I know this is a little late, but I have finally made a small edit of the progress Nicholas has made with the Balance Bike.
Thank you everyone at STW, and I hope you have as much joy as Nicholas has already got from his favourite Christmas present.
that's ace, it's brought a lump to my throat. Cheers for sharing.
Original thread for those who don't remember it

Tell Nicholas that he and his bike look rad!

Proper bloomin' brilliant.
That first thread and this are the best thing on STW - apart from the guy who built the trike for his kids, and Jamie's gif's....
😀
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
Keep moving, that lad! Brilliant!
A shoe in for midweek mini movies!
Great bike and more so, great kid !! Wont be long and he'll have it dialled !! 8)
I saw the thread title and thought oh this will be good, but his smile says it all really that is properly awesome.Looks like he'll be scooting along in no time.
Bit dusty here.

😀
(I imagine you've tried it but ... saddle a bit lower ?)
Cheers Andy - A little ray of sunshine!
I've been meaning to ask how Nicholas was getting on but figured that test rides would be delayed until the weather improved.
Brilliant!
I did try it to check my first ever wheel builds. Solid as a rock and as straight as a Cornish mile....
How great is that.
Purple rims too!
Brilliant. Well done fella 😉
Nice! 8)
Great stuff. 😀

Trackstand. I can't think what the life equivalent would be - some form of rut work; alcoholism, drug addiction etc.
Drugs are like a trackstand, kids...
Fantastic. Absolutely, properly and awesomely fantastic. Nicholas, the bike, his smile and the video. Well done all round and thank you. Hugs.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone, but I still think Mike should be given a huge pat on the back for again helping a parent of an autistic child. His generosity in regards to time and skills are very much appreciated.
Thank you Mick_r.
Also thanks should be given to all of the others who sent me a seat post, an awesome flamed saddle, QRs and offers for more.
Chaps at STW towers, I hope you pick up on this....These people should be recognised for honouring the spirit of the STW forum and our cycling community as a whole, please.
I can't quite make out what Nicholas says, to which you respond 'it's not a made up name, it's the chap that made your bike'. But if by extrapolation it's 'mike r' or derivative thereof, I demand that stw honour it, by adding "(not a made up name)" to his log in, just like junky gets the Lazarus honour.
That is beautiful.... Bloody hay fever is playing me right up!!
He could do with being off his tip toes though. It's easier to balance if you have your whole foot available.
Double post
Awesome! Further updates very welcome as you have them.
Early hayfever, damn.
bikes are really ace, aren't they 🙂
That's wonderful to see Andy. Great start to my day.
As a couple of guys above have said it may be worth lowering his saddle a bit so that he has more of a classic balance bike position.
BIG applause for the guys who helped out too.
Fantastic, well done to all involved.
Is his seat not a bit high? I know from my lads balance bike he needs it a bit lower to get a good push, lower than it would be for a pedal bike.
EDIT. seems it has been mentioned already, I should read before posting.
Nicholas said:
"Michael Ruston is a made up name!"
But yes, that is Mick_r
In regards to saddle height, I know it looks a little torturous but in order for him to sit in the saddle to begin with I had to raise it up to force him to. He was trying to avoid the saddle to begin with.
He grows like a weed so he now touches down nicely, and yes I think a video diary is not out if the question....
He managed a good few seconds freewheeling last weekend. I could not stop smiling as a result...
Thank you so much for sharing.
The smile that a bicycle makes is something to be treasured.
P.S. Would Nicholas like some stickers for his helmet (or anywhere)?
Great Stuff!! 😆
😀 Nice one.
Stickers are always welcome apparently
Thanks
AndyRT - I sent you a mail. Could you let me have your address please?
I seem to have a speck of sentiment in my eyes that's making them leak... 😉
Tell Nicolas that that's a REALLY sweet ride
Fantastic! Well done to you, and Nicholas.
That is awesome! Well done everyone involved, just brilliant.
