Sorry if its been answered but I have been away for a few days. How do I go to the last response in a thread?

Press the sheet/pen icon next to 'Last post' top left of the thread.

Of course it doesn't seem to work for this thread, but it does seem to for others.

Forum not showing recent posts when you click into a thread.

Caching or indexing issue? I dunno what you call it but it's basically unusable now.

Refusing login on mobile as well.

Further to my post ^^ the Topic Overview dropdown does allow you to see the latest posts.

You can read them in a pop-out box, even though they aren't visible on the thread. The problem is that it starts at post #1 of a thread, which is fine for a single page thread but isn't practical for a multi-page Odyssey

Insisting my password is wrong again so I can't log in on the PC... Is this to do with the new forum at all? Will it be fixed when the old one is turned off?

(For others experiencing this, it tends to resolve itself after a few hours)

I also notice there are 2 different login pages at the moment.

/login/ from the profile button and /sign-in/ from the bottom of a thread. Neither work! I assume it's the same thing in the backend. Anyway, glad to see the new one appears to have a redirect to the last viewed page 🙂

What's with the blue font?

Why wont my post show in the thread but is shown in the latest response summary?

Why cant I easily get back to the end of a thread and the unread posts?

Why cant the date of each post for todays date show how many mins and hours ago it was like it used too?

Why is there a dropdown for page selection and why is it not in descending order instead of ascending order for ease of selection?

Monday Update:

Just Anthony and me on duty today. Here's our plan.

Today we will be changing the theme. This would normally be a look and feel adjustment but we think it will affect things in a more fundamental way that helps with performance. Be prepared for it to look different by the end of the day.

The posting delay is our focus. It seems there's a known issue with wpforo (that's the forum software) that involves the sending of emails to users. ifor example when you subscribe to a topic or you choose to be notified when there's a reply to your own topic. It's possible that the delay is down to the forum waiting for all those emails to be sent out by our server before it refreshed the page. We are seeking wpforo support on that but we are also hoping that some changes we make today will, if not solve it, direct us to the solution.

As ever, I'll keep you updated as to how everything goes.

Agreed. And trying to do it while keeping the site (mostly) live & online is admirable. Whenever we do this sort of thing at work to the Production system, it's a weekend of downtime, with a team of 15-odd people involved. Batchjobs suspended, data interfaces disabled, hours of catchup afterwards, manual activities at the production units, and lots of stress, obviously.

Pretty sure that's been answered a few times already.

Anyway, for those preferring the method of "just shut the site down for a week or two until it's working", it may be better if you just take a break and check back here in a week or two? Better for everyone 🙂

Sounds like a number of issues will be resolved as the hamsters work through them. As someone who spent years involved in "systems" I sympathise and dont want to add to your workload so will check back later. Good luck!

The "jump to last post" button at the top of the thread seems to have stopped working over the weekend?  Not workgin for me this morning.  Hope it comes back with the theme update planned for later, as jumping to the last page thens scrolling down the page is a bit of a pain at the moment...

If it's any help I can see & edit posts I've made that aren't showing up in the forums through the Forums section of my profile. They're clearly in the database but not being seen for some hours by the wider forum.

In the overview of the forum I used to automatically see all posts in order of latest post. This no longer happens.
Is there a setting I can't see to have it organised this way again?

Forgive me if already posted about, but in DMs my android keyboard pops up and covers over the field where I am typing. I can't scroll the page up any further to avoid this. This may be because we've exchanged a few messages now as this hasn't been a problem before. Firefox, latest general release android on pixel.

Btw the web page looks significantly better after the rework a few months ago.

There is a drop down box thingy near the top of the page which lets you manually select what order you see your posts in.

For instance I've currently selected sticky posts and only 3 appear. I could also select latest posts and a few others.

Problem is that it defaults to unread posts rather than latest posts or whichever customisation you selected on your previous visit.

It's taken from 10.38am until 15.45 for any new posts to show up on this thread for me - that's the most basic forum functionality that isn't working.

Appreciate it's a big task, but at the moment the forum is completely unusable with posts not showing up.

