After yesterday's storms and Finale Outdoor Regions closure of some of the trails we didn't think we would get much riding in today.

However our guide Mario from Trails Adventure came up with a plan and we did 27 miles and 1100m of descent on dry trails. Great day out in the hills

Early slope off from work again today. Didn't rain as much as expected yesterday, so hoping for dry ish trails.

Weather had other ideas though and had a good 20 mins of heavy rain on the drive over. Was a tad moist, greasy over firm. I am not used to riding slidey stuff!

Nevermind, the sun came out and we still had a good laugh!

Looking and feeling very autumnal all of a sudden. This time last week it felt like we were still clinging on to summer a bit.

Rode our from Pietra Ligure today as our guide Mario wanted to take us on trails that aren't regularly riden in the Verzi/ San Lorenzo region. Was out in the saddle for six hours. Steep rocky technical climbs and some amazing descents.

Is always good to ride new trails. Had a bit of an off on a techy uphill switchback and rolled down onto the trail below. Few cuts and bruises but it's all part of the fun.

Weekly group ride last night and I sneaked in a short pre-ride to catch the sunset first - buried myself on the climb and only just caught the sun dipping below the hills.

2024-09-24 Dumyat McBoab Geometron G1 00001

Despite feeling knackered I still dragged myself out of bed for a pre-work ride - best decision I've made in a while. Clear sky, slight frost, between 2-4degC and I caught the sun rising from a nice vantage point. Return ride alongside the canal was special.

After moving on from Finale this was our first day out in the hills above San Remo. Started with a 11 mile and 1700m climb to get to where we planned to start our descent. Played about on some of the ridge trails to stay high up Then started to follow the different trails down. 20 miles of DHs and 2100m of descent saw us to the sea.

Some awesome trails all to our selves

Some more great trails above San Remo. It's a bit more rustic than Finale but we'll worth the visit. Moving on up into France tomorrow but not decided where to as yet. Was going to be a trip back to Les Orres but it's a bit cold there at the moment.

Out exploring around teeside. I've been meaning to get up here for ages, never managed it for some reason.

Today the forecast was bright sunshine while most of the rest of the country was under cloud so it was too good and opportunity to miss.

Trails were a mixed bag, some really good magical dry loamy carpets covered in orange larch pine needles. Long descents too, some great flowy stuff and also some properly gnar committing steeps.

Also some absolute death, very steep, slippy slidy no-grip-at-all rut tracks. Several times I had both wheels locked accelerating down the rut and had to tripod my way out of it gracelessly then have a little involuntary sit down.

Glad I was on't eeb today as otherwise I'd never have been able to find half the good stuff and would have spent a lot of time being a bit annoyed that several of the descents weren't anywhere near worth the climbing.

I don't think I saw it at it's best at all though. Id like to go back when it's drier and grippier to try some of the harder lines again.

We’ve just had 3 days on Mljet in Croatia. We hired bikes to get around. Unusual for Mrs Ampthill to be on a bike these days. Lovely area to explore and accessing hiking trails and swim spots by bike worked well. Yes i found a WW2 88mm flack canon

Drifts of dry, crackling leaves on this morning's local ride. Great conditions, but it's looking like the trees might be bare before the sun next shows itself. There are blue skies up there somewhere, but not on moorland at 400m. I'll have to get higher tomorrow...

Still in the honeymoon phase with the e-bike, so I’ve been enjoying autumn, wet, muddy biking more than normal. But even so, I’m starting to get a bit fed up with the slippy, muddy trails at the mo:

Skived off work this morning and went out to Stainburn for a few hours. The Aeris AM has just had it's fork and shock serviced, and bearings replaced, and was running sweetly. Also new, a 2.6 Magic Mary (non Radial) ultra soft up front for a bit more confidence/skills compensation for the loamy/rooty steeps and the chunky rocky 'official' trails. Gorgeous golden morning and the trails were mint.

Slightly disappointing snowfall last night in Leeds, but made for a pretty (and actually quite rideable, rather than a muddy/slushy mudfest) hour and a half out on the local trails this morning.

More Leeds commuting. Took the eeb because I had to carry a reasonably big bag of crap into work this morning.

Trails still in decent condition, not much mud at all. Main hazard is all the leaves on the floor.

I actually quite enjoyed it being cold, being able to wear all my winter stuff again and check it all still fits and enjoy it keeping me warm and comfortable

More dry valley fun this morning with a couple of mates.

I can't remember ever getting so many dry rides in in November.

Just above zero but a hell of a big windchill out in the open.

I'm sure if a rock had pinged up and hit one of my ears it would have shattered and fallen off.

Belfast today. First lovely, hard, grippy trails in ages!

Big ride across the moors last night. Only 5 km but took best part of 2 hours inc fixing a puncture. Was very cold but thankfully very still. An enjoyable ride.

@hardtailonly I really like the second photo you posted. Enjoying all the night and snow photos as we don't get any snow in our bit of East Yorkshire.

Good light today but trails felt slow from leaf cover sadly. Brain freezing cold weather though.

Very cold night ride last night. Trail conditions were excellent. Not that it was wet beforehand, but the frozen trails had huge amounts of sandpapery grip.

Local loop this morning.

Damp with a little drizzle in places.

Got back just before it rained.

A mooch around some back lanes and bridleways in the Shropshire hills. A chilly but sunny day, great to be out. I was wishing I'd taken my mtb on one particularly gloopy track though.

This is one of the first days this year that I just couldn’t motivate myself to slop though wet, slippy, muddy trails on a bike. So went for trail run instead. Sad, sad days.

Lunchtime gravel. Weather was decent. Not too sloppy on the trails just yet.20241126_124747
