Used my Trailcross GTX on Friday for the first time. Not particularly impressed.
My feet stayed pretty dry for the first 2 hours or so, then got wet and stayed very wet for the rest of the day. Spent the last 2 hours squelching about in pools of water, whereas everyone else's non gtx feet were just wet, rather than sodden.

Pretty shit design tbh. The gtx liner appears only to go the top of the shoes, not the cuff. So not really waterproof.

Also, the much lauded cuff is a shit design. It needs to go a bit higher and close better. I tried it initially with socks roller down, ie cuff on bare skin, but binned that idea when my calves started bleeding.

If I'd paid 150 for then they would be going straight back. As it is, I might keep then for fairly dry days in winter when occasional splashes could ruin your day. For summer spring & autumn I'll just revert back to approach shoes and let them wet out/ dry out through the day.

PS. Just to be clear, it didn't actually rain a drop on the day I used them. They just got soaked from front wheel spray. Pretty useless.

I'm completely done with FiveTens. Their soles don't last at the best of times but the last three pairs have been particularly dreadful.

Five Tens crappy quality

"Fortunately" I picked up a pair super-cheap a year or so ago which are sat spare and will tide me over (for about 3 months use before they fall to bits going on current progress) but after that it's pastures new.

The Vaude's look the part.

Another option has emerged – Five Ten Freerider Pro MID VCS.

I ordered a pair of each... these and the Trailcross GTX.

My normal Freerider Pro are size 10.

Size 10 in Freerider Pro MID VCS were too small, so swapping to 10.5 to try. Fingers crossed.

Trailcross GTX will never fit me, so they're going back for a refund. The right length, but far too tight across the toes, while also being far too loose around the rest of the foot. Could lift my foot noticeable inside the shoe without lifting the sole of the ground, despite my toes feeling crushed. Very odd shape/fit.

Totally agree. Very strange.
