Looking at the MTBR site they have ginormous threads of people posting pics of specific types of bikes. For those who enjoy spending hours simply admiring bicycles I thought it might be an idea to start one here. On my preferred area of interest of course....

My voodoo hardtail, only got back into mtb last year after about 16 yrs off the bike!
Only had a small budget at the time but in all fairness its a top bike, rides really well and will do the job until the time comes for adding a full suss to the stable! hopefully this link works could get the pic to load earlier!

Because I don't tend to take pictures when I'm out and about, I'm afraid you'll have to have a picture of it in my kitchen.

At no point did you stipulate you wanted anything more than a picture.

My mudplugger before it's first muddy outing. Now used for solo night riding too. 2013 Bizango off gumtree with a few upgrades.

The suspension seat post is to help out my dodgy back.lol

First ht I've had in over 15 years and it's genuine fun to ride!

poopscoop you need your rear light to be higher up so it is not covered by the rear guard.

@trumpton.

Totally right mate. That pic was taken on a shake down ride before it was really set up properly.

Got a nice rechargeable light front and rear now and mounted much higher up on the back.👍

You are spot on though, mounted like that I would have been car fodder for sure.lol

Here's my Salsa El Mariachi. I'm no purist, I like tech bikes and tech riding, but this bike is brilliant for covering miles across the mountains on and off road. If I had to only have one bike it'd be this. Possibly I'd keep a suitable sus fork just in case though.

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

It's currently broken, but it's being repaired and restored. I'll never let this bike go, if it fails beyond repair I'll have another one made just like it!

Just host the image on www.postimage.org then click the "hotlink for forums" tab.

Then just past the text on here. You don't need to sign up or anything.👍

I read that bit about cryptic posts after my post sorry..

Also, quote doesn't work very well..

my blue one: it's a 2017 Kona Unit, small, One23 steel 780mm bars with some sort of rise and a bit of a back sweep, spec enduro bolt on grips, some cheap charge wheels from a cooker I think to make it a 29er (was a 27+) tubeless converted, using non tubeless Maxxis Ardents, (they work fine).

Brooks Cambium seat, Salsa QR seat clamp, GX1x11 gears, SuperStar Nano Evo X pedals.

I'm fat, slow and hugely out of shape, but I live somewhere quite flat, and I get out when I can. the 29 wheels seem better for riding to and from the places I actually get off road, than the 27+ setup did.

It’s a Chinese titanium from Waltly. Based on a kona honzo / taro. Been delighted with it though would tweak a few aspects next time round. Currently in singlespeed guise and rides great.

Like mol I love a harcore balls out ride down crazy trails but nothing beats the mint sauce feeling of zipping along on a light rigid bike on out of the way trails. Direct quick feeling riding.

@Poopscoop

Hey, want to start a club?!😁

If it involves chips, and beer, with a bit of cycling, then I'd probably consider it. Otherwise, it does sound like an awful lot of effort.

Frame bought off Ton for much cheapness. Originally built this up to tow my son but I like it that much I've not ridden anything else. It doubles up as a commuter bike if the weather is bad.

Genesis tarn forks. It's been built from spares, it's old school 3x10, inner tubes, bar ends. Total cost sub £400. Bargain!

Currently waiting for brant to release a new 29er alliminium Scandal for me to transfer everything over and upgrade a few bits and bobs.

Hope this counts. This photo shows it with a 650b+ rear. Did a solo North to South Wales coast to coast with this set up. Now sold on to a friend but it’s the only bike I ever regret moving on.

Yep. The best thing about riding it for me, besides the incredibly quick and well balanced handling of that particular bike, is the solid feeling when getting out of the saddle. I'd ridden FS for so long I'd forgotten the sheer physical satisfaction of standing up and heaving on the bars properly. Feels great. Until you go downhill on something rocky. Then it feels not so great!

@andykirk

Why do Kona Units always look so cool…

It's basically the owners. 😉

I think the skinny tubes and blue work really well, it's not why I got the bike but it didn't hurt the decision, it's sort of evocative of the Gulf Racing colours, that's why I went for Orange Superstar pedals on mine... but the black and gold on the 2018 ones is JPS/Lotus livery, which also makes me very happy indeed.

With the brooks seat, and the skinwalls, I do feel like I need to grow a beard, live on a plant based diet, and start drinking latte's rather than pints and eating chips and pies.

I quite like that its both high and low tech. It's light, without being twangy. It's 'kin rapid, and great when I need to be reminded what it's like to make good line choices.

Comfortable, it aint. But that is solved by some 4.8 minions on 80mm rims, if thats what I fancy...

Call me old fashioned but I’m not a fan of the no stem, looong low and slack look on a hardtail. It just looks wrong.

My On-One Scandal on its umpteenth incarnation. (No bar tape because still refining position).

Running it singlespeed and amazed at what it goes up on a 42/19 - must be the skinny 2" tyres.

Genesis Tarn, bought on a whim to try B+, absolutely love it, completely sold on the big wheel thing ended up buying a Hightower which I’ve since sold on again as it was just too much bike for the riding I get to do, this is now my only MTB and does for everything from local pootling to Lakeland epics.
