Just the thread! I'd like some for my Croix de Fer, any 700c recommendations?
Not actually my wheels/tyres but it is my bike!
Very marmite - some work, some don't, I'd rather not risk it....
Go on then, which ones don't work?
I think that the ones that work best are the ones where everything else on the bike is a very different colour to the sidewall

Well I'm bored of trying to link to an image on imgr... If anyone can help...
None of them ^ work. Gopping.
I think silver rims and a light coloured bike are the only way you can make them look decent
"....
Ohh, cheers.
Very much appreciated 😀
Yeah, sorry mostly make a bike look like a BSO imho
Strada Biancas are such awesome tyres - to ride as well as look at!
Yep!

Love skinwalls on carbon rims. Got some turbo cottons for my new 404's. Shall pop them on later for a photoshoot 🙂
Never thought I'd say it out loud but they do look good on some bikes.
Go on then, which ones don't work?
The OP's unfortunately; it'd look a lot better with black. They look good on some of the pics above mind.
Pics is it:

Now sadly taken off as they were useless in anything other than dust.
The P20 always looked better on skinwalls. Dart 2.2 SC and Z-Max 2.35 8)

Has anyone got modern skinwalls to run tubeless?
Go on then...

Unfortunately just for show now as the rear one delaminated & I prefer tubeless.
What mudguards on your first pic OP?
Can't seem to open a thread these days without seeing a photo of CFH's Diverge. Is sort of growing on me though, even with the gobbler.
Think the guards are Specialized ones.
Turbo cottons on my 404's... nice.
Dirtyrider, lovely bike there but the valve caps have to go!

🙂
They are indeed the Spesh ones. Am going to fashion a flap for the front one, as it's a little short.
Turbo Cottons are delicious.

They look neat (the mudguards). They'll fit my grade I imagine, I'll look into it.
I was never a fan of gumwalls on alloy rims as they go manky really quick, but they stay cleaner on carbons. These Corsa SCs aren't actually proper gum walls, more like yellow rubber, but here they are anyway. Not obvious in the pic but the colour isn't quite 'right'.
You lot know I'm a huge fan of tan wall tyres, after all I go on about them quite a lot and seem to have bought up the nations stock of Challenges UK delivery for 2016 😳
Problem with them is they go manky quickly if you don't look after them. I've found the best way of keeping them clean for longer is to do one of two things before use, from new.
Either:
1) use a tent waterproof sealant. I use fibresil, which came recommended by a Belgian, can't say fairer than that. He's a CXer and finds its the best stuff for prolonging the tan. So I've tried it over the years, it's as good as anything out there but I do jet wash my bike and this penetrates the tyre wall, taking with it mud and dissipating the fibresil. So I get about 6mths out of a set of grifos and by the end of their use they're manky.
2) light tan wax shoe polish. Another tip from a Belgian CXer nutcase, I've tried this too, on a pair of Almanzos, these have yet to get muddy (think hard pack, high rolling dusty trail tyres) also on a couple of pairs of Limus. It's worked better than expected on a few tyre sets, worse on one set (probs because that set were just manky to start with)
It's harder to apply, takes more time than the fibresil, but on par with longevity.
I can't choose between which is best, so I take my fancy once a new set arrives and just do it out of course now. You'll never ever get away without tan walls going manky if you ride off-road and jet wash like I do, I've come to expect that less than perfect look and traded it for a well used look (which is better because I've used the bike)
If ever anyone has better tips than me, post them here and I'll try them out.
xcstu I very much like that Ritchey! Apart from the length of the stem - are they still using old skool geometry that 'needs' that length of stem?

That Surly is particularly nice!
That Ritchey is absolute porn!
everyone - agreed! Think I might have gone for the grey Archetypes, better match and less shouty decals. I would like that bike.
jakd, it's nice isn't it? He was sending me ebay links to Spesh Rockhoppers, Meridas, and I was struggling to muster much enthusiasm. Then he sent me this, which was a good slice over budget. Turns out it was being sold by the brother of a some time drinking/riding acquaintance, got in touch and job jobbed. There's some all black Rebas in the post from ze germans, and OO OG backswept bars to help his poorly wrists.
gumwalls are one thing but a fixed wheel TT rig oozes class, Umop3. Like.

Having a bit of a technical issue with a picture. Please ignore me.
I saw this Pole Taiga and thought, it looks great. Are there any skinwall fat tyres out there?
That saddle's going to chafe a little. 🙂
my take- you can't put skinwalls on black rims if you're after that retro classy look. Tyres went all-black long before rims did. And Mavic's hard anodised rims of yore don't count, because the ano wore off the brake track.
That saddle's going to chafe a little.
Ahem, yes, not quite finished 🙂

It's not retro or classy, but I actually think skinwalls look really good with deep carbon rims.
I do apologise, I read that as 'STW Skinmag Appreciation Society'. 😳
I'll just move along.
I don't like skinwalls 😐

Skinwall lovers.
I am building a new bike and am looking for some lovely 30 or 32mm ideally skinwall road tyres. no need to be completely slick. I am flexible.
I would rather not be spending £50 and end if I can help it.
Any recommendations?