I have no idea if my posts are there or not, when they'll show up or not, so i'm having to read the TrainerRoad forum for my daily fix instead😉

Colors and stuff can come later, but if posts aren't showing up there's no point.

Visually the sea of sea blue text is very off putting because it increases the difficulty of visually navigating amongst the posts. It was previously easy to day my eyes straight to post titles, straight to dates, straight to usernames. Now not.

I'm rather hoping the colours will go, and sooner rather than later, because it's too low contrast and... well see my last post if it turns up.

Layout was today's job. Which is slightly more than just the layout. It's a different way of organising the forum. The previous allowed a level of threading to happen so you could end up repllying directly to a post - which was not intended. This is a linear theme where new replies all go at the end. It's cleaner in how it looks and also how it works.

Not ruling out design tweaks, but now we aim to get the bug that is preventing the cache from clearing on reply. The length of time it takes to post a repl and the fact some replies aren't appearing immediately are both parts of the same issue. Something is causing the software to wait 1 minute from the reply button push to page refresh, even though the post enters the database within a few seconds.

That's for tomorrow.

Probably get used to it, but on mobile it's very easy to hit the options above ^, font size etc, format, etc. Will there likely be a way to hide? I got very use to having no option before, aha.

Thanks again for all the hard graft !

Font sizing and other things like that are easy to for us to play around with. If you give us a bit of time to fix the bugs stopping things from working properly, we'll come back to UX and make some adjustments for you. Usernames in the likes? Happy to take opinions on that.

For me I don’t see what adding a username to a like adds to things, on a personal level it will make me less likely to give a like, certainly on the more sensitive topics on the chat forum.

The minimal threads display was a bit of a shock but I think I quite like all of this new look. It's feeling slick this evening, the jump direct to last post worked.

Certainly a big improvement in layout. I do miss the overview of threads which included posts from all sections with every sticky post at the top. Unless I'm missing something they all are on separate pages now.

There is a new theme coming Monday morning that might help, but at the moment there are two slightly faster ways.  The first is that just underneath where it says 'bike forum' at the top of each thread is bit of text that says ' last post' and although it doesn't look clickable it actually is.  If you click on it it will often but not always juli you too the last page and last post.  However this isn't completely reliable for some reason

The alternative is on the right hand side at the top of each thread it says 'page X of Y'. If you click on the number X (e.g. 1) then you get a drop down where you can quickly scroll to the last page rather than clicking through 1 page at a time

Satan can't afford the bung to the IOC fortunately

Cheers for that, I might have to take a screenshot for future reference; until I get used to it! 😁

Right, been using the forum for an hour or so, and I must admit it’s pretty much like using the old forum, quoting and adding photos are working fine, the white arrow pointing to the most recent post, I can’t really think of anything else at the moment that’s an issue.

Just noticed that a strike-through ’button’ has been added! Not something I use all the time, but it’s a handy tool when quoting. Thanks for that!

👍

so I’m very much in favour of keeping identifiable likes. It potentially removes a lot of clutter if “thanks” posts.  One of the best rules for good behaviour online is to not post anything you’d not say out loud to somebody. There is the odd post on here where someone asks for advice on a certain personal issue where anonymity is appropriate but not so much on anything else.

Layout - I know you’re probably restricted by themes but I don’t need to know which forum a post is from when viewing all. That's clutter.

i seem to have latest posts as default now. That’s good. It’s a shame sticky posts aren’t sticky anymore.

I’m not sure we need this full list of post classifications in the drop down. (Closed posts? Open posts?) but the view that would be most useful: “topics that I have replied to, that have new replies” isn’t there.

The option “Unreplied topics” suggests “replied topics” should also be possible.

a lot better, good work.  just 2 things to sk for me at the moment.

what are the little icons at the very left of the thread titles?  seem to be a drop of water, a black page and a white page.  also a padlock but i guess thats a locked thread.

and also, really good news on the 'go to last post' arrow, but could we also have that 'time since last posted' message back please?  if i see the last post was a few minutes ago then i know i havent seen it so ill go have a look, whereas if it says 4 or 5 hours ago i know ive probably already read it so no need to revisit.

really appreciate the hard work you folks are doing, well done.

