Haven't had much time on the bike lately and have had a stressful time at work. It's also Christmas, so that all adds up to some overindulgence reaching pretty extreme levels in the last two days. So to redress the balance I thought I'd cycle home from their place on the racy road bike I'm not accustomed any more. Not only that, but instead of the boring short way which is about 75 miles I thought I'd take the scenic route around 85 miles which tops out over 500m. I also have a cold.

Suffice to say it started hurting on the first climb and just got worse. 6 frigging hours. My legs are tired of course but my shoulders are agony. So now I'm in the bath making a start on the Christmas Lush pile, drinking recovery drink and eating Christmas cake.

Man. Well, in some ways you make me feel better, knowing that I won’t be quite as far behind my cycling compatriots when I get back in the saddle as I most often expect I am.

If it makes you feel better I did 15km at 9yo pace today and feel the same with heavy cold. He enjoyed buzzing about dropping his new Whyte 403 off river banks though, as I enjoyed his grins also.

Scheduled for a 3hr road ride tomorrow, nor feeling much up to it.

Respect. At least you can eat loads of bad stuff now guilt-free.

85 miles with a cold, a bike you've not ridden for a while? Off to the asylum with you! 😈

Averaging nearly 15 mph for 6 hours on a hilly ride? Sounds perfectly reasonable to me...

I rode a bike for the first time in 4 months the other day, and time first time unassisted in 6 or 7.

4 miles round Leeds urban bike park's red route. I was ruined.

Tbh it wasn’t my finest idea, aside from the lack of fitness, still gonna be a fair while before I’m riding regularly, given the state of my foot after 4 miles 😤
