Going up there for a week this spring and was thinking of taking the gravel bike. So I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the area and if you could give a few pointers in the right direction?

I proposed to my now wife on Seil. Lovely part of the world.

The TnT is a great pub that clachan and the kitchen has just reopened for food. Not tried their food since, but their fish & chips used to be braw. Walk over the hill behind to one of the best Anchorages of the west coast; Puilladobhrain.

Ellenbeich also has a great restaurant/ pub - oyster something or other. Get to watch the sunset over the Garvelachs / Mull / jura with some fresh seafood. Worth getting the 'ferry' over to Easdale for a wander round and some stone skimming.

Luing is worth an explore too. Theres a nice tangle of a bay referred to as back o the pond on the west coast of the island.

Riding wise, I dont know of much of road - mostly the paths are tussocky & boggy and questionable whether they are rideble. They are brilliant islands if you've got a boat/canoe tho. If you get the water be very conscious of the tides. The Cuan sound runs around 8kts and the Luing sound a bit less, but still fierce.

Lovely part of the world. Enjoy.

Have ridden a few times there, from a base near Oban, took gravel bike and it was ideal.

I've done a few rides and walks in that area.
Lots of 'out and back, because', not too many circular rides. But that's all part of the character.

I'm planning a couple of days riding there and further south to Ardfern area with mrs_oab this year, although she doesn't yet know she has a gravel bike or we are going... 😉

Ha, I've actually never thought to plot a route via Seil (my mum lives locally, I'm always planning little routes from her house). Looks like you could go:

Balvicar - Bridge over Atlantic - Ardmaddy - Degnish - Kilmelford - Loch Avich - Dalavich - Inverinan - Loch Nant - Musdale Farm - Kilmore - Kilninver - Balvicar

That's 75km all in, but a healthy mix of tarmac and gravel. Ardmaddy to Degnish is gravel, Kilmelford to Loch Avich is steep and rolling singletrack road but the surface is poor and quite, um, gravelly at times. The Oban Sportive also does a gravel detour at this point.

Inverinan to Loch Nant is offroad, and Loch Nant to Musdale is good landrover track. The return is all road with a short section of A-road but it's not too bad.

Looks like a great wee circuit actually.

You could shorten the above significantly by taking the 'String of Lorne' from Loch Avich to Scammadale. I think it's all landrover track, makes it about 50km although the Strava route planner is throwing a wobbly trying to follow the String of Lorne!
