What is the most boring bit on a mountain bike?
I just can't get excited about seat posts, or bottom brackets.
What's the most boring bit of your bike?
headset spacers.
headset spacers.
you can get carbon ones man
the bolt that connects the seat to the seatpost would be my suggestion
Gear cable end crimps
the bolt that connects the seat to the seatpost would be my suggestion
Also the most exciting bit if it suddenly goes missing 😉
those little metal shrouds you crimp onto the end of your gear cables, they're pretty dull

Bolts don't count! 😉
The rider when they start banging on about how much weight they saved by fitting ti bolts everywhere... Who cares.
All the bits are pretty boring in isolation. It's when you stick em together that they become interesting! 🙂
Inner tubes. That's why I ride without them. 8)
quite an amazing thing the bicycle, lots of simple bits working in harmony to furnish the user with fun and transportation.
so none of it
BLASPHEMY! nothing is boring on a bike.
nothing is boring on a bike.
But some of the riders are.
Just looking at the pictures of my bikes on the computer and I can confirm that no part of any of them is boring.
Scrutinised the brake adaptors, ferrules, spacers, nipples etc but no I find it all amazingly interesting.
Seatposts and BBs are off the scale
headset spacers, cable end crimps, bolts, even the humble aportace spring...all serve a purpose. Valve caps, on the other hand, do not. BURN THEM.
Reflectors that never make it past shop door on new bikes that never knowingly end up on the road
X2 for reflectors. On most serious MTB's they will be taken off and end up in landfill. Also the ones that come on new Shimano SPD's. Doesn't go with the green transport message.
Serial number on the forks.
I have Merlin remove mine before delivery.
Is Merlin your butler?
The little nut which holds the valve stem in place, I thought they were boring when I didn't need them, now I do (ust) they are even worse! 🙁
Nipples
the bearings on a full suss, no bling or excitement to be had..
Just me who actually enjoys crimping cable ends then...
once saw a 6 page seatpost grouptest in mbr.
WOW
Valve caps, on the other hand, do not
They do, I lost all the air in my shock once because it didnt have a valve cap and some gritty mud got in there and somehow opened the valve.
The little nut which holds the valve stem in place
Fantastic when you need to pump up a tube from flat the valve doesnt disappear inside when connecting the pump.
the bearings on a full suss, no bling
Ceramic bearings!

Just screw the valve tight when you've finished with the pump!
those little metal shrouds you crimp onto the end of your gear cables, they're pretty dull
but they come in pretty colours too!
Just screw the valve tight when you've finished with the pump!
Cant really do that with the schrader valves they put on shocks can you.

non-wheel valves. Odd, but good call.
The Rider.

No, me too, because that usually signifies the build is done and bike is ready. 🙂

No, me also
aportace spring
headset spacers.you can get carbon ones man
Even more exciting, the Mt Zoom carbon ones have little cut out sections, so thinner, lighter walls for most of it and three 'fatter' bits to allow them to sit properly 😀
I reckon brakes are boring due to the fact that they make you slow down. 8)
Gotta be the star nut thing in the steerer tube shirley? You don't see it, it just does it's job and I don't think you can get bling-y one's (waits to be corrected) ... but I also like putting crimps on the cables, the last thing I do when I build a bike up and it means it's time to ride it!
the bearings on a full suss, no bling or excitement to be had..
Disagree, I love replacing mine with the best quality bearings I can source then feeling how smooth they are. Usually SKF bearings..
I would have agreed with the star nut but then noticed the quality of the one which came with my Chris King headset, also got the Hope Head doctor which is engineered alloy..
Mud guards are boring if you use them, or I would agree with the cable crimps. Also to consider would be the oil on the chain..
Cable guides. Or stems.
If bolts dont count...
Brake caliper mounts
Inner tubes
Steel springs
Cable ends, and the little bits that go on the end of outers.
All the little seals/o-rings on anything hydraulic
Cant think of any more.
if the cable ends are crimped just once, they are boring.
However, if they are crimped twice, then beauty occurs.
+1 for brake caliper mounts, although Hope ones are nice.
Star nuts are even more pointless because once the stem bolts are done up they don't do anything at all!
relentless fine tuning... yawn
Valve caps, on the other hand, do not. BURN THEM.
Mine have got little valve core-removing forks on top, very interesting.
'until Rachel'?? I have just about got the hang of gnar, huck and 'all mountain' but what does Rachel mean in terms of 'biking'? (dude)
Actually it broke on a completely boring piece of trial. It could've been a lot worse, we were on an uplift dat at Cwmcarn.
I'm not some sort of riding goddess; just bad at spotting something that must have been degrading for some time.
I check all my steerers every few months now...
Rachel
looks like a weird place to crack.
The lump of meat on top it, by the sound of things...
Rachel - my friends 888's snapped in exactly the same place and I had the same stem that had lost about the same amount of the sticker.
I know some people fetishise them, but I reckon headsets are dull, just bang in an s3, nip it up and worry about it in 5 or 6 years when it gets gritty as hell.
Definitely mechs n shifters n cables.....dull as dishwater and I hate spending money on them.
If only I was fit enough, or lived somewhere flat enough, for singlespeeding.
Rear mech Jocky wheels. Get fed up with sram ones locking up after even a little bit of mud
I think seat rails are boring and there's nothing fun about working with them. Brakes are good fun though. I just finished servicing my Hope Mono M4 lever which was very satisfying and easier than I imagined it would be.
Front mechs are indeed boring, so boring that I completely forgot about them. 🙂

pulls up chair...
