One of my mates took one on Saturday of me with an SLX crank arm attached to my boot. A crank arm I had installed, which had worked its way off its splines altogether. That probably sums it up.

I'd rate myself as "fairly" handy with the spanners...... 😉

maxtorque, I've saw you post that beast in previous threads on here - excellent work, go straight to the top of the class and take a well deserved holiday (ps…you don't fancy doing some remedial work to a 30yr old MK2 Golf do you? ) 😉

From this 2 years ago :

[img] [/img]
Engine and gearbox was removed the following day

After £4k of uprated parts (engine/suspension/braking) thrown at it and extensive chassis welding underneath it turned into this :

[img] [/img]

And this year i have turned it back into this after deciding to replace the entire lower exterior of the car due to rust :

[img] [/img]
Removed the back panel
[img] [/img]
New rear panel fitted
[img] [/img]
Cut out every bit of rust i found which turned into rather more work than i had planned for
[img] [/img]
Inner and outer + lower sills fitted on both sides
[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]
Rear arches to fit either side

[img] [/img]
Lower door skins to fit either side

New front valence to fit along with all new bumpers and plastic trims/window+door seals/decals and of course a full spray job….should be finished in the next two months (hopefully) , sometimes i think i should've just taken the easy option and spent the money on a modern Golf R32, but then that'd be too sensible for me.

Fivespot - that is lovely.

3 Q's.

1. What is it?
2. How much would it cost?
3. Is it/could it be road legal?

🙂

3. Is it/could it be road legal?

1)Its a Triumph Tiger Cub (199cc) in Trials trim.
2)One like this would be anywhere from £2,500 to £4,000
3)Yes it could be made road legal

I restored this in my twenties and enjoyed every second of the process.

[img] [/img]

Bumbly1 from here came over the other day, I knew it would be risky, I put on my Irwin flying jacket and my Spaniel in the wind face and went for a blat.

Risky because I knew after a single spin I'd neeeeeeeed one. Serendipity revealed one the next day as an unfinished project.

Have been running a 26-39-52 (same 26 tooth range) on the tandem for years using a standard bottom pull fd-7703 9-speed triple DA front mech, which works just fine. Had an Ultegra triple before which also worked, but that didn't shift so well between middle and big, whereas the DA was the first triple designed for 39/52 rings. Dates back to when DA 9-speed was still state of the art!

So no need for all that bodging.

Lexspace? I think you'd get the same reaction to the end product as presenting someone with a plate of baked beans, having placed each bean in a spaghetti hoop.

If you have the talent to do that to cars, why an Espace and a Lexus?

Aracer, it shifted, fine, but being lower that your setup, and using 3 wheelsets (11-32 to 11-23 being the two extreme cassettes in the range of 3) the chain was dragging on the cage, on the tighter cassette.
NO way aound that, except to lengthen the cage.
I've got enough to do without inventing work for myself.

Ah fair enough - I can see that you'd get chain drag with an 11-23. Don't use anything that tight on the tandem (or if I do it's for a TT where I won't be using the little ring).

My picture has a similar theme, though clearly not involving milling machines (and the idea was ben's).
