Not had a full sus I've totally gelled with yet but hardtails maybe. I still have the frame from my 2004 marin wildcat trail which will probably get rebuilt at some point if I can find some old style pikes in half decent condiiton. Ahead of its time that bike plus my first proper mountain bike. Plus it has very cool tribal graphics.

All mine leave, but I've had a steel hardtail in one form or another continuously for 19 years.

🙂

The bikes are not for sale. All eleven of them.

I manage to fit eight neatly stacked in a small alcove at the end of my bedroom, two on the landing and the pub bike outside. So space is not an issue.

Individually they're probably worth a few hundred quid, so not really worth selling. And I still enjoy riding them. I just keep amassing them...

My old 2004 Rock lobster 853 re-sprayed my favourite shade of grey. Not that special but rode beautifully. Not worth owt as I dented/bent the chainstay, but may pay to have it fixed sometime.

As with lots of these bikes, it's about the sentimental value more than monetary.

I think I've sold two bikes in my whole life, it's quite hard to sell snapped, cracked, bent or dented frames. Still have my cracked Bullit and snapped RFX frames with a vague idea that I might get them welded up one day..

Joe your not doing my guilt any good when I ended your night ride at the Marin Trail when I forgot to do up the lock-ring on your Royce BB.

Go on show them your Ibis Bow Ti

I'd forgotten that nightmare!! ha. that's just biking life but the BB is still in there and going strong.

I nearly posted up the BowTi but if somebody put a gun to my head they could have it and I'd keep the ti mojo. its been through more adventures with me.

Been in every possible mode from family tractor to skinny tire CX racer.
Photo shows family tractor minus the trailer.
Just makes me smile every time I ride it (not often enough.)

I've got an original Rock Lobster, bought secondhand, resprayed, used loads but currently just a frame and forks hanging up in the loft. With a 1" headset and 26" wheels it'll never sell and maybe one day I'll build it up again..
My RoadRat got recycled and sent to Africa to make way for my Escapade, N+1 didn't quite happen as planned there... 😉

2002 Giant XTC. 5 other bikes have come and gone while owning this one (including the Yeti next to it), but this one is too much fun to get rid of; it just clicks with me.

My Ragley Ti with a 2" curved downtiube and 44mm headtube. The only one in the world, AFAIK.

Does anybody else think those Jones bikes are about as ugly as a bike gets? I can't see myself ever getting rid of my Ti 456. As long as I can get parts for it I'll ride it. I can't afford a shed full of bikes and it's a great do it all bike, I can take it off piste in the Tweed Valley, fly round the local woods and when I get the chance I think it'll be ideal for long days out too.

My 2000 S-works HT will never leave me, it's currently serving duty as a bike for MrsMomo to ride (used twice in the last 2 years) and was loaned to a friend for my stag do last year. I did have it on the turbo in the front room over winter and it has been ridden to work a couple of times - but only when my cotic has been out of action.

It's too small for me, doesn't handle anywhere near as well as my more modern bikes, but i still remember the day I picked the frame up like it was yesterday. It survived 10 years of being my only bike and I'm far too attached to it now!

I would say my Soul, but I haven't clicked with the MK3 I have now as much as the MK2 I had.

Bit of a cliche, but it was a little bit zingier and lively feeling to me with its 27.2mm post and straight steerer. Looked nicer having skinnier tubes too I think.

I'll certainly never sell my 26" hope wheels or 26" straight steerer reba forks.

Or just accept that some people develop an emotional attachment to their bikes and others don't? Besides, you can keep a favourite bike and buy a new one. Standards of N+1ism in here are slipping badly 😉

My belt-drive Kona A:

Would only love it more if I could fit bigger wheels. I know the forks can be adapted, I might need to take a look at the rear triangle and see what can be done.

oh god yes,

but its also one of the best riding mountain bikes I've had in over 25 years, so Im happy with a bike that is function first and form second rather than the latest brightly colored enduro-turd mass made for selling in high volume to dullards 🙂

1998 Orange O2 bought new. It was a toss up between the O2 and a P7. The O2 just felt more lively.

[img] [/img]

My first proper mtb. Light weight responsive alloy frame, v-brakes, front suspension (originally RST elastomer forks not the Fox air pictured).

