Replies appear as children of the post they are in reply too, e.g. ThePinksters reply to sadexpunk's post. This is itself may not be a problem (keeps stuff together, wonder what happens to a reply to a reply) but it does mean the last post on the page is not the latest post. ThePinkster's reply was made 1 minute after Cougar's post but Cougar's post is the last one on the page.

OK, not sure why that appeared as a reply to sadexpunk. Probably seat/keyboard interface issue....

Another observation (sorry!)... 😬

The opening post of a thread seems to be at the top of every one of the following pages.

Can that be turned off? Some threads are so long and so old the opening post of many long threads no longer has any relevance! 🙂

Yeah, I'm not keen in this - is particularly bad when the OP has loads of images in (eg. hot hatches thread) or the first post is a massive wall of text (eg. that "I should have never gone canal boating" one).

That explains why it was down earlier. The blue is awful on the black background, and the layout looks a mess in my opinion.

Changing to a white background makes it even worse! Christ on a bike it's bad.

I've got the first post of every thread appearing at the top of every page.

Is that a bug or a feature?

Maybe I'm being dim but can't see a link to the latest post in a thread, just the start.

There is a link at the top of each thread where it says 'Last post by...' click on the button I've circled in this screenshot and it will take you to the last post

But you have to open the first page of the thread to see that. It would be better if there was a link to the last post of each thread on the list of threads.

or just make going to the last post be the default, I think once a thread has a couple of pages most people want the last post not the first.

Honest, and professional (as in I do this for a living) feedback…

Way too much white space. I look above this message box, in Safari on an 11in iPad Pro in landscape orientation and I see seven lines of content across two posts. Go look at PistonHeads or even Reddit for much more efficient use of space but still very easy to read.

The site still doesn’t scale properly to the viewport on an iPad. 100% results in an annoying little amount wider so if you’re not careful scrolling it jumps sideways, and 85% is too small to read, although fits perfectly.

Pagination controls are poor. You should always be able to select first page, last page, previous and next, and only then add the ability to jump to any page by entering the page number.

You don’t need the first post appearing on every page. It’s just guff to scroll past before getting to the content you actually want to read, and extra bandwidth consumed downloading it. Given the desperate need for page loading time optimisation need by STW overall, this should definitely go.

Edit: it also took nearly 50 seconds to post the first version of this comment.

Well you can now see the time the post took to appear and I didn't hit reply twice! so that's 8 minutes and when I came back to that tab I had

"Sorry, we are unable to reach the origin server at the moment. Please try again later.

I really like it, but I think it would be better if a) it wasn't quite so startlingly bright compared with the subdued pallet of the rest of the forum, b) clicking it took you to the first New post (rather than the last post) and c) it was an option in settings.

Good to see the investment (time and money) in a new forum, when you didn't need to.

First thoughts relatively positive in a change takes a bit of time to get used to kind of way.

1 - I can't 'like'. I'm logged in and all that and tried it at work on Edge and at home on Chrome but no banana. I see other posts have had like, so it has to be possible....but not by me.

2- The extra step required to get to the last post on a thread has already got old. Like so old it wouldn't take much to make me not bother. It NEEDS to be clickable to directly from the list of threads main menu, otherwise traffic will drift away.

The import of the old forum is heavy on the server resources and we think is causing the slowness as the evening traffic ramps up. But we are going to push on with the import to get it done. We are back to June 2020 now.

I'm not going to post on here anymore, I can tell you're having a big day.

I'm going away for the weekend tomorrow. I'll be back on Monday when everything is perfect and magical.

Why isn't there a "go to last post" button on the main forum?  It's really annoying to have to open a thread, wait for it to load and then clock another button to go to the last post

I had my browser in dark theme and it's not very useable.

Browser in light theme is a lot better

'disable dark mode' in preferences is unchecked for both the above.

Also maipage threads seem to be sorted randomly rather than most recently posted to at the top. That's very annoying.

The members forum link at the top takes you to a list of members, not the actual members forum like it used to.  Intriguingly, member names have colours and numbers assigned to them! Red 2, Green 5, Blue 3, Black etc.

I'm a "Red 2" apparently. All very cryptic!  Any amusing guesses as to what it signifies before Mark gives us the real and undoubtedly mundane reason?

Seems to be some problem with caching somewhere.

What I see as the latest post shown on the front page,. doesn't correlate to what I see on this page.

Eg. Last post to this thread on front page was from chewkw 3 mins ago, but I can't see that post on here on the last page

It's because the page doesn't refresh promptly after hitting Add Reply so people hit the button repeatedly.  It's already posted, you just can't see it.

The old glitch of posting Amazon links for the embedding engine to display it as a broken Kindle link is still present.  Worse, the previous workaround of posting using the Link button is equally affected.  The edit window expired before I could get something sensible out of it.

Backticks no longer work as CODE delimiters.  Is that going to break old posts?

We’ve knocked off for the night.
The levels in the members list is coming at a later date. As you post and receive likes you accumulate a score. That score sets your level. There are ten levels. I was going with trail ratings. So green blue red black. To fill the ten levels I’m thinking of adding diamonds. So the highest level would be double black diamond.

more tomorrow.

I'm also seeing an issue where I’ve posted a reply, the forum knows I’ve replied as it’s says I’m the last one to do so, yet the reply is missing (hot van thread, the one that doesn’t say please delete).

I'm colourblind and struggling with the small red text on black. E.g. the thread title at the top when viewing a thread is almost invisible to me!

Sorry if it's already been mentioned 1000 times above, I haven't read the whole thread, or maybe it's all in red text! 😀

Thanks for all the efforts, new forum looks great. And sorry for my shonky eyes!

Dark mode on (browser/device). Firefox on android 13. "Disable dark mode" in stw settings is unticked.

ok, that makes much more sense, it could do with not standing out so much though, maybe just make the box blue instead of red, it really triggers my dyslexia and makes it really hard to just scan thread titles, I may be in a minority of one with this problem though.
