The subscription page seems to be broken. I've tried multiple times to subscribe but it's refusing to take the payment.

I've dropped you an email to help you out!

Replies not appearing are back for me. Thread info says I replied 8 mins ago, but it is not visible. Logging out/in does not make it appear.

The Google Widevine authorisation request that pops up all the is putting me in a mood that isn't compatible with making positive posts on STW thread. It's the only site I use that I have to repeatedly click "bloquer" on Google widevine. Please make it go away because I'm not going to accept. 🙂

I had to google that to work out what it is. It would appear it's nothing to do with us.

@

Widevine is Google's digital rights management (DRM) system used to protect premium video content on various platformsIt's a crucial component for streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video, ensuring that only authorized users can access and view copyrighted material. Widevine is embedded in web browsers, operating systems like Android, and various devices, including smart TVs and streaming boxes.

Key aspects of Widevine:
    • Content Protection:
Widevine encrypts video and audio streams, preventing unauthorized copying and distribution.

  • Platform Compatibility:
It's designed to work across a wide range of platforms, including web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge), Android devices, and various streaming devices.

  • Streaming Services:
Major streaming services rely on Widevine to protect their content, including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+.

  • Security Levels:
Widevine has different security levels (L1, L2, L3), impacting the quality of content that can be streamed.

  • Licensing:
Widevine is available for use by content providers and device manufacturers under a licensing agreement with Google.

Photo uploader not working for me yesterday or today. Just sits there spinning - tried with a random much smaller file than the one I was trying to upload too.

Tried on WiFi, 5g, phone and laptop

I imagine it’s video ads triggering this.

Thanks for looking into the Widevine issue, Mark. From your explanation I worked out it was triggered by a user embedded link in the Salt Way thread which was the thread I was following that day between gardening sprees. 🙂 Here:

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/off-topic/the-salt-path-with-a-whiff-of-fish/paged/3/#post-13604935

Now I know what it is I've happily clicked to accept and the pop up has gone away. I realise it came from my publicity unfriendly operating system not you.

So again thank you for your help and apologies for bothering you with something that is not STW's fault.

Are the tech team cocking a deaf un to this issue?

People mentioning it in multiple threads and this one for a few days now and no response

But then it is the weekend and I get they may be riding bikes...

If the weather could make it's mind up, I might do the same

Just my 2p worth.   Like others I am finding the forum ridiculous slow compared to other forums (free which much more traffic) I frequent.  It doesn't matter if I am on iPad or a M4 Mac with gigabit internet.  It is just slooooooow to a level where I rarely bother now and it certainly makes me question whether I should be a paying subscriber.

Can we please priorities this.

No, they’ll be on their day off.

Easier to report a post with issues or email tech rather than hope they randomly stumble across a post.

Some threads are just becoming a jumbled mess on my iPhone. The weeksy one for example no longer shows the last replies as they’re hidden under a load of singletrack article adverts and proper paid for external ads. The last response o can see starts “blimey” but half of that is cut off. I’d post a screenshot but…

As you’re a free member you can’t upload to here anyway. You could use another image hosting site though, I can then report the issue. Ta.

Image upload is still borked, it would seem 🙁

Worse, it's uploading the images, so using server resources and bandwidth, but then not letting you select them

Sorry about the image issue. It's on the liost and we'll get to it very soon. In the meantime, we are switching on a new paywall for members content tomorrow lunchtime. In preparation we've tuned off the old one, which means all our magazine articles are free to read for the next er.. 18 hours.

The auto moderation functions in the forum software are being a bit tetchy at the moment. We are just focussing on the new paywall launch right now but bring our tech attention to this and the image upload problem next.

The image upload issues seem to be a bit context specific- I uploaded a pic in the Triggers broom thread no problem - theres been something I've wanted to upload to Arrrgh my eye thread and haven't been able to for a few days. Is there something going on with thread size or number of images on a thread maybe?

EDIT

Scratch that - there must have just been a momentary un-glitch as can't now post an image to the Triggers Broom thread now either

Pretty sure we know what it is. We've been running a lot of speed optimisations across the site and I think the image upload scripts have got caught in the cross fire.

The subscription page seems to be broken. I've tried multiple times to subscribe but it's refusing to take the payment.

I had that problem the other week as well, but came to the conclusion that I no longer trust the technical competence of the site admins to enter my credit card details to subscribe any more.

@MSP @Mark

Hmm - this just prompted me to check my payment method as I usually delete my card details straight after re-subscribing.

• I can't delete my card details as it says it's tied to an automatic subscription. I can't recall this being the case before and we should be able to delete payment methods whenever we choose.

• So I go to Subscriptions tab to cancel subscription so I can delete card details but nothing happens - you just get the spinning wheel of doom. My sub runs to March next year so not actually canceling!

The awaiting moderation bug has been spotted and being worked on, there also work around too but that involves mod interaction.

a little more information on browser, operating system and device may help. Running slow is a bit brief to try and locate an issue. Particularly because it seems to be a handful of members.

I'm curious as to what 'slow' means to different people, too. For me (iPhone 13, Chrome) it consistently takes 9-10 seconds from hitting a shortcut to the forum (I go via the /community/ URL) to the forum topic list fully loading. I then pick an interesting thread and open it in a separate tab. The thread then opens in around 4 seconds.

I find this quite slow, and mildly tedious, but not enough to care much about. Is this speed similar for others? When others say "really slow", do they mean loads slower than this?