It was a complete revelation to ride after a rigid pig iron Carrera from Halfords with canti brakes. It still love the way it rides/handles, it's a very 'poppy' bike.

If I could have it with disks (F&R) and a bit more suspension I'd still use it more for 'proper' riding. Have had it with some Fox Talas on and it's ok up to about 100mm then it gets a bit vague.

Currently back on the original RST forks doing family duties with a Weeride seat fitted.

It does ride better with a chain though 😀

My steel Jones, truss 29er version. It's by far the best handling bike I've ridden, only flaw if it's fair to call it a flaw is that there are quicker-feeling road bikes. That's about it, still do road rides on it anyway. It's a keeper. Especially since its so comfy I can see me riding it into old crock-age. Done enough miles on it to be sure.

Who cares when your riding such a great bike, plus you can't see it when your riding it.
Personally I think it's a work of art, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Probably my Roadrat.

Perfect commuter and knock about bike. The more beat up it gets, the better.

Not so much a complete bike, as components come and go, but my beloved 1999 Zaskar LE frameset in Cosmic Sunrise is the one thing I'll never let go.

Even when it was retired as a bike, the frame still made me smile every time I saw it hung in the garage.

Until I sold it... eeediot

My Hammerhead 100X (semi-custom Titus RX100 by Austin bike shop).
Bought new 2002 and ridden as my main bike until 2010. Steep angles (HA 71deg !), narrow rear stays and very limited travel but still very stiff and lovely handling in XC trails.
It is not super rare (about 500 were made) but not many were sold to Europe.

Definitely my Jones.

Idiosyncratic, amazing ride, well thought through in every way.

And to me it's beautiful.

If you have never ridden one, or just don't 'get it', here's a great video explaining the point. It doesn't look that way by accident or just to look different.

My Marin Palisades Trail, about 1992 I think. It was my first decent mountain bike. It acquired V brakes, Rockshox Mags etc but I found the rigid forks and threaded stem from it the other day so I may put it back to standard, not sure about the cantis though..

My Zaskar from about 93, USE seat post, Flite Ti saddle, middleburn cranks, Brahma bars, it's in the garage roof and really have to struggle to see it when I go in there but if it went I'd be gutted, I keep promising myself I'll get on it every time I get a bike out but having just bought my first carbon road bike I can't see this being any time soon.

Probably my original 89 Clockwork had I not sold it. Wish I hadn't.

After that have had plenty I thought I'd keep but they all end up superseded. Modern always gets replaced by a 'better' version, retro sold to chase the dragon. Saying that, the 92 Clockwork I just got will take some topping so that could be a keeper.

For me the one bike I won't sell has an engine in it..

1996 Suzuki TL1000s in red. An original full power "widow maker".

Everything else is always for sale at the right price.. Do love my Mountain mint Orange Four though!
Wish I hadn't sold my Trek Y22 many years ago, some lovely looking old Kona's on this thread.

Have a Cove Stiffee that I have ummed and arred about selling to replace with the next great hardtail, but never found the real desire to do so.
The FS is bound to be superceded by something more advanced.

Just remembered I have a Kona Kilauea from '98, which is probably a long time keeper as I had to think of bikes I have, rather than ones I would sell.

This frame is currently up on the wall of my garage. My first full bouncer with lots of great memories attached.

As someone else said after having 3 bikes stolen in one go, I'm not as sentimental about my bikes as I was. Can't sell my Zesty though, but only because the frame is cracked along one of the welds .

Couldn't even walk away from it when first spied here outside the shop. As you can see, it was locked to a rack so had to buy it! Not selling ever. If ever seen in classifieds someone please remind me with the Bombers if necessary.

My road bike, a Roberts Columbus steel frame with S&S couplings, it was a 40th present from Mrs Kilo, lovely bike. I am strangely attached to my 2011 giant trance, 26er 11/8 straight steerer so pretty out of style but I do like it
