Edge/Window 11....DARK. Why? I give up, is nothing ever stable here?
I'm going dark/light/dark!!! what's happening?
Ok, it's settled to every page loading light, then part way through the load, changes to dark.
Yep, also now getting the enforced dark mode on android phone and chromebook. It occasionally flicks back to light mode briefly on page refreshes before defaulting back to dark. I know some people like dark mode, but I really don't. I find it causes eye strain and makes the site difficult to read. It's annoying enough to prevent me from using the site until it's fixed I'm afraid.
Mine has gone dark too on Android.
It's still generally slow to load.
I seem to get logged off every day.
Yeah, I don't like the dark mode either - it's like closing your curtains in daylight. A light mode is much more uplifting.
I've been pretty accepting (and also largely unaffected) by lots of the issues others have been complaining about over the weeks and months, so generally don't post up to whine on here - but today, I'm making an exception.
Can we revert to a lighter default display please (or can someone tell me what I can do to change the appearance for my viewing)?
Please don't force dark mode on. I hate it when google maps goes dark, let alone the forum. At least maps gives you the choice! Whe
re is the setting to turn it off?
I can’t see shit!!
Turn the lights back on!
Ruddy hate dark mode.
Well, it's no longer flashing, so it's clearly being worked on.
It should follow system them settings. So if you have Windows (etc) in dark/light mode then STW should follow suit.
I thought my glasses needed cleaning.

So it is, I thought I’d just blinked and missed the white theme.

Not on the Chrome OS & browser. My Chromebook is set to "Light" in the browser settings and the forum still defaults to dark.
I just switched Firefox preferences to light mode (android) but it's still dark.
Also, the logo at the top is dark black text on a black background making it almost invisible.
Glad it's not just me.
Flipped onto dark mode just on this site on both my phone and laptop. All my other Chrome tabs are as normal.
Me too - Android 16 on a Pixel 6 pro, if it helps
aaargh i cant stand dark mode, i get bad ghosting in my eyes when i look at pages this way. how can i switch it back to black on white?
please??
thanks
I also had the same problem but it's now fixed itself.

it does seem to have done yes 🙂
Phew, that's betterer
Yay, we're back!
Good work STW IT / hamsters! 🙂
Thanks for being responsive and fixing the dark mode thingy so promptly. Much appreciated.
Dunno if this has been commented on so far. It has been doing it for a while.
In Classifieds on a PC. Right click to "Open link in new window" and it opens the link in the originating window as well as opening a new window with the link.
It works as expected in Forum, leaving the originating window alone.
"Open in new tab" works fine, if that's any use to you? (I don't see why you'd want a new window rather than a new tab anyway.)

I'm experiencing it just off a right hand click on various parts of a classified line, particularly on the thumbnail image. Menu pops up, advert opens. Doesn't happen anywhere else on STW or any other site so not a mouse issue.

Classic STW ending. 🙄

Ah, I see what you mean. Ctrl-click is similarly affected, middle-click works as expected (on the link text at least).
I'm guessing it's a style sheet issue. The link appends [class="wpa-result-link atw-inline-block atw-no-underline"] one of which I assume is causing the behaviour you're seeing. I can't (or at least, shouldn't) see what's inside that sheet. One for Tech in any case.
Classic STW ending.
IME, "open in new window" has caused problems for me. I've got a hundred tabs open, accidentally open one in a new window, then close the browser maybe for a reboot or something and when it comes back it helpfully restores the browser window with the solitary tab rather than the primary one with all the others. This is why I very rarely (intentionally) use Open In New Window. If I do want a new window then I'll generally use a different browser entirely, maybe because I want to use different site login credentials / not be logged in.
A browser I was using the other day (possibly Brave?) gave me the option of which windows to reopen so hopefully this issue is gone/going away.
I was looking for an old thread (a rather sickening one about online animal torture networks as the BBC have just released a report on a kitten torturing network).
I couldn't find the thread but found a link to it in another form thread, clicking on it yielded a 404 error (not found) so it looks like the forum import could still be incomplete.
The link's in here.
Perhaps it's been removed because of content? Maybe because of the new online age check regulations??
I'm just guessing.
Perhaps it's been removed because of content?
Yup, I have a vague recollection that was the reason.
Fair enough, although the above thread with the link in also links to the original BBC article/video.
I had to turn the BBC News off yesterday when they did the kitten piece, so I'll leave this well alone now.
Are the classifieds working- if I try to create a new ad I'm told I'm not logged in, but if I go to manage my ads, I can see previous ads I've posted.

