I've recently acquired a 2019 Alloy stump jumper which is pretty ace apart from the rear shock. Now, I've bought this second hand and I don't fully know what the servicing on the rear shock was, however for me being a fat knacker it's just majorly lacking in support regardless of the amount of air - I either pump it up to crazy (recommended) pressures and I get maybe 50% of the travel, or I lower the pressures and use all the travel and it feels like poop. I've done a basic service and it's still feeling crap - I think it's just a rubbish.
Being honest I've never liked air shocks although this harks back to my Yeti's which all had rubbish Fox air shocks, however on nearly all bikes I've had I've swapped to coil.
Ideally I'd like to go with a coil (I'm not bothered about weight) but finding something in the metric 210x55 is proving super difficult.
Any ideas? If an X2 is the answer to all my prayers then I'll spend up on one of those (If I can get it in the right size) but it's a lot of monies for something that might feel just as rubbish as the DPS on there at the moment.
I notice you dont mention volume spacers - got any in there?
I'd be looking at volume spacers in the air shock if I were you. Coils are less likely to work well for a heavier rider due to being linear. I've been running the Fox DPX2 air, RS Super Deluxe Ultimate air and Fox DHX2 coil on my Evo without any of your problems, but I am fairly light and the Evo is a more progressive leverage ratio than the standard stumpjumper, which also helps.

Had similar issues on my older stumpy, I'm also a fat knacker. I think there might be a bit of it that is inherent in the suspension design of the stumpy, so thats not great news.
However, I have had success by reducing the volume in the shock using the fox spacer kit, and later in doing a seal service/replacement.
It's still not great, but better than it was.

I've played around with the volume spacers, adding and removing but again it doesn't seem to make much of a difference which is why I was just wondering if the shock was crap. Does the Evo have a different shock size to the standard stumpy?
I don't think they do a CC coil that will fit?
or does it need weird specialized fittings? so perhaps Öhlins?
You can get the DBcoil IL in that size.
I think my Levo is very similar to the Stumpy, just with longer chainstays and 10mm more travel - there’s more compression damping and more volume spacers in the Levo’s shocks because the bike is heavier (and I suspect they’ve assumed the rider is heavier too). I’m running a lot of sag, about 37%, it uses the travel well but never hard bottoms out.

No weird fittings no, they've made a big fuss this year that it's using standard hardware. Link it great - much appreciated. I shall order one now!
Cane Creek say the Coil IL is not compatible with all 2019 stumpys (the yoke puts too much side load through the shock). But again, recommending a coil to a heavy rider on that frame would be poor advice anyway.

I had a similar issue with my Orange Segment when i first got it (2nd hand) it could be the shock needs a full service. Are you sure the damping etc is all working correctly. One thing suggested to me was to drop all the air out of the shock, unscrew the air-an and then clamp one end in a vice. You should be able to push the shock through its travel by hand. Change the rebound etc to see if the return rate changes. if not, it probably needs a full strip down and service.
I had an older alloy stumpy and the basic rear shock on it was awful, think it was a fox rp23 which you couldnt add volume spacers to because of the autosag. Getting a decent aftermarket shock was a big improvement, think the X2 would treat you well if you can find one.
X2 is a great shock, but I would be wary (depending on bike) if you are particularly heavy. I’m 86kg and ride a Mojo HD4 with an X2, it’s fantastic, but I’m right at the limit of the pressure chart to get 25% sag. I think the newer models allow more air pressure. But my shock is limited to 250psi
Maybe try and find someone on the net who had fitted an X2 first to see how they find it

Ditched the stock Monarch on my old Stumpy (2017) as it was useless - similar issues to you plus it would heat up lots on longer downhills
My stumpy had the funny shock connection so only 2 real options unless I went for a bike yoke adapter thing - rather than go with a Monarch plus I put a DVO Topaz on - transformed it to a great bike! So plush, so much support - If I were in the market for a new air shock I'd be hard pressed to look past DVO again
