The awesome descent on the Lawnt, basically the whole reason for doing the loop, has been totally filled in with quarry chippings and is now essentially a fire road!

Clearly, I missed the memo 😥
The scenery is lovely, but the whole loop is something of a slog now with not much reward...

RIP The Lawnt

From a quick Google....

"a fast and furious bit of downhill. The descent down to The Lawnt is the just about the finest and most technical descent in these parts and one not to be missed."

I take it this is no longer the case 🙁

Double 🙁

I have just realised this is the lane known as Pheasant Pen Steps that was always a highlight of a 4x4 tour in that area. I can imagine it was great fun on a MTB, it has been many years since I drove it though. I imagine the constant 4x4 traffic meant the council decided to resurface it in an attempt to stop it deteriorating further.

Sorry yes, the Lawnt is part of a loop near Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, borough of Wrexham I think.

Yeah, the whole area up there sees heavy 4x4 usage and is knackered basically. I did it a few years back and there were lots of trail motorbikes all over it too.

I thought they'd leave that bit though as it was basically a load of rock step downs. Lots of fun on a bike.

The same happened to the descent into Pandy. Most of the trails in the ceriog valley are BOATS or RUPPS so are very popular with the motorized fraternity.Eventually the erosion gets so bad the council are forced to do remedial work (ie flatten them).
