That new Pace sure looks long (when just looking at numbers) so should the chain stays also be a little longer to help the whole bike feel more balanced at speed, or does the fact that they are adjustable sort of make up for that?

Pretty sure Cotic (and Starling) have both experimented with shorter chainstays on their longer bikes but found longer ones slightly better, more stable. This topic has probably been covered before so apologies.

430mm is maybe short but they have sliding dropouts that allow you to extend that to 445mm, some may like longer I suppose but hard to say without having a ride.

I have a hard tail with chainstay length adjustable from 455mm to 480mm and I'd say that is too long even at 455mm

I'm gonna say yes, but you probably knew I would. Might be that they're just looking to create a point of difference to the Solaris - appealing to people who think short stays are preferable?

I'll message you about tomorrow in a tick, BTW.

From the article over there --->

Pricing is pretty keen too with frames costing just £575

Just £575 eh? I don't usually accuse bike journos of being out-of-touch with paying for things, but y'know...

Not cheap, but £75 less than a Solaris Max which does without sliding dropouts.

Any frame weights yet?

The chainstays on the SC Chameleon are 415mm.

Ok so they need moving back a couple of mm to fit the 29er wheels in but its still around 420mm.

It doesn’t feel unbalanced on my xl frame which is quite long.

I guess if you're in the market for this type of bike and want the option of ss this is for you.

I like lots about it, steeper SA than the Solaris which is a big plus to me, but max 2.3" tyre clearance? They dropped the ball on that one if that's the case. Also not sure I'd ever put a rack and mudguards on a #hardcore HT, it's not a commuter and it detracts from the looks... I'd go for the Cotic... I think.

I knew you would say that yes, but after that small test I had I kind of agree. I think a magazine test with some other modern hardtails is needed. I'll quite happily make myself available for testing purposes.

Doesn't on my large Shan GT frame either but it's quite a short front center on mine.

The Pipedream moxie comes In at  415mm in the rear with 16mm ajustmnt to 431 on its sliding dropouts! Can’t say I’ve noticed it being in anyway bad in the rear also it’s a smidge longer that the paces xl model to.

Love the look of this! I may have even gone for one over my SolarisMax..

I just worry a little about back up support. They are a fairly small outfit I think.