Ok, I assumed it was everyone experiencing this, that it was a known bug because it's been mentioned a lot before and that someone was looking at it although I haven't seen any acknowledgement for a while.

I didn't have an issue on the old forum but on this one the pages take 4 ish seconds to load. This doesn't happen to me on any other websites I visit, only here. Android, Chrome, deleted site data a while ago, no difference. Same slow loading speed whether logged in or not.

I suspect it's more than just a handful of people, it's just most don't flag it, they either put up with it or go elsewhere like I've been doing.

commented quite a few times and. Fully listed my system, still very very slow @ 10sec+ for page loads across all whether that be WiFi or 4g connection

Very similar to the times I'm recording - 10secs to load up the forum list, a further 4-5secs to open a topic in the same (ie, not a new) tab. Samsung A15 running Chrome.

I've not timed it on the laptop while typing this out, but it feels familiar. Just 'laggy' which I appreciate is not a very meaningful description.

FWIW on my Win11/Chrome PC it takes about 6-7 seconds to load the forum from a link and 2 seconds to load a post from the index page.

Mentioned it before but its back and I was wondering whether anyone else had the same problem?

Can be typing a reply to a thread (Windows laptop running Edge) and every now and then it'll shoot to the bottom of the screen as if I'd pressed a keyboard shortcut for page-down (I haven't!). Then you need to scroll up to the Leave A Reply box and carry on with your typing until it happens again.

Weirdly it doesn't happen all the time (hasn't happened yet typing this) but must have happened 5 or 6 times when I created the CyB thread the other night...

Also just for info, this isn't a complaint, I find the current forum speed perfectly acceptable:

Load forum from a browser search: 2secs, load thread from Bike/chat forum: 4 secs on Win11/Brave. Android phone/Brave is similar but a little slower from the browser search.

Its plugged into a monitor and laptop so its not me being clumsy. Just happened again this morning - I think it might be when all the adverts appear and it messes with the page formats. Utter garbage... Currently looking at 4 adverts for Brittany Ferries. The left one is encroaching onto the main page boundary, as is the farthest right one. The second to right one seems to be in the right place and the one at the bottom just seems to be floating around randomly. Then theres another pop up that appears, currently for a film, in the bottom left. I can understand having advertising but it seems that theres been no thought/testing done of what the advertising does to the forum design...

@Mark

I'm still unable to delete a payment method or change subscription settings (eg cancel) so I can delete my payment card.

I had an email last Weds to say it was being looking into, but this is a pretty serious oversight IMO and not one I'm comfortable with.

Can my payment method be manually deleted at your end?

I'm not cancelling, I just don't like my card details being kept on file.

But equally people not being able to change their subscription options can't be good for you.

I believe this is being looked at but to be clear, we do t store anyone’s card or bank details. The service providers that process payments hold those. If your payment is set up as a card payment then it will be Stripe that stores your card details. If you have a direct debit arrangement then it will be Go Cardless that hold your bank details.

im not passing the buck. We are looking at this but just so you and everyone understands the technical side of things - we ie Gofar Enterprises ltd does not have any access at all to your card details.

my vague recollection (again this is being checked) is that a live card needs to be active on your Stripe account in order for any refunds to be processed. But we are asking looking to Stripe’s terms and conditions in order to clarify exactly what their procedures and policies are.

in short, right now we have no mechanism to instruct Stripe to delete your records from their systems. Stripe are the processor of card transaction. They sit between you and us and they simply pass on your payment to us less their fee.

once I have clarity on how you would go about requesting Stripe delete your card details I’ll update you.

The formatting in copied content occasionally breaks the formatting on STW when pasted

Ironically, this post discussing "moot points" has broken Android formatting on my phone (it's fine on PC), https://singletrackmag.com/forum/off-topic/caught-on-camera-44-in-30-limit/#post-13608833

The post has spread to the right and outside the grey zone and is underneath the "Lauf cycles CEO on..." green popout and visible through the content under "Singletrack Merch 2025", which is presumably a transparent background

Pagination seems to have just changed to 25 posts per page, rather than forty-something I think it was until recently.

However the "Last post" link in the (most recent) topic list looks to still be linking to what would have been the last page with more posts per page (so for this thread, it takes you to page 49 out of 99).

The sensitivity of the touch area between a thread title and the “>>” to jump to the last page of a thread is fine. I’ve tried four times to get to the last page of this thread, and each time it’s taken me to page one, where I’m now typing this in.  It would be helpful for those with fat digits to have a much clearer distinction between opening the thread, and going to the last page of any given thread.

Another note of the dark, light back to dark background during loading, I've tried deleting cookies and logging back in with it still doing it.

The dodgy competition webpage hijackings are back, including the NSFW dancer.

I’ll report that now.

Do you know if the light/dark mode thing has already been reported, is known about and on the fix list, or should I report it to tech@? I certainly don't want to assume that anyone responsible for site development is monitoring the thread that was started to discuss the new forum implementation.

Yeah, probably has been spotted but I doubt it’s a high priority. Unlike some questionable adverts appearing.

I have the annoying light - dark mode issue (Android / Chrome on Pixel) but to flag that loading times have really gone backwards for me in the last couple of days - many seconds 'hang' where previously it seemed fine. Or maybe the light / dark thing has just made it more noticeable.

I'm suddenly being treated to dark mode too (Opera on Windows 10).
