So today I bust my nail on my right index finger putting a new set of HanDampfs on MrSchmancy.

Tell us what horrific injuries you have suffered when playing either with or on bikes.

Photos most welcome.

Banged my shin a few times..

Oh and broke my t5 and t6 vertebrae, one a burst fracture compressed by 30% the other fractured all the way through. Resulted in an instrumented spinal fusion which consists of 2 titanium rods, 8 screws, and some bone chipped off my left hip (surprisingly painful actually) to strengthen it all back up nicely.

Also got a nice hope lever end profile shaped scar on my right elbow.

Pretty sure I broke something in my left wrist once too after hitting a stone gate post (in the dark, under the influence) as there's still a lump there now when I tense my wrist.

The most painful is surely banging your knee on your stem though (especially when it's cold, pain seems to hurt more when it's cold)...?!?

😀

However please keep us all updated yeah.

And seriously I do hope it works out for you.

Not really done too much damage to myself on my bike, my worst injury was from skiing in January. Anyhow here is a list of one of my bike injures.

Summer ~2000 Tore my scrotum casing a double and landing on a brand new Tioga DH tyre.
December 2011 Snapped part of my ulnar nerve clipping a tree, I still have no feeling in my little finger and only half of the one next to it has feeling.
November 2012 Bruised ribs from a superman over the bars landing on my chest on a log, still really hurts.

Plus countless grazes and scratches from standard normal crashes.

Most of my injuries have been running, nasty dangerous sport that. And whiplash from playing squash.
.
Anyway, plenty of the usual cuts and bruises, a couple with stitches.
.
Most painful was a fractured kneecap.
.
Scariest, in an oh my god I'm never going to be able to do anything ever again kind of way was a trapped nerve in my neck.
.
Most recent hospital case was a stupid road crash, fell over a kerb and cut my knee quite deep, you know when it's so deep it doesn't bleed. The sides of it were all white like something in the butchers. Andyway, I filled it full of germolene and left it. A week later I id a 6hr race in the rain, a lot of mud, and then washed it in a river as that as all that was to hand. A week later I ended up in hospital (on my birthday) having it professionally cleaned out with iodene and then tetanus jabs and things, it looked horrible.
.

Hit an oak gatepost. With the front brake lever. Resulted in smashed fingers and an OTB. Landed on face on kerb stones. Dislocated jaw. Spent five minutes locating glasses before re-locating jaw. (I should point out at this juncture, that it was midnight, and I'd had a skin full). Found brown paper bag containing Jalfreze, and walked the last two minutes home. Final insult, bottom fell out of takeaway bag as I put my key in the back door. I was scooping curry back into the carton whilst thinking 'I'm ****in avin this..' despite being in no fit state to use my jaw for anything. Moral - don't drink & ride. (to be fair, I was only riding through the park because I'd already fallen over my bike twice trying to push it home..)

A few years ago I put a 5 inch long, 3 inch deep gash in my inner thigh, just a few centimetres away from far more 'delicate' flesh.

I did it on the black run at Aston. I'm not 100% sure the actual cause but 2 days later my poor wife discovered a lump of flesh on one of the pins on my left pedal so I'd hazard a guess.

I do have pics, I'll have a dig and upload them. They are unpleasant however.

Broke jaw and 3 ribs at the furthest away point from the car park at gt...limped back to car with wonky face and laboured breathing..just thought I'd winded myself, until I lifted my bike onto the roof rack.thats when I passed out, came too with all my mates leaning over me saying I didn't look right.gave up mtb for a year whilst healing, took up the road and broke my hand in my first road crash...since then I've done my ankle, more ribs,a toe...won't stop me though!

Nothing on a bike but huge shoulder dislocation and ACL rupture (both needing surgery) on skis!