Win 11 + Edge. Forum seems slower than ever.
EDIT: easily 10 seconds to post that ^

I sent an email message to STW tech about this a while back, no reply yet.
Another.
When viewing photo in the classifieds, adverts pop up at the bottom of the page, sometimes covering the left/right arrows to scroll through the pictures (depending on the advert whose banners are different sizes - eg theres one now at the bottom of this page for "Pulse Digital Marketing" which is nearly the entire width of the white central column of the page (which still gets encroached by adverts on the left and right even on a large screen - advert now changed to the Royal Ballet which has a much narrower banner).
Is this forum getting faster and faster or are my reactions getting slower and slower?
Taking 2 seconds to load a page instead of 4 now. Is some shizzle going on in the engine room? If so it seems to be helping.
Just had another fake "you're a google winner" webpage hijack of the "chat" forum.

Is it just me or are replies disappearing off into the ether?
It's just you 😉

The new "ignore" feature is working then
😜
are replies disappearing off into the ether?
I suspect the delay between posting and the entry being visible has increased again, may be a database or cache configuration type issue. You'll probably see the 'missing' entry in the overview. 1.5 developers plus a tinker etc
I must be missing something (and have asked a few times on this thread with no reply)..
Is there a way of being notified via an icon of updates to a thread without needing to either a)comment and subscribe or b) sign up for email updates?
Use to be able to do this under old forum and is handy when I have nothing helpful to contribute (often!) but just want to see when I log on if others have replied.

Its just so ****in slow to post/read/open threads that i often can’t be arsed, perhaps irs the same for others
If you view an ad in the classifieds, the 'classifieds' link in the breadcrumb takes you to /adverts/ which is an odd 'tile view' of the ads and I don't think intentional.
Click on the GT Timberline photo in this post https://singletrackmag.com/forum/postid/13619116/ - see the Marin Bear Valley from halfway up the page.
Posting delay is back with a vengeance. I posted on a thread yesterday and whilst the thread summary showed me as the last poster, the post itself didn't appear for about 15 minutes. This is a real pain for me, as I often post in a hurry knowing it will be full of typos, then go back and edit them. When your post doesn't even appear until after the edit window has closed, your illiterate ramblings are set in stone for eternity!
This is the only forum I am actually paying for and yet it is by far the worst performing. Whilst not IT bod, I really can not understand why it continues to be so slow - doesn’t matter if I am on my MacBook or on my iPad? No other forums seem to have this issue, despite in general having much more traffic. I really hope it gets fixed soon.
The reason for the slowdown as I understand it is that the forum integrates with a huge database of previous replies and the rest of the website and they have limited IT support

I’ll try and create a new account using a different email address to see if it’s any quicker as I more than often can’t be arsed to comment/reply due to the time it takes
Heres a fun one.... If i type somethingion*, and hit reply it replaces with somethingion**. If i pop back into edit it still says somethingion*
I thought i was losing my mind over the last few months with even worse typos than normal. but it turns out stw might have been gaslighting the shit out of me by replacing words i typed.
*S u m m a t i o n
**Somethingion
So there's something up? Must be the Yorkshire spell checker they have installed.
Subtraction
Edit: disappoint
S u m m a t (without the spaces) gets replaced by something. How very proper, I wonder why someone went to the trouble of doing that?
Like I wrote above, it's the Yorkshire spellchecker they've installed.

I swear that the 'message' envelope re-appeared in the Classifieds at some point. Either was it's a bit of a mission to message someone in the classifieds now.
Also, is anyone reading this and fixing *anything*? On record here as someone who pays for the forum mostly and expects better.
Replies disappearing. Very annoying.
Would getting rid of unnecessary stuff like member post count and online status help performance?
>>>>>>>
Has the sidebar disappeared for members?
Forum feels very clean without it! 🙂
Yes,👆🏻 I second that please. Bit of a pita now they're gone.
Thirded. Pain in the ass without them.
There also seems to be a new issue where both the latest post list and forum threads open at the post you'd expect and shortly afterwards scroll to the bottom of the page (Signed in on Firefox, Win11; Does *not* do it on Chrome not signed in).
Edit to add: Seems to be related to being signed in (perhaps just my account?) - logging out on Firefox stops it happening.
Can the swear filter be sorted please!?
When you can type...
bastard
but not type...
Derwen****er
...something is rather amiss!
Why? The word bastard can legitimately be used without being an insult.

Yep. A pain in the arse, and we're back to the "do the developers ever try using the forum" discussion.
Maybe they need to see the larger, more pro version

Forum is getting slower too
...something is rather amiss!
sorry by that's absolute [redacted] 🤣
edit: felt too naughty writing that!
So...damn...slow....
Forum has been logging me out regularly for at least the last ~4 days, I think each time I close Chrome, certainly each day I have to log back in if I want to post from my pc.
Not affecting my main mobile, also on Chrome.
How does one actually message a fellow forum user?
I'd naively assume that I'd go to their profile and there'd be a link or, failing that, go to messages and type their username. Unfortunately neither option appears to be possible, what witchcraft am I missing now?
Is it a paid feature?

So important I apparently asked it twice... 🙄
yes that's how you do it. I just sent you a message. link on your profile page
