Sean kelly comentates, his soothing tones have made me snooze three times this week!

Some of us only have access to ITV, so have to just put up with Ned's hyperbole and Millar's flatness.

Fortunately the racing speaks for itself this year so far.

I’m now getting a suspicion that Alaphilippe is /was looking to get a sneaky few minutes up on GC before the first mountain stages later this week?

The way he attacked yesterday and the day before, when he sensed the peloton was not as alert as it could be. Commentators are saying he’s a one day dude and hasn’t the legs for a GT, however to me he’s looking as strong as any of the other contenders and great to watch. I’m kinda rooting for Thomas/Bernal but would be really happy to see Alaphilippe to stay ahead.

Yep, Alaphilippe definitely has one eye on Paris, and it's great watching him ride!

Is this the best opening to a tour for a while? Certainly since I've been following it I think. I really hope Alaphilippe can carry on with this style of riding and take the yellow into the high mountains. Amazing to see him on the front again shelling all the CG teams with Ineos and the rest of his team yesterday. I strongly suspect he will fade in the coming week, but I would absolutely love to be proved wrong.

I just can't see Alap* doing it day in day out when it gets fully hilly. I'd love to see him carry it and get a top3 in Paris, but it's not likely IMO. I think he'll do well to hold on to a top 6-10 overall

According to last night's episode of GCN the damage caused to Moscon's Pinarello on Saturday wasn't caused by Thomas landing on it,but the commissars car running over it!

Agree with Weeksy re Alaphilippe, has done ok in shorter stage races, on occasion, but had quite a hard classics season this year already.

I like Ned and David. Miss Chris Boardman though, however Kennaugh is doing well.
Ned and Pippa York nearly fell out at lunch time, disagreeing about how exciting this tour has been so far.

So, Dennis climbing off?

One theory I saw was that he wanted to be in the break yesterday, so he could have an excuse other than "my bike is 40s slower than everyone else's over this sort of distance" for not doing well in the ITT, but was called back.

He's also looking at doing the hour record again, and Bahrain Merida aren't exactly being supportive of it, even down to him saying be might have to fund his own bike etc.

Clearly not happy with something!

Clearly not happy with something!

It could be anything from some sort of internal team bust-up to mental health. I think people sometimes forget that riders are human and fallible and emotional and under huge pressure to perform in a very bright spotlight. I'm sure the truth will emerge at some point, but all the speculation doesn't really achieve anything. I think I've yet to hear or read a journalist say that they hope he's okay.

A real shame that he won't be riding in the ITT in his world champion skin-suit.

Sagan really is good value for money (well, in the tdf scale of things).  Liking the book signing on the Tourmalet as well

I would proper love Peter Sagan if it wasn't for the incident with groping the podium girl a few years ago. The statute of limitations on breaking Rule Number One is quite long - no time off for awesome behaviour.
