I posted in https://singletrackmag.com/forum/bike-forum/commuter-tyres-hybrid-workhorse-vs-faster-road-style/#post-13545623 ~30mins ago and it appeared as good as instantly.

Some other posts I've done today from over two hours ago are yet to show up.

Bike Radar forum closes its doors on Monday 17th March, the state of this forum currently isn't going to attract many of them. 😉

Different people seeing different posts was mentioned way back. A month on its disappointing that it doesn't seem to have been addressed.

It may also be related to the ongoing posting delay as posts that might take hours to show up for some seemingly show up quickly for others (I've seen folk quoting from posts that I won't see for ages).

Still struggling to use the forum at all on Android (with Chrome) due to frequent freezes.

I'm beginning to wonder if the new forum is being served from some kind of space-time anomaly.

And sadly it appears to suck in whatever resources are thrown at it, with little sign of any improvement.

Bike Radar forum closes its doors on Monday 17th March,

That's weird given how many posters on here seem to be very confident as to how simple it is to spin up a forum in an afternoon, because their 12-year old did it and both users are really happy.

I used to lurk on Bike radar, and then discovered this place. Crikey, BR was like a funeral dirge in comparison with here. A couple of weeks ago, during one of the more frustrating days of this forum, I popped back to BR for a "cycling-forum" hit, and was reminded how quiet and dead it was. Like, two post per day, and some sub-forums with no updates for months.

Had a look at that Cycle UK one too - how many sub-forums?

Shocked The Muppets GIF by ABC Network

So, whilst this place can be a bit glitchy, and some people's patience has been tried to breaking point over the last few weeks, overall, I think it's great.

More seriously,

That should be a wake-up call.  For all the people pissing and moaning, would you prefer it if STW went bang tomorrow?  Bigger giants have fallen.  I miss Woolworth's pick 'n' mix and who saw Debenhams' implosion coming?

If you want this community to survive - and I do, the reason I'm so vocal is I'm fiercely proud of it - then maybe contribute something positive rather than screaming into the void about how shit everything is whilst STW is in the middle of a massive migration.  Constructive criticism and feedback about issues is surely welcome; directionless whining gets right on my tits.  If you think it's crap then sod off to BikeRad-  ah, oh.

If people didn't care Cougar they'd sod-off somewhere else and say nothing.

Most of the comments I see are from people who've been with STW a long time.

...so don't go all Gerald Ratner on us! 🤣

In what way? Most of the above people are trying to post and have paid their subs and donated

What else can we do that's positive then?

My point is, there is a gulf between "this is shit" and "this is shit because of x, y and z and here's how I think it could be improved."  I have reached the end of my patience with the former, go be toxic somewhere else.

IMHO, etc.

What weekys said.

I've paid subs donated, taken part in raffles. what else do you want from us?

If it was an isolated thing fair enough but its daily now, the silence is quite deafening as to a solution/timescale other that push the cache clear button occasionally.  I'm coming here less and less because of these issues. Is that what you want people to shut up and go away?

Will posting that some of my post show up straight away and not mentioning that some of them take ages help the forum work better?

Seems a little off to me that Mark started this thread to keep folks informed and for us all to post up what was happening at our end just to have someone have a go for doing exactly that.

My solution has been to just not bother coming on here even half as much as normal.

I'm a bit conflicted.

I don't think the moaning helps, but at the same time, would be good for mark to give an update on the posting delays, which are clearly a big problem - even if its just to say we're looking into it.

Maybe a daily update from mark even if its just to say "no progress so far" would be appreciated.

A bit like Jason Leitch 5 years ago would come on to tell us how Scotland was doing during COVID

We did come through it a wee bit better than when we are at the world cup where we never survive the first round

Were still here , sad that quite a few didn't survive but here's hoping we're still posting and arguing in 5 years time

For the avoidance of doubt, I do not represent the site.  I'm just a regular user like everyone else.  My opinion is of no greater or lesser import than anyone else's.

Thanks for carrying the argument to PMs and then blocking me when I replied though, that was a classy move. 🤷‍♂️

i didn't say I wouldn't respond.  I said:

"In any case. I'm sincerely sorry if I offended you somehow. But I have no desire to have a spat out-of-band via PM. If you want to have an argument, do it on the thread in public. I wish you no ill will but I'm not responding to this conversation any further here."

You chose to pick a fight in secret in the first place, then last-worded and blocked me.  Keep it honest.

The posts not appearing will be the death of the forum if it doesn’t get sorted, which would be a real shame.

In the mean time is there anything we can do to be able to see them? Are the same ones missing for everyone or does it vary for users?

I’m thinking things like clearing cache, different browser etc?

Without wishing to underestimate how tricky this all is I do wonder if perhaps when the inadvertent discovery that a rogue plugin was causing the performance issues on the old site, it might have been wise to postpone the migration given that the new forum is not really ready. Hindsight and all that I know but some of the issues around formatting etc must have been obvious before go live… Anyway I hope it all gets sorted and thanks for all the effort to manage this as best you can with limited resources. I do not envy you all at all.

In the mean time is there anything we can do to be able to see them? Are the same ones missing for everyone or does it vary for users?

the short answer is yes theres a way.  its a faff tho.  see that 'down' arrow underneath the page number?  if you click it it opens up a list of all the replies.  if you keep clicking to 'load more replies' then theyll all open, including the ones you cant see normally.  thats ok on a relatively small thread, but i had to do this on the 'bassists' thread the other day with more than 700 replies, 5 at a time 😀

Screenshot 2025-03-14 at 06.52.21.png

and yes, it seems to vary, not even by user or thread.  the fact that you can see a few others have posted but you cant see the replies yet means that they can and you cant.  and its not by thread either, at least not for me.  i was happy enough posting and reading replies (to the bassist thread again) up until yesterday when all of a sudden i couldnt see the replies until the next morning.

so...... i cant see a pattern.

the sites definitely a lot better now, we're slowly getting there.

I know that adverts are an important revenue stream but I'm currently getting 3-4 pop ups per page that are covering the main forum section & need closing to see what's going on an to post.

I even have adverts covering other adverts.

With everything else that's going on with the forum it's hardly encouraging folk to stay.

To be fair, the previous forum hadn't been really ready for about 15 years.  At least now the new one might be shortly. 😁

The search is considerably better but still needs tweaking.  Searching on thread title returns the same thread multiple times over presumably hitting each individual page.  I was looking for the "argh, my eye" thread.  A Google search for "my eye" using the site: filter found it immediately.

It's improved quite a bit imo, a lot of things happen much quicker now.

Except for random threads which don't update for several hours. That seems to be a new feature.

I am not sure but I get the impression that which threads don't update depends on the individual.

Just to bang Cougar's drum - any specific examples of what you don't like at the moment? If you can give details the huge tech team can allocate some time to check it out, otherwise nothings going to change.

When I started this weekend's ride picture thread it posted straight away, but only the text posted.

I'm not sure how long it took for the pictures to show up.

I looked  after 15 minutes and they weren't there so went and did a load of other stuff.

When i looked a couple of hours later they had appeared.

Then to my surprise I posted a video that was linked from Flickr and that worked and posted straight away and is still showing this morning.

Search tip.
use advanced search and narrow your search down. It’s much quicker. When you enter a search term in the main box and hit search it searches through everything in the database, which is millions of records. If you were searching for a username for example, using advanced search and specifying usernames your search would involve only 140k records and not millions.

Still works fine on my phone. Samsung Galaxy A54, Android 14.

One of the major challenges for the STW tech team to deal with, is the apparant randomness of the various issues for different users and different threads.

Good luck!
