As trails go I think the Green Mile trail is pretty good. Maybe not as knaw as some of the others in the area but one of my must visit when in area. One of the first I rode there and wow opened up Ballater as a destination. Did the Romans builds some of it? 😂
It's one that I missed out on doing this year when I had to pull out of our Cairgorms trip ( that & Heartbreak Ridge..) ..
Two of the best trails they have ridden according to my mates who accorded me no sympathy at all ..bastards !
Nice little vid ..with the music turned off!
Ilya, how many times do you have to re-ride after settibg up the camera!
Matt_outandabout: just the once is my rule otherwise be there forever. I do not review the footage on the trail to see how I/we did either. Record place record place. Go home and see what we have. Yes like to be smoother faster air a bit more. We are there to ride it primarily 😂 Leave the finess to you lot.
Hogynd: thx for watching 👍 music that is sometimes more difficult to find and matchup. Like to hear what you would do 😀. Always looking to improve. Mind for some no sound track is the choice. The mics on GoPro’s are not the best for wind noise (really disrupting) and picking up the bike go by so a lot of silence or white noise. Imho not good.
I'd actually say that your music choice works a lot better on this one than on a few of your other vids! I like it!
Your vid doesn't show the section that christened the whole route unfortunately. The gate in the end of your vid leads down what was once a very lush forwarder track, approximately 1 mile long. Some very exciting doubletrack "racing" resulted in a few offs and stewards enquiries as the last fast corner was attempted on the damp grass and moss. 😂
A short road link leads on to Charlie's back passage and the Butcher's link on the return leg to Ballater. There's also an alternative return off the Green Mile, but it's currently closed due to the bridge at Polhollick being shut after the muckle speight two winters ago.
Sorry drui😉
I've done it once. Loved the climb but didn't really enjoy the descent if I'm honest. That's not uncommon and probably just me being wierd though. I did it on the rigid fatbike and found a lot of the descent was just bumpy enough to be annoying. Mostly technically quite easy but then a couple of sections (like the bit at 2:33) where I couldn't see the line and it just looked like an accident waiting to happen. I should go back with a bit of suspension one day though as the views were great.
On bike no bounce footage is very good. What gimbal do you use?
did it a couple of times.
standalone its a good trail. just find most of the other trails in the area more rewarding in terms of terrain and views.
Ridden in the area and really like it but not done the Green Mile. Was hoping to go again in the spring, any particularly good spots to stay locally?
Notlocal: ha there need a local to tell the history. I want by Trailforks info.
Rickmeister: using a gopro karma with a HERO5 camera.
Second year in a row we stayed in Ballater each for a week. Used it as a base to do local and trails further north like Learnie Red Rocks, Bonar Bridge and Golspie.
@FOG depends on your budget. You've got the option of camping, bunkhouse, b&b/guest house, hotels of varying quality or holiday cottage rentals. What sort of thing were you thinking of??
A cheap B&B or small self catering place would be ideal. I noticed a hostel last time I was there but wanted somewhere quiet which hostels often aren't!
FOG: We used cottages.com. Hired a very tidy bungalow in the town.
