I suspect a lot of these issues are simply down to the speed of the site.

Messages: I have a red dot which seems to indicate a new message but it’s referring to one I received years ago,

Same, I have a 'stuck' unread message but it predates the upgrade.

This any use? https://singletrackmag.com/account/

Thanks Dick, that's fixed it, back to white text on dark background. At least its legible again. Little icon on the top right and the 'hamburger' on the top left have both reappeared too. I think I'll now leave well alone for the timebeing.

Just an observation, which may resolve when the migration's complete, but some posts are taking hours to actually show up in their threads (although they usually register in the forum stats. immediately) meaning that the 15 minute Edit window will have expired long before the post actually makes an appearance.

Just logged on today and see the "new" button has appeared on the thread list to take you to the newest unread post, except it takes me to the start of the thread 🙁

Yep, I've noticed that. As soon as you post - or within a few minutes the thread title says "last post by blokeuptheroad 5 minutes ago" or whatever, but it can be at least an hour, sometimes 2 or 3 hours before it actually appears. That obviously makes it impossible to interact meaningfully with others or have any kind of flowing conversation.

For some reason it seems worse on this thread. I posted on the Ukraine thread earlier and it appeared within a few minutes, this counts as fast as at the moment!

I understand why and know it should resolve once everything has migrated etc. but in the interim it does make the forum almost impossible to use. I think I will take a break from it for a day or two to allow things to settle, bed in or get fixed. Good luck Mark, avoid the temptation to tinker for the rest of the weekend, but unleash the hamsters of war on Monday!

Probably been asked, but struggling to see. How does one get automatically to the most recent page of a given thread? Cheers and great work on the forum.

Also, do we need our forum age? 😁

A forum I use that has a clear and easily read layout is pink fish media (audio stuff), I browse it in dark mode on my iPad and the text and screen layout along with colour is perfect.

The current layout on the STW forum just looks a complete mess but I’m sure this is a long work in progress for yourselves.

Hmmm. I'm sure this will have been posted about, but pretty hard to tell as I can't read half of all posts. Almost white on white seems a strange decision.

The forum is pretty much unusable like this.

Someone will no doubt reply saying if I refer to answer X on page Y the fix is simple & obvious, but I don't really feel inclined to trawl through all the pages searching for an answer that might be unreadable.

EDIT - farted around in my account and clicked a dark mode setting. I can now read all posts now.

Maybe bindun, but I struggle with long sentences.

In Classifieds, read a particular Advert/post, then hit the “Retun to Adverts” button, it goes Oopsid/madHannah

Keep going gang, we appreciate it!

Some comments

  1. Search function is so much better than before. I found what I wanted on 2 searches at the 1st attempt each time.  Hopefully it speeds up !
  2. Its a bit messy trying to get to the last message posted pon a thread. Not sure what is being done about this nor why it appears that some users have a quick method.
  3. Lots of empty space, which I am sure you've said will be sorted.
  4. Legibility for me is good both when logged in on a cheap Android (software issue 14) and not logged in a 7yr old iPad. A hangover from the previous STW forum 😀

Good stuff Mark and team and keep truckin, it'll be worth it 💪

Oh it seems I can, but I get a 404 when logging in, despite it allowing me to login...

And I get a random "P" at the bottom of my text box.

And the forum seems to default to the first page, which is stupid, as I then have to select a drop down list of pages to get to the lasted reply.

Appreciate the work you have put in to the project.

I would also say a lot of wasted space in the header part of each post that consumes nearly as much as the text of each post. Could some of this could be put on to the same lune:

Thumbs up

  1. User Name

Posting time

Joined date

Space

Action buttons

Actually post text.....

Space

Quote button.

Update to my post 3 or 4 above.

Even though the forum said I was the last person to update pretty well straight after posting, the post didn't appear for 20 or more minutes. Went to bed and the post is there this morning, when it appeared in the intervening 8 hours, I do not know 🤷‍♂️

Not sure if it been said but reply box is tiny and doesn't dynamically resize on Android Ooera.
The quote function works well but seems to put the quote right below the original which makes for odd out of sync discussions.
The quote also puts a lot of functional text in the box which combined with the small window makes replying more difficult that it could be.

Took 5-10 minutes this morning for the post 2 above to appear this morning.

Getting uses to having to go into a thread ad then in to page numbers to get to the last thread. Hopefully this aspect will be improved in time.

On the Overview page, I think the huge blue lettering is childish and wastes masses of space. Similar issue with usernames in the threads. Other may disagree.

Keep truckin guys 👍

Good work all, appreciate it cannot be easy.

For me, my 'successfully posted' post obviously didn't post: It's probably been asked, but is there a way to easily navigate to the most recent page? or do we need to toggle through page number dropdown menu?

