So like a lot of people I'm riding again after a couple of years off and, having not been able to find a new bike within my budget for love nor money, decided to do a few upgrades to my old bike. Long story short what started as maybe some new tyres and grips ended up as a complete rebuild and now the only original parts left are the seat post clamp and the frame, and even that got a respray and decals. So this is my question to everyone. Is my bike still worth what would be the second hand value of it in its original form or does a complete rebuild make it worth more based on components used? Any opinions?

Guess it depends on the frame and the components - if the frame is something niche or got retro appeal then with the upgraded parts it may be worth more to someone if they're specifically interested. The new parts are probably worth more if sold individually than bundled on the updated frame as you're selling modern in demand (probably) parts - whole i'd say it would just be considered by the frame (eg a 2005 Giant/1998 Specialized) and priced by that.

What's a bike worth?

Nothing if you don't use it.

What's a bike worth?

Priceless if you use it.

Jimfrandisco: That's kind of what I thought. The frame isn't any thing special, just a big box generic, so pretty worthless and the parts are all good but lower end of decent if you know what i mean. I'll probably rack up some more miles and when I do decide to upgrade see if my local charity place could get some value out of it.
