I've used the Bel Air in it's orginal incarnation in the past without too much posterior distress, however this latest version makes me feel as though I'm perched on top of two razor blades, placed either side of one's taint.

Do they soften with perseverence, or should I swap for something a little more Charge spoonish?

i used to be a complete bel air fan boy, wouldn't sit on anything else. and then i tried a spoon because it came on a new bike. complete convert. and spoons are so cheap too.

Me too (I posted about a while back), I hated it and sold it on after a couple of rides after being told it wouldn't wear in. I don't know how SDG managed to get it so wrong from such a strong starting position.I did manage to track down a ti. railed original Bel Air which I love. Silverfish did have a 50% off sale recently but all the ti. railed Bel Airs seem to have sold.

If you're happy with a ti. alloy or cromo. railed saddle the original Bel Airs are still available.

i tried an sdg circuit a mate swapped out off a new bike. it crippled me after a persevered with it for about 2 months. it did get  'bit' better after about a month, but in the end i had to get rid as i was scared it was going to inflict real, permanent damage.

where are there original bel airs please?

I find the 2 to be fine. Prefer the original, but not really a big deal.

I bought a 2nd hand 2.0 off here (I guess the original owner couldn't get on with it) - not comfs! It's on a singlespeed, and I only perch on it when I'm up to spinning speed, so it doesn't really matter, but it's not a patch on the original.

I bought a "2" for my "Adventure Road Bike" (a term I just learned) off the back of the originals being so dam comfy and this version being slightly slimmer.

I'm not sure why it's called a Bel Air 2, bearing zero resemblance in appearance or comfort levels.

But it's not as bad as the circuit, which is just horrific.

I had several original Bel Airs - mainly for the tigerskin cover (remember the ad with a tiger with a saddle-shaped hole in its skin?) and thought they were great. Bought a II for my SS (again because it matched the colour scheme) and it is seriously uncomfortable but since it's an SS it isn't too much of a problem (see Rob's post above). OTOH, my Jeffsy came with a Circuit, which everyone on the YT forums complained like hell about, but I get on with it very well.

I’m so pleased that it isn’t just me!

I may well refit the old Specialized Henge or see what else there is in SDG’s range.

How could they make such a bodge of a rehash?
