I have been milling over replacing my Ribble Audax for a while.

To gravel or not to gravel has been the dilemma.

So last night I placed an order for a Sonder Camino AL Rival 1 in a medium mint colour.

Getting the miles in on the 5 as I have been gives me confidence that I can get around the trails and hill of Rossendale with a 1 x

The build time is 6 weeks so something to look forward too in ‘21

I’m a little unsure of the sizing as I’m bang on 5’ 10” and would welcome any comments

Just ordered a Camino last night, went with the grx 1 x option. Can’t wait.

superstu how did you get on with the sizing ?

I can’t wait either to try some of the easier local trails on it

I’m 6’ (give or take a couple mm) and I’ve a large ti Camino. It feels fine on the standard stem, definitely does not feel short.

Couple of things I’ve found:

The flared bars don’t work for me (I used to run 44’s on the road bike, I’ve wide shoulders) and as the hoods are angled in it feels almost like I’m on aerobars... good overall width though. I’ve bought a pair of venturemax 46’s but not fitted them yet. My anticipation is that they will be fine. If you think you might fare similar consider the Spitfire ones instead...

42mm Resolutes don’t fit under SKS mudguards. Apparently 40mm Raddlers do. I can update this once my DT wheelset arrives (I went for the wheel upgrade, and then the ti one, and while there doesn’t seem anything wrong with the FSAs they’re not the lightest...) but had always reckoned on 2 wheelsets.

Sizing for me is quite straightforward so not sure I’m much help OP - 6’3 on an XL.

Meralheart: thanks for the feedback. I am going to contact Alpkit on Monday and chat about the order as I just wanted to get an order in. I’m hoping from that chat it will calm my nerves a little if I can swap out to a large.

superstu: thanks again for the feedback

I've just started my Camino build, Al frame in grey with the full carbon fork from the ti for extra £50. Grx810 double Sti's just being bled, then 30-46 grx double, 11-34 cassette, 105 rear grx front mechs. Coast bars, all post and 650 wheels tubeless with 2.0 racekings. Should finish build tomorrow or if not will be Tuesday Eve, no rush as waiting for a rear flat mount 160 adapter. But hopefully get a couple of decent rides next weekend 😀

I’m beginning to feel very niche and might have to start wearing tweed as well as growing a moustache and waxing lyrical about double shot flat whites.

Monty, I'm riding a mk 1 (Don't know if the geo has changed?) in large with a 50mm stem. I'm 5'10 and find the fit ok. I'm contemplating a slightly longer stem, maybe 70mm. At 6' you'll be either large or xl
Love the bike by the way.

I’m 5’10 and on a medium at present, had since the summer. Just pre ordered a large though now they’re due back in. Medium ok with saddle right back on rails and a 70mm stem.

It’s the toe overlap I find annoying and made me go large. To be fair I’ve got 175mm cranks and mudguards on. Which exacerbates problem. With mudguards off it was only an occasional issue, but now I literally can’t turn unless I stop pedalling and think about foot position. So something to think about if planning mudguards.

Not a huge amount in it though think the difference between M and L is only 20mm on ETTand ST so marginal.

Thanks guys, I have just measured myself and I’m still 5’ 10”

Based on Bri-72 I think I’ll go large

Thanks everyone for your time on this, it’s very much appreciated
