Horrendous issues with reloading mid writing posts and nothing happening when you hit add reply - perhaps on post where you use the quote button but not 100% of the time! IOS17.x and Chrome and Safari both affected - gut feel chrome worse for the page reload issue.
The ads (which I'm paying not to see 🙄 ) are now trying to sell me a TNT sports subscription...
I'm guessing that the ad thing for members on mobile isn't going to get sorted.

It's not affecting me (Chrome on Android, and Firefox on Windows 11) seems strange to affect some members but not others

Android/Brave/Full Member
By default Brave tends to err on the side of security and privacy, are you sure it's not automatically clearing the login cookies periodically?
Dunno...I've been using Brave for several years and I haven't (knowingly) changed any settings. 🤷
I am now getting the weird sizing / formatting isdues where some thread are either in tiny fonts or you only see 1/3 of the width of them on screen.
Tyoeface is small enough at the best of times
Its really difficult to use the forum now. Its certainly worse for me now than before the revamp
Does seem pointless now commenting on bugs and faults now, no one comes back to update on them.
The less and less time spent on due to issues on here makes me rethink my membership
I access the site on a mobile 95% of the time and the page formatting is awful. It zooms in randomly, and trying to navigate the forums and threads is tedious at best. Going into a thread shows statistics at the top taking up half the screen and the first post is not even visible until you scroll down - twice in my case. Swapping between forums is time consuming as well for no apparent reason. The old way where they were listed at the top/bottom of the page was much better along with a button to go to the top (instead of much scrolling) was very useful. The performance is no better than right before the migration when a rogue plugin was discovered to be causing all the massive slowness and was subsequently disabled.
Some of the formatting is to do with the Reverb advert, you can see the overlay but not do anything about it when using software that's not allowed to be talked about.
The Ukraine thread fills the width of my phone screen (and a bit) even in landscape view. None of the others do this
There's also a stupidly large square with an arrow in that takes up most of the phone portrait view width at the bottom of every thread
I now have tiny unreadable font on every post i have opened

Weird that, I thought everything had gone back to normal the last couple of days but I have just checked the Ukraine thread and that's still buggered for me.
Everything else seems fine though. Android Chrome
I now have tiny unreadable font on every post i have opened
Same here on my phone. It's basically unusable. (Android and Chrome)
Basically, all is well.
Except for the horrible dark background! Or did you choose bedtime/battery saver mode?
Further advert creep now for paid up members, as well as the Saracen banner. Under the guise of "subscriber deals" this time. ☹️
Stick it on the member discounts page if that's what it is. If it's a pop-up on the main screen, it's an advert, plain and simple.
Further to my post above, the coffee pop-up seems to have gone. Thank you.
Dark Mode? I have it on at all times.
And we now have a thumbs down button!
And we now have a thumbs down button!
Tried to resist but failed, sorry
OMG BRO REEL H8 LIKES DUUUUUUUUUDEEEEEEEEE LIT
But I can't hate my own post 😭
Looks like they've enabled dark mode somewhere. This is my equivalent of the same posts in non-dark mode
It’s based on your browser settings I believe.
Thumbs down would open a whole new can of worms.
The layout should be better now on mobile and I've added a quick and dirty shotcuts menu at the top and bottom to replace the hamburger menu.

Observation , not a complaint. Can you place the bottom one right after the last post please?
Can't do that easily right now. It's kind of a..

...thing on the page right now, but there are probably better ways to do it next week.