Also, can we remove forum member age?

Cheers!

Like the general look though have a few issues:

1) not going to latest post always to first page. Bit of a pain having to then scroll the page # box for something like the Ukraine thread with c500 pages. Would be handy if you could just input the page # you want & go direct to the desired page.

2) post headers a bit cluttered.

3) how to get back to overview at the end of a thread?

Firstly, thanks for all the hard work that's gone in.

For me, the biggest issue is that after hitting the 'reply' button, I'm left doubting that it happened - the 'working' wheel appears at the top right for some seconds, but then the thread doesn't update on the screen. So am left in limbo.

There's a load of double posts from others, which I guess may be because of this - they post the same thing a 2nd time as they doubt the 1st one 'sent'.

Easy to go from the first page of thread to page further on just the rectangular box press once then press again to the page you want

The header "tabs" thing (Overview - Bike - Chat - Members - My Profile) looks the same even when logged out, in which case the "my profile" link just goes to the home page. Pretty sure that's a recent breaking change, didn't it say "login" there just the other day?

Also, the "Members" link shows a list of all members ( https://singletrackmag.com/participants/) and does not go to the members forum as expected. Same behaviour whether logged in or not.

What does this email button do? I'm scared to click it 😛

Replying can be slow, it looks like it’s failed as it’s timed out or freezes. Your replay may then not an appear for several minutes. The database transfer is still churning away as well as another issue that was identified. It should improve when the database settles and they iron out the bugs. Cheers for the feedback and patience.

It's a a bit of a fudge, but you can enter the number directly in the address.

Sadly, 6 years of Watches n+1 has gone.

Pure speculation on my part but I'd hazard a guess that it's not visible in the new forum at the moment because of the migration schedule, with them starting migrating threads started in the last 2 years.

It's possible that Google is picking it up on a search because the old forum is still active but can't be accessed. I'm sure it will be visible again at some point, just not yet as it's not migrated across yet.

fine with just a few pages, but when there’s more than 10 you have to scroll.

on the old version all you had to do was click on the icon in the topic list to get to the last page rather than go the first page and have to potentially scroll through a list.

My previous post hasn’t appeared- had the blue wheel for 40 seconds. Not sure if this will appear.

Like any change it’ll take me a bit of time to get used to this. But not being able to jump straight to the last page/reply on a long thread is a big oversight, makes keeping up with various threads a pain having to always go to the first page and then navigate from there. Completely counter to common sense usability.

How do you jump to the last/most recent page in a thread, without having to hit ‘next’, wait for ten minutes for the next page to load, then rinse and repeat? Honestly, life is too short when the thread is five pages long, if it’s 20 or 30, or more, Satan will be hosting the Winter Olympics before anyone gets to the most recent posts!
This thread is 10 pages long, I’ll find a spare half hour tomorrow to page through to see if there’s a better, quicker way.

There is a new theme coming Monday morning that might help, but at the moment there are two slightly faster ways.  The first is that just underneath where it says 'bike forum' at the top of each thread is bit of text that says ' last post' and although it doesn't look clickable it actually is.  If you click on it it will often but not always juli you too the last page and last post.  However this isn't completely reliable for some reason

The alternative is on the right hand side at the top of each thread it says 'page X of Y'. If you click on the number X (e.g. 1) then you get a drop down where you can quickly scroll to the last page rather than clicking through 1 page at a time

Satan can't afford the bung to the IOC fortunately

A number of the forum features do not work in Opera mobile.

Initial findings are:
No formatting buttons for post replies
Only a very small text box for entering replies
Does not automatically go to the last post read.

Was this tested on anything other than chrome and safari?

Sonos springs to mind.

Hoping the following will disappear when the "old" website is switched off (technical term, clearly)

The new forum has several of the same problems as the old:

indexing is a mile out. This may be linked to the huge amounts of time some threads take to update with new posts (you can see that the post exists, but you can't see the post)

indexing is different logged out to logged in. A whole new world of posts appears

Occasional "password is incorrect" dialogue, e.g. pm Sunday

There's a last post link at the top of the thread that 'should' take you to the last post (auto-scroll the the next post of a thread you need to read also works). However, there's currently a problem.

Posts are registering as having been posted, but are getting stuck in the cache for hours. Consequently the forum tries to jump to the last post but fails to find it.

For example, as I type the last post of this thread is attributed to richmars but the last post actually appearing in the thread is welshfarmer's. When I post this, this will be the last post and will register as such, but may not show up in the thread for hours. By the time it shows there'll probably be another hidden last post. If a thread hasn't been posted to for a while and the attributed last post is also displayed in the thread, the Last Post link will work.

It'll presumably all get sorted out at some point, but in the meantime it's a real pain.
