Sad to say that the much beloved Grange Guest House has permanently shut up shop.

Any recent good experiences of accommodation near Bike Park Wales? Ideally looking for something similar to the above, i.e. bike-friendly accommodation (good secure storage), decent breakfast and nice hosts.

Always just the Premier Inn for us... if the Merthyr one is expensive, there's a few within 10-15 miles.

Saw this place on a Ben Deakin video recently, looked brilliant.

Like Weeksy I use the Prem Inn. It's easy to get to, clean quiet, comfy, everything in the room works, and it's so close, you can ride to BPW if you wanted and it'd be a nice roll downhill home in the afternoon. It's walking distance to the Co-Op for snacks, there's a restaurant on site, and it's a 5 mins drive to the shopping estate for pizza, movies, fuel etc etc  They don't mind bikes in the rooms; and it's secure.

I think I've tried all the locally independent hotels in Methyr itself (I've not tried any of the bunk houses that have sprung up on the back of BPW)  through the years I've been going to BPW and not to put too fine a point of it, they're all worse by comparison.

What nickc said sums it up.
I have tried many and they've ranged from good to excellent and its nice to know your contributing to the local area but over the years its either hard to book the same place you like or worse I've been stung footing a bill upfront for people ie friends letting me down last minute.
So I simply use the travel lodge/premier Inn
Then I'm only financially responsible for myself and its just easier all round.
Although if I fancy a spontaneous trip down on my own to recharge the batteries I love staying in the pods at Cwmcarn, cafe on site lovely forest and great trails right on the doorstep ,I then commute to bpw from there .

Second this. If it’s the one at Llangatock, it’s a great location for a YHA. Open fire and smaller/larger dorm rooms.

Travelodge in Merthyr. Cheap, they allow bikes in rooms and there’s a good curry house nearby.

I really like the Travelodge there - it’s so predictable!

We usually stay further from BPW, and ride at Dirt Farm (tractors! peacocks! broken arms!) or FOD. There's not a huge amount of affordable accomodation to the east of BPW but what there is tends to be really good.

stayed at that bike park lodge a year or so ago. It was good. Really nice place, very secure bike storage, workshop, parking, walk into town. no breakfast through!

+1 for Premier Inn. Low hassle, particularly just for an overnight. Dinner there is OK, but only a short drive/taxi into town for other options.

https://roostmerthyr.co.uk/ looks good for self-catered if you're staying a few days.

+1 for premier inn (£35-40 a room), if its expensive, abergavvenny is newer (costa /mcD next door), bike in room, ok food,

from the merthyr one, in front of the soulless pub next door, cross the roundabout under the train station, across the river Taff footbridge, up the street, and turn left, one block over 'the Richard Arms' barstaff and landlady and locals very welcoming and friendly.. only open friday saturdays (till late), 6 beers for £21

had a great time this weekend gone.
