Hi folks, there are various bridleways that go up and over The Black Mountain range (north of Brynamman, east of Llandeilo) and I'm trying to work out which ones might actually exist and be rideable. I haven't walked up there for a few years so I don't have a working knowledge of the area really.
I'm after some rideable terrain that requires a bit of navigation in prepatation for a training course I've got coming up. I'll be on an e-bike so keen to avoid too many locked gates and high fences!
Any tips for a rideable loop gratefully received!
(I'll be coming from Pemrbrokeshire so starting in the west would be good)
Cheers, MAtt

They are mostly rideable but you would really have to WANT to ride them to make it worthwhile. Long, often featureless moorland, sometimes boggy. Big stream crossings in anything other than summer. Bits of them I have walked on (mostly the eastern end) looked like they might have been fun and OK. It is the western ends whihc are, as far as I have been led to believe, not quite so nice. I can ask some mates who have recently been across there if you like.

Cheer guys, sounds exactly as I feared/suspected. I’m heading north instead this time; might have an explore (which an ebike makes more bearable) in the summer.

I wondered if a fat bike might help on that kind of terrain?

I really want to go up there even if it means walking - looks really wild.

I've been meaning to explore that area for the last decade, purely out of interest as I sometimes like to go on a long featureless ride away from everyone! I do remember once when I was in my teens being taken out along the bridleway that runs north from the Dan-Yr-Ogof Showcaves, was a giant slog but back then that kind of ride was sort of normal.

It's hard earned but the descent down to the showcaves is phenomenomenal!
