What's the lightest FLAT pedal that anyone knows of? I want to do a super light weight build, but not use any kind of SPD type stuff. I found this:

230g a pair

but unfortunately it's not looking like you can buy them in this country..

Recently bought Wellgo B185 pedals for my lightweight build, not as light as those above at 320g/pair but easily available from CRC I think at a reasonable price. Grippy enough, well built and sturdy, without being total weight weeny fodder.

You can get them in other colours too, though depending on your shoe size they might feel a bit small.

No idea if these are the lightest flats in existence, but they certainly aren't heavy at 140g a pair:

KCNC Knife Pedals

You can get stainless steel axled versions for quite a bit less money, and they're only 45g heavy a pair.

Some of these look like they would fall apart if a rock looked at them funny.

I was gonna say KCNC Knife as well. They're really rather small though, so not ideal for MTBing.

There was a design floating around a year or so ago that had the bearing and therefore also the axle housed in the threaded part of the pedal ie concentric to it. It needed a massively oversize axle though and therefore proprietary cranks but they were about 2mm thick and silly light.

Some crank bros ride them for a few months and they'll miraculously shed loads of weight when you least expect it.

If you just want to hang your bike on the scales yes, I'd not want to use them off road, they're very small.

See you back on here in a couple of weeks when you realise you need proper pedals for actual biking.

Quick note on the HT AE (evo) range- they are a bit shit. Realyl nice platform, very thin, good weight... Tiny tiny unsealed bearing on the end of the axle, in a very fragile cage, so both high maintenance and very delicate to service. I was considering importing a bunch til I got my test ones... Not good enough.

Good to see that you're proving that all Scots aren't dour, galsgowdan! 😉 They're gonna take at least two weeks to come over from Hong Kong but once I get them I'll be happy to post a follow up on this thread to see how practical they really are...

Got to agree with Dan here. Are you actually going to ride this thing or just look at it on the scales?

None of those look like they will survive a single impact. If you want lightish and proper tough go for a pinned resin pedal like the Nukeproof Electron.

I'll bet those throwaway all-plastic ones you get and never use on new bikes are pretty light. 😆 But yes as above, I would be going for something like those nukeproof ones with proper innards and a reasonably durable outside. They don't look too dreadful either...

I'm using Nukeproof Electrons and they're nice pedals - also lighter than the pedals most people use. They're on my muni which has been thrown down a few rocky slopes, so certainly reasonably durable. Not even in the same ballpark for weight as those mentioned above though, and I think you can find lighter functional pedals if you're prepared to spend the money (the Electrons also have the advantage of being cheap).

Electrons are ok but not the best shape (you can feel the axle ridge). Seem to have enough grip.

Blackspire Sub 3 have a nice shape and size for their weight.

geetee - were those the Flypaper pedals? Silly thin, needed to buy the whole crankset as well as pedals, something like $500+. Surprisingly I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere on the web nowadays.

Pedals don't matter on a super lightweight build. They're in a side category of weight that doesn't really mean anything.

Just quote the weight "without pedals" and stick some burgtecs on there.

Not ridden yet, they are pretty small (hence the Dime bar for scale) will post again with any results...

SPDs ( and learning to use them ) would of given you more of an actual ' race ' advantage than saving 100 - 150g on flats. Eating the Daim half an hour before the race starts would also help.

I use flats btw.

Bizarre thing to save that much weight on, if it's for posing just do "without pedals" weights, like everyone else does. I'm hope you're wearing ballerina shoes and not some hefty 2 pound set of Five Tens. I've given up trying to skimp on the contact points, the rest is fair game though.

Do people actually quote weights without pedals then!? I know manufacturers do (and can sort of understand why), but didn't think normal folk actually did!

Nukeproof electrons are fairly light, but not very grippy.

Wellgo mg1's are my choice for lightish but grippy flat pedals.

Most people on the internet do "without wheels" I think.