New layout seems a vast improvement. Would like a proper “Overview” forum view, but clicking “latest posts” is not far off.

One issue is that I’m seeing an video advert bottom right of screen (paying member);

You get that when you click on forum, I don't ever see myself using the overview which then just lists the subforum types.

I actually liked the last layout better visually, just needed little tweaks

I think the "sub forum" label below the thread title needs to be smaller and not in block, and I don't think each thread needs the 'forum" label. That would just making the thread titles easier to scan IMO.

I am not a dark mode deviant though, maybe it looks different for others.

This.... I wondered why I might want 4 replies emailing to me.... I didn't realise that someone was trying to be "yoof".

And I'll say it again.... there's loads of things that do not work/appear in Opera Mini on mobile.

I thought this had been tested?

I'm sure there's a reason for using wordpress rather than something designed for the job but I don't get it.

I'm still not seeing posts and pictures on my ride thread.  Others are tho and i see some posts others have made.  Mine seem to appear hours later?  Guessing some sort of manual reset?

Its difficult to resist doing multiple posts

It currently takes about 1minute 10 seconds to post. Your post is in the system within 10 seconds but the page takes another minute to refresh. This bug is breaking the forum cache and this is why some posts are not appearing until I manual reset the cache. All completely sub optimal but is the focus of our attention today. We’ll have it fixed soon. Once we get that bug fixed the forum should be fast and fully functional.

The problem I had with posting wasn’t so much the time it took it was that it gave an error message so I submitted multiple times. I knew to expect it to take a while from reading this thread. So I hit the button then did some other stuff. But when I came back to the window it gave me an error about not being able to connect to the server. I refreshed the page and no sign of my message, so I tried again (luckily I’d copied the text before trying to submit it). Same thing. Tried one more time. Still couldn’t see my message. Eventually gave up trying to post but refreshed the page a few times. It was suggesting there was a recent message (from someone else) but I couldn’t see it. Eventually it did show and of course I’d posted three times like an idiot but it was too late to delete any of them by the time I could see them.

Keep up the good work though as does look as though it will be worth it all in the end. 😀

minor point, but we seem to have lost the "overview" of all threads, instead we have to go into one of the forums

And I'll say it again.... there's loads of things that do not work/appear in Opera Mini on mobile.

Let's be honest, opera mini has such a small market share (0.33% in UK) it's not likely to be a priority.

Click on “latest posts” below the forum list and you’ll get both forums combined and in chronological order of last post.

I’d still say it’s worth bring back the previous overview view though as the “latest post” view disregards stickied posts for instance.

I don't know if it's just me, but I started a thread and can't see any of the replies to it - there do seem to be some there - just the original post. I logged out, deleted the STW cookies, logged back in again and it's just the same, using an elderly MacBook and tried with both Chrome and Safari with no difference. I'm guessing it's not a general issue or other posters would have noted?

The number of posts on a thread on the overview/bike/chat page is an important current omission IMO. Gives you an idea before you open a thread if it's a lively debate or one user howling at the moon.

Other than that, quite like it so far...aside from it not actually functionally working currently (huge delay waiting for your contribution to post, big delay in posts going 'live' and being viewable, none functioning like button) - though appreciate it's a work in progress and you'll be painfully aware of these already.

I'm no designer but does there really need so much screen real estate taken up by the word 'FORUM' in the list of threads? Does anyone actually care about which forum a thread comes from? Removing this one thing would make it look much cleaner and easier on the eye.

I've got a pop-up advert playing even though I'm logged in.

The email 4 new replies was me. Hold up my hands. It used to say 'subscribe'. Can do again. here's my thoughts.

The word subscribe has two meanings on Singletrack. I was trying to remove ambiguity. You are not subscribing to singletrack magazine when you click that button. You are saying you want to receive email updates to a topic.

What do you think? am I overthinking it? is there a better phrase we can use?

Reminder. Anthony (and his broken foot) is working on the long delay after posting today.

I want to read a thread that had 7 comments and 5 users. When I click in it I only see 3 comments. I refresh and still only see 3. I delete browser history right back to when the thread was created and still I only see 3.
