Happy snow day!
On another subject, I'm looking at building up a fairly light all steel bike for faster, shorter rides. A bit XC but still with more contemporary geometry. The singular swift is the benchmark, and I had an earlier one that didn't quite do it for me as it was a bit twitchy. The new one with the slacker head angle might be perfect though.
Is there a lighter, rigid, all steel frameset available for a reasonable price? I like steel, and I like steel forks.
An early stooge would be good but they weigh a bit more. I have a large stooge which is a great trail bike, but looking for lighter.
Cheers for your thoughts.
This is what I wanted out of my MK1 Stanton Sherpa and it's got there now, after ditching the suspension fork, longer, lower stem, narrower bars and most importantly probably, some lightish wheels.
I might yet put the fork back on with reduced travel, now I know how I like it.
New ones aren't cheap, but if you can get a s/h one like I did, it's a corker.
Or a nice 26 inch with carbon fork from Exotic. Tonnes of nice steel 26 frames for bargain prices.
Root out a first gen Niner SIR.9 or MCR.
(The new one is heavier.)
Cost in a nice paint job.
Low 20’s (lbs), isn’t too difficult to achieve for a full build.
They ride beautifully. About as perfect as a steel bike can get.
