You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Looked in halfords a few days ago, they are selling the full suspension frame to the boardman pro for £100. I want to startcto create my own bike from scratch, would this be a good base frame? Also are fox vanillas 140mm a good set of forks for an FS bike?
They are good frames and that's a good price, when I asked a couple of weeks ago I was told they weren't allowed to sell them frame only for less than £400.
"they are selling the full suspension frame to the boardman pro for £100."
Buy it. They run 100mm/120mm forks. I run my Boardman HT with 120mm just fine. 140mm fork might break it though.
I think you need to decide what type of bike your building then look at the different frame options.
There's nowt wrong with the boardman FS frame, though I found there paint to be fragile, BUT it's designed to take 120mm forks, not 140mm...
Also the boardman will be classic XC style geometry, not your all current "slack as it can be" 140mm travel freeride/AM style bikes.
As long as this tick's all you boxes then go for it, and ask where the 120mm bolt thru reba's went, that came with the frame.
£100 with shock? full suspension frame?
Which Halfords was this? What sizes did they have? Did they come with a shock?

As above
£100 for a brand new full suspension frame ?
I think your questions a bit pointless as the frame will be gone when you get back
No... my halfords had a frame left over the 09/10 period, and when I asked about frames they started to recommend me the team frame at £450 inclusive shock, but after a while they 'remembered' that they had a pro fs frame without shock which they couldn't sell. I told them I could get hold Of some monarchs. They said ok 🙂 I don't mind a bit of paint damage, as long as the frame itself is in good condition.
I put the deposit down this afternoon, all is well 🙂
And thanks for the advice, I'll look around for some 120mm forks on eBay.
Yeh that is a good price for a decent frame, if you have the vanilla's or can get them cheap, they are fairly easy to lower with internal spacers which is another option, however a specific 120mm fork will probably be lighter and more suited for the xc sort of duties the frame is more intended for.
