I took my bike to the US for a while - just got back. In the LBS (a big, quality one by UK standards) the guys said "So you Brits still like your 26ers eh, look around the shop - everything is 29 now, they're better in every way". The only 26" wheels in the shop were on a couple of old rental hacks - and my bike.

The 26er is dead, we just haven't noticed yet - like when you cut the head off a chicken and it still runs around for a while.

Having said that there were no 29ers in Walmart...

I'm gonna wait for the 32ers to come out - 3" better in every way than 29ers.

Never buy a bike with wheels bigger than your inside leg. 🙁

Have the Yanks got towpaths?

When I see a 29er here in France/Italian border amongst the twisty, rocky stuff, maybe then I'll take an interest..................

I read somewhere that on the East coast, the Hard tail market is dominated by 29ers- selling 4 for every 1 26er. IIRC.
IMHO I'm currently saving cash ready to make a purchase of a 29er cause I'm totally sold, and convert my current 26 HT to a FS.

Somebody had returned an unwanted courgette to the cucumber box in my local grocers this morning. It reminded me of the time I found a chocolate monkey's head on a shelf of slippers in Marks & Spencer.

I'd heard that that 29 ers were big over there (ere well the same size but you know what I mean0, but I hadn't realised it had gone so far into FS

Personally I'm sucipicous of any one who is completely in 1 camp

There must be space for both.

Nothing else has this level of wheel size convergence. Car and motor bike designers choose the correct size for the job

My prediction is that in 5 years we will see a healthy mix of 26 and 29 inch wheels. They'll just be on the spec list like rotor size and fork travel...

I'm from the US, bought into the 29er hype and guess what! I own a 456...loads more fun than my 29er was. everyone over here (me sometimes included) are just a bunch of mindless sheep that listen to the media to much when searching for the "next big thing". to each their own I guess....

When i was in hawai'i every other car was a ford mustang, so i rented one. It was great in a straight line but was rubbish in the turns. 😉

26ers will not go away as long as short arses like me are around.
Size small mtb in a 29er just doesn't work.
Like someone up there ^^^ said, it'll become a spec thing. Tall people will buy 29ers short ones 26ers. Why do kids bike have 20" wheel s or 24" wheels, it's a size thing.

How many of the top world cup downhill riders are running 29ers then? Oh...yeah I think 26" is pretty safe.

Please stop calling them 26ers.

Its not a religious preference but surely faster turning will always appeal, especially in the UK where we have lots of tight windy trails.

And how about 69ers? They make a lot of sense but the aesthetics seem to have stopped them dead.