Landed on my head, severe concussion, whiplash and t6 & 7 vertebrae fractured basically. It's nice to boast that I "broke my back" 😀

Added to that "I was in a coma!". Well, they knocked me out due to my constant whining and so they can get on with their job doing scans and all that. Still no memory of the incident (was out for a couple of days, and only remember riding and then waking up in ICU).

To be fair it could have been bad with a spinal injury but no spinal damage and bones healed up okay. Was on the bike a month and a half later. Just back pain on occasion now over a year on.

Plenty of other smashes. Mostly pedal strikes and face/arm scrapes, other than that mashed toe, bruised ribs many times and possibly broken at least once. Oh and broken wrist but that was snowboarding.

Broken ankle bone, 4 bones in back of hand, couple of ribs and a few stitches here and there----that, combined with the years going by has slowed me down a bit as I'm getting too old to deal with broken parts.

Only really started the trails malarkey in July - did this 3 weeks ago on follow the dog - I am now the proud owner of a set of raceface knee pads. It smarted a bit, I must admit.

Recently, i had almost finished building up and old bike and jumped on to check the saddle height was ok, but I hadn`t fitted the chain and the saddle was a bit high.
I somehow managed to be sat on my left nut while my brain is trying to workout why the cranks are spinning but I`m not going anywhere, whilst at the same time trying to block out the quite sickening pain!
Seemed like an age before I managed to dismount and then double up on the garage floor for a bit ... What an idiot!

Picture the scene - 1973, 4 years old on a sunny Sunday. Can still smell the Sunday roast my mom was making. Anyway i was on my suister Raleigh Tomahawk on the drive when somehow it wheelied and i fell off the back. Apparently bumped my head somewhat as it was almost 4 weeks later that i woke up in a hospital bed. During the 4 weeks my mom and dad were told to stay close at one point as i wasn't expected to last longer than 1/2 hour. 'Died' for 11 minutes and revived twice. Brain scans for the next couple of years to ensure no lasting damage.

Other than that not much to report 🙂

I've had 6 broken ribs in the last couple of years. That is a hell of a sore injury.

Thats about it for now.

Baby Girl was born in April 2010.

Went out with the biking boys in the same November having lashed out on a set of Lyriks on my prized Yeti 575.

Landed a jump off line. Before you could say "He's going to hit that tree" I.......hit a tree.

Managed to lean to the left and avoid the tree. Bike went straight into it. I landed 16 feet away on my chest, having superman-ed it the whole way.

Dislocated left shoulder, but rather than breaking the supraspinatus tendon, the bone in my arm split in two.

Rode home. Got very little sympathy. Met a really fit physiotherapist and was unable to do shitty nappes though.

Then to add to my popularity at home, I was out in the Peaks with some chums on the same bike about 9 months later, shoulder was just about sorted out by then. Landed another jump waaaaay to late, hit a steel gate.

bust 2 ribs, cheekbone and destroyed helmet. (not the important helmet thankfully).

Popularity at home an all time low.

Put 140mm forks back on after that...

My last fracture injuries were numbers 12 and 13.. crushed T11 and T12 vertebrae from MTB bail out over small wall that turned out to be 15 feet on the other side.

Before that:
11,fractured Coccyx (sledging)
10, Fractured Sternum (Judo)
9, Fractured rib (Judo)
8, Fractured rib (waterslide) (FFS!)
7, Fractured wrist (fight)
6, 5, 4 Tibia, and 2x fibula (motorcycle smash)
3, Scapula (m/cycle accident)
2, rib (fight)
1, finger (rugby)

My lad's already clocked up fractures to both ankles from rugby and skateboarding, so no doubt he'll be following in my footsteps..... 🙂

Ohh dear God, some of these stories are funny.

The only seriously injury I've had apart from me breaking my fingernail today is a really bruised coxix when I slammed the road on the way to Molina ( opposite side of the mountain to the Stelvio Pass ) that was a funny injury to have, couldn't side down for a week, nor wipe my arse.

Those pics ^^ make me feel ill 😳
