The naivety of youth.
Just catching up on old times on youtube. I used to think they were cool 😯
What else did you used to really love as an angst ridden teenager but now can't stand?
I liked their more punky early stuff.
Saw them playing Subterrainia in early '90s and complained to Evan Dando that he didn;t play enough of the older stuff, he said the other guy wouldn't let him.
They did go a bit wishy washy when he got into Gram Parsons and class As.
The music is kind of Ok, the video's are cheesy as anything - 'Into your arms' being the prime example.
"its a shame about ray" (the album) will always remind me how i felt when I was 16/17/18
It's now impossible for me to judge it in any objective fashion
Great band.
Well, I say 'band', but much in the same was as Trent Reznor is NIN, Evan is The Lemonheads. I liked Juliana Hatfield and Ben Deilly too though.
The first three albums are for completists only really. Lovey is underrated in my opinion. It's a Shame about Ray and Come on Feel are the classic albums, Car Button Cloth is very nearly as good and contains some of Evan's best songs (Hospital, The Outdoor Type, If I Could Talk I'd Tell You).
The eponymous eighth album is really good too, Evan backed by the Descendents, well..two of them anyway. There's some seriously good whimsical songwriting on that albums.
Varshons is a covers slbum and I can take it or leave it.
Glastonbury 1994 was my favourite Lemonheads show. I was lucky enough to see their 'final' gig at Reading 1997. Evan was on fine form and insisted that they extend their set at a cost of many thousands of pounds to himself in fines so they could pack a few more requests in. Last time I saw them was at the Ben & Jerry's Summer Sundae in 2008. Well, I say 'them', I mean Evan and his latest backing band. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
ETA: The Outdoor Type was actually written by Tom Morgan, but triple whatevs etc etc
I saw them at Glasto 94 too. Pretty much right at the front, it was the worst scrum I've ever been in at a Glasto. Millions of girls screaming at Evan Dando. Well, when I say the worst...
If I was a booger, would you blow your nose?
Would you keep it?
Would you eat it?
I'm just trying to give myself a reason, for being around
Quality!
I remember playing Creator and Hate Your Friends loads. Especially on long dark wintery National Express rides home from college, when you could smoke at the back of the coach. On an c60 cassette Walkman. Now that dates me 🙂
yeah, I still play Creator and Hate Your Friends.
don't know anything about them or their previous stuff but I listened to 'It's a Shame About Ray' a lot in the late 90s
I love that album
the last two solo albums were great, the reformed lemonheads disappointing. i'm still ahuge fan. there's a nice clip of dando playing a townes van zandt song recently that is great.
in answer to your OP, i used to really like Bjork. nuff said.
Still listen to 'come on feel' regularly....
The eponymous eighth album is really good too, Evan backed by the Descendents, well..two of them anyway. There's some seriously good whimsical songwriting on that albums.
Drum Ogre and Dome O'Chrome.... That pair are amazing... never really been a lemonheads fan until I heard that album... ALLROY FOR PRESIDENT
