dont want a xc lid - albeit i realise they will breathe far better

just general 'enduro' type helmets

i used to really love the giro montaro, and from memory it was brilliant at holding off the sweat.......until the pads fell apart

are they the same now or have they replaced it with a better model?

circa £100 max ideally want a really good breathable helmet for summer

I get a really hot sweaty head, still not found a really breathable helmet despite trying those which are recommended as having good venting.

On a Fox Speedframe Pro at the moment, which is OK but not great, I've resigned myself to the fact I'll aways just have a sweaty head.

FWIW I had a Kask for road duties but swapped it out as too hot. It sits very close to the head so airflow is limited. I've got a POC for road now, it's much better (but I still get hot).

Watching with interest. My giro montaro isn't great and the bell fourforty isn't much better. I was tempted by a kask rex when they were really cheap. Specialized tactic 3 MIPS are on sale and look very well vented.

I always thought the montaro was pretty much one of the best out there for breathing well?

I’ve got a forefront 2 and whilst it’s mega comfy and great for warmth in winter I think before springs out it will be too hot

Just retired a Montaro after a crash but it was also still on original pads

Cool it looks like there’s a montaro 2 out now looks identical though to the eye

Maybe it has different pads in? Bit too pricey really

There’s no many places sell the montaro these days either

@sirromj - £99 at Sigma. £69 at Merlin if you wear a Large. Within the OPs budget. RRP has gone way up since I bought mine!

Merlin have bell fourforty MIPS for 50quid. I think it's better ventilated than the montaro, but not quite as good a fit for my head. Decent price for a good MIPS lid.

Outdoorgearlab have a lot of reviews, with comparative ratings for ventilation amongst other factors.

Kask Rex was a hot and sweaty helmet for me and I had not noticed that I had a sweaty head before it.

Use a skull cap or bandana under the lid - I always use a skull cap - even on vented road lids. Works well with enduro helmet's too.
