I'm in.

Bike sat here in my lodge, fully serviced and still spotless.

Had loads planned. Garmin still fully charged. Leaving for home first thing in the morning.

No one ever warned me kids/family could be so selfish with their time!

Sulks off to feel sorry for ones self.

If it helps I was just up there.

Negotiated a day at whinlatter, packed girls off on walking trail. Got halfway down the first bit of the blue, rear mech pretty much exploded necessitating a couple of miles walk, cycle wise didn't have a replacement clutch mech, then a wait for the girls to finish their walk. Negotiated time slot gone.......

I did manage a couple of fun hours on my road bike later in the week which saved my happiness!

Ceepers, that's karma biting you back for being blessed with a ride in the lakes, and wasting it at bloody Whinlatter. 😀

I've just done a similar thing in Kos for two weeks. Had big dreams of hiring a bike and exploring the island. What actually happened is that I moaned that it was too hot to ride and lazed at the beach instead.

Probably!!

Whinlatter is the time limited, acceptable, guilt free family option, they are happy to while away a couple of hours in the forest as long as I buy them a nice lunch.

Twiddling their thumbs while I embark on an all day epic not so much!

If it helps, most of my holidays over the last 12 years have revolved around going surfing. At least with riding, the roads/ trails are always there. Surfing on a holiday without being a Complete selfish b***stard is fraught with trying to subtley influence choice of destination, time of visit, timing of daily activities around (often wrong ) predictions of swell, wind and tide. Bribing them to accept an hours drive to the "right" beach when there's a fine sunbathing one just two minutes away........

All that and there's a number of two week holidays I've been on where there have no waves for over ten out of the fourteen days!

Had written permission prior to getting here, just the days out ended up being days/evenings out.

Coming back in a few weeks for a solo day out to make up for it which eases the pain a little. Well that and Corona.

Half a week in Dorset and the bike only came out the van to get to the tent and stuff.

Suppose I should have expected taking a baby camping to be a bit hard work.