one thing I had noticed was when using quotes the member's name appears rather than their STW username?
though not in this case!! ^^^
Barefoot pop up now
Click the cross - you won't see it again.
That's a notice for members letting you know that there's a new perk available to you in the members area.
The "who's reading this thread" list seems to have vanished. I always rather liked that.
The Tactical Dryrobe thread has now broken the formatting on my Android/Chrome phone.
Still can’t upload pictures from my iOS photo library. Media is below the 11MB too.
@Mark are you aware of the issue whereby visiting the forum after an indeterminate time, (some?) subscribers are hit with ads until they go into their profile (top right icon) and then back to the forum?
It looks like some sort of caching issue and might actually be some sort of browser thing rather than the forum software (or some interaction of both). FWIW I'm on Chrome/Android and don't have any plugins running. It's not currently a major issue given the workaround.
@scotroutes I only have a hypothesis for you at the moment and I could be wrong. It's hard to know without being able to inspect the browser code on an affected device, but...
If you are logged in as a full member our site will simply not add the ad code to the header of the page. In more detail, when you are logged in as a full member your wordpress user role is set at 'subscriber'. The ad code checks the user role on every page load and if it's 'subscriber' the ad code is not inserted. We can verify that at our end.
However, if your browser doesn't recognise that you are logged in to the site then the ad code will be inserted. It sounds like as soon as you refresh the page your browser is 'remembering' it is logged in and recognising your user role.
That's a theory. As for a solution that could be trickier. It's tough sometimes for us as what we are running is almost an app like website in it's functionality for subscribers. An app would be perfect as that's a closed system and the rules are the same for everyone. A website is trickier as it's not the same for everyone - different devices, different browsers, different browser versions, different OS different settings within the OS. All these things have to be accounted for in order to give an experience that is the same for every user. It's not impossible but it's hard - we keep working on it every day.
I'd love an app version of the site just for subscribers - but that's a fairy tale dream that requires more staff and a lot more money. Just paying the bills right now keeps me awake at night.

I am not aware that I have experienced this issue.

Yeah. I was thinking it might be a browser thing. I'll have a look at any settings I can adjust at my end and let you know if things change.
Is it specific to iOS?

guessing they'll claim this is "members' deal" not an "advert" (which it clearly is 🤔 )

you don't need to guess! You can just read the explanation about 5 posts further up
Thanks for (very quickly)implementing the forum quick links at the top and bottom- very handy, much appreciated. 👍
The members notice has a close button click it and it goes away until I publish another one.

A theory.
Apple save the images ¿Sometimes?all the times¿ In their own proprietary .heic format, there's a chance the forum can't handle it, I've seen file uploaders on websites stump people(my wife) because they only understand .jpg or .PNG
I think I've clocked what might be one of the issues generating the off a cliff reduction in posts and general forum interaction......
With the old forum the little icon that identified the thread was on to multiple pages only showed when the thread was on to multiple pages. There is a similar icon now but it's there all the time. Consciously or subconsciously it used to act as a flag of a active thread with lots of contributions worth clicking on.
Now,.....it's all very passive and beyond some very small font number of posts (which I guess does the same thing if your eyes are good enough to read it) , busy threads just don't standout. Not that there are many busy threads anymore.
Interaction bring more interaction and something needs to happen to generate traffic. I don't know if it's been posted and I've missed it but number of posts a day does seem to have dropped right off. I don't know if it was just a consequence of a very unusable forum towards the end of the old one and the start of the new or it's a larger change in usage (people avoiding political news and debate at one end, falling out of love with social media and maybe caring less about bikes and biking) but it's lost enough of it's buzz that I check in less and less frequently and I can't be alone.
I was notified about replies on a thread I'd subscribed to yesterday but when I went into the thread they weren't there. Only later in the day did they appear. I understand from the updates on here a while ago that this was a known issue - is it still a known issue?
Black/Blue on dark red - come on guys - this is "never do" first day at art school stuff!...
Thanks for changing to white! 👍
Im still getting the formatting issue with some threads replies being much wider than rhe screen and/ or having a tiny font.
Tactical dryrobe thread does this
Why is still taking ages for pages to load or post comments?, the pages can hang for anything between 5 seconds to 20 seconds
It’s only this website btw, using iMac/safari & iPad Pro, iPhone. All up to date software wise
(edit - 8 seconds to post above)

I get that, but if I zoom out it snaps to the correct size.
I've started to see ads at the top and bottom of the forum.
The ads are gett...
Sorry, I had to break off to close one that appeared over the text I was typing.
As I was saying, the ads are getting to the point where the forum is very difficult to use.
And the 'Add Reply' button seems to only come to life at random moments, so I'm left hitting it and hoping it changes colour and starts with the whirring working thing in the top right.
It is no wonder there are so many double posts on here(!)
I don't want to alarm anyone but the sudocreme cat thread is missing all its replies!!! 😮😮😮😮

