If you've never ridden up the Rake then, unless you're an absolute masochist, its horrible. Its got a handrail. What kind of a road has a handrail? A bloody horribly steep one, thats what!

But watching other people ride up it? Well thats great fun! Watching the pain etched on their faces as they get to the true horror of the last 25% gradient, while trying not to be sick. All very entertaining.

Its well worth a trip over if you're in the area. Its all very well run by Lancs Road Club. Theres a big entry this year, and hopefully this decent weather will continue. Course record is a frankly staggering 2 min 14 seconds. You'd struggle to get a car up it in that! 😯

Its traditional to go out for a local ride before-hand, so we can get back and stand outside the pub, covered in mud, making the place look untidy. Uncouth filthy mountain bikers in a sea of lycra and carbon fibre 🙂

Going to bump this one again

I've decided I'm putting this up for grabs. Its a metre wide panoramic print, all framed up. Its the first print of this design. And very nice it looks too.

We'll be selling raffle tickets with the race programmes on Sunday. All the money raised is going to Macmillan Cancer Support. We raised a couple of hundred quid last year. Hopefully we'll do better than that this time.

Might have a ride over for this, always good to watch someone else suffer whilst holding a pint! 😀

Think the brother is going since a mate's racing. Hope it stays dry for it.

Good luck to anyone doing it. I'm doing Catford on Sunday to provide the Southern locals with some 25% amusement. 🙂

Another bump. Come on over tomorrow and say hello. Weather forecast is great. Its a big field this year, with some serious talent. Guaranteed to be some bonkers fast times.

And look what I just got delivered this morning. This stunning David Flitcroft lino cut print of the aforementioned hill. 😀

That's an excellent image/work of art/print* of the ferry, typical bikers waiting, now they have a new system, so there is a ticket machine at each side to keep you busy watching the chaos of cars trying to get on but not always with a ticket, so much for the new efficient ticket system!

The rake looks fun, a bit like Kirkstone/Langdale/Wrynose * with crowds;)

Bugger! Was planning on doing a road ride tomorrow that'll go up the Rake, think I'll re-route.

Do pop by and say hello though

Great day yesterday. It was really well organised by Duncan at Lancs Road Club. The female course record went, and the fastest male was a ridiculous 2 minutes 17.

We were at the top where people are really suffering. Got quite a few good shots, but I think this one sums up perfectly how people were feeling after getting to the top of the Rake....

Oh... and we raised over a hundred quid for Macmillan raffling the print off 🙂