Lots of older threads are like that & some have gone totally including the very personal one about my wife's funeral 5 1/2 years ago 😪
I've been having the ads/member issue on Chrome on my PC. Clearing the cache seems to have improved it. However, I still have a massive blank space where the ad used to be. Is that what other full members are experiencing as well? I want to know if the issue is with my browser settings or the forum. I'd post a picture, but it's just a big space with "Remove ads" in it.
Edit, maybe I'm not a full member anymore? Have STW towers stopped taking autorenewals?
Edit again. I had to reactivate my membership. The big blank spaces have gone. Yay.
I'm still getting the weird formatting where the text is too wide for the screen. happens on the not a normal flight thread now.
is it connected to the sponsors banner at the top? that's also far too wide for the screen.
Random wide screen is back again here as well.
Having trouble uploading photos direct from my phone now.
Had been working fine up until now.
Just randomly won't upload some photos but will others.
All attempts to post in the same way, all well under the limit size wise.
Any idea why?
Only way I can get the rejected pics to post is to send them to myself on WhatsApp, save them, then up load them instead of the original.
Have we had a response as to why the new forum loads pages as slow as the old forum?

That'll reduce the file size which suggests the problem with your originals is that the files are to big to upload.
I seem to be getting the problem with forum pages resizing on my Chrome/Android phone at the moment, but not on every page.
It appears to be related to the formatting of the Saracen banner - on the pages that fit the phone correctly the banner fits perfectly but on the pages that overflow the banner is too wide.
This is a bit weird as I'd expect the CSS to keep the banner at the same size for all forum pages.

It's rapid for me, like 2 seconds for a page load. Posting takes a little longer. What are you doing differently?
[EDIT] posting this reply took 9 seconds.

That's the thing though they're not.
A couple that wouldn't post were actually smaller than the pics that posted but they were all around 7mb.
Have we mentioned "Your subscription to this topic cold not be confirmed"?
Also, why do we need to have a subscription confirmation email?

I tried loading a few pages with firefox's network analyzer tab open. I get quite a bit more than 2s.
- "Latest": 4.8s for the initial GET mostly loaded by ~5.5s.
- "Skills area local to Shropshire" - 3 posts, takes 1.5s for the initial GET, then mostly finished, but there's a /admin-ajax.php that takes a second to complete.
- Sudocream: 2s for the initial GET and then quite a few quite long fetches around 0.5s each, some in parallel, some not.
- The Pope thread - around 2.81s for the initial GET and then various other requests.
Seems odd that it's always about 2s (or more) regardless of how many posts there are.
I happened to notice something funny with the links in the dropdown menu on the profile button (when logged in), specifically the "profile" and "messages" links.
Usually these point to the correct url, eg:
https://singletrackmag.com/user/ossify/
However, if I'm viewing another profile (to pick a completely random example, this one) then the url will point to that user's profile instead of my own.
This morning a thread I was viewing went very wide with minuscule type.
hmm. Maybe someone posted a very wide image.
I had to zoom in and scroll across every line. Even turning the phone left the font illegible.
iPhone 14 Plus.
I’ll try post pics. I don’t expect to succeed - but I have seen a successful banner so, fingers crossed
Ok pics failing. Hmpf
heres a link, have a look
The top ad banner is massive too

Maybe someone posted a very wide image.
Yup, I am now assuming that might be the problem
Many many years ago the formatting on stw threads used to get distorted due pictures beyond a certain size, I can't remember what exactly happened but it was always obvious which particular picture had caused the problem, the poster was expected to edit their post to correct the problem.

All other forums i use the image is auto-scaled to fit the page correctly no matter how big it is... It just shows as your browser size.
I can't post on the Pope thread, probably a good thing. 🙂

You could sign up for a full account and pay via Papal?
Removed as it wasn't as funny online as it sounded in my head!
