Have you seen the new eZesty:
It has the removable, and fairly subtle by the looks of it, motor and battery, so it can be run as a non ebike without a massive weight penalty?
I can't decide if this is brilliant or pointless? I mean it sounds like a nice idea, fit the motor and battery, do an assisted ride, remove them, and pedal yourself around, perhaps on flatter / shorter rides etc. But then again, if you have an eBike, why wouldn't you want to use the motor all the time? Also i do have some concerns over the durability of the thing, as it's clearly more complex than current ebikes, which can be fragile themselves, especially the motors....
What do people think? Brilliant or Pointless? You decide!!
The motor and battery are easily and quickly removable as far as I understand it.
Pretty handy when it ****s up as you could presumably just whip it out, cheaply and easily send away for repair/warranty and keep riding the bike. Unlike the shit I'm left wading through returning my whole bike to Ireland every 500 miles when my main motor/BB bearings start to die.
TBH I'm more interested in the weight savings of the Lapierre than ever removing the motor/battery but would like to see a 500wh version.
I have plenty non ebikes to ride tho.
TBH I think it's an irrelevance - nearly five grand for the 'entry level' one. With Deore kit.
Focus have been doing something with a removal battery for a while, too.

I reckon they’re going to sell bucket loads of the top spec one. I love the idea of a low boost lighter weight bike and it’s a looker. Ticks a lot of boxes.
I think it looks pretty interesting if it rides close to a 'regular' bike as promised. The small battery would be a worthwhile trade off for a better ride. If you took it shuttling to somewhere like FOD, you could always have a second battery stashed in the car to keep you riding longer. I heard the batteries were like £350, so a lot more affordable than the likes of Specialized, etc. They will sell loads of them.

It says you can remove the motor and battery.. not like it's been designed to ride like that, just appears to be a "bonus" feature.
Definitely the least hideous ebike I've seen anyway.
price aside, I don't mind that visually.
This would be perfect for my dad.
He wants an e-bike for some of the time and a normal bike for the other half.
He's in Switzerland, so a gentle ride around the lake doesn't require an e-bike but to get up into the hills, he just lacks the cardio these days. He want's some exercise but not too vigorous these days.
I can't find much detail on this design though. I assume you unbolt the BB motor & crank, slide out the battery and then bolt in a piece that already has the conventional BB and crank installed. Could be done in minutes if well designed. Add some durable plugs and it could be super easy. Certainly sounds like the future to me, especially if it looks as good as this.
I could imagine keeping a motor & battery in the shed for certain big days out, when I'm ill or for uplifts. I'll wait a few years until they've got this right. For me a dedicated E-bike isn't required, but a hybrid would be awesome.

No. It has been designed intentionally that way. Once removed there's a battery/motor blanking plate that fits on the downtube.

I think the general idea is that it's a modular system, so if you want more range you just fire in a battery or 2 into your back pack, the batteries seems reasonably light, i think it's 250wh, so options of 500 and 750 if you take 2 batteries. Seems like a decent idea, only problem I do see with that though is that these batteries aren't meant to be run down to 0, so you either aren't going to get full capacity of a 500wh battery, or you are possibly likely to damage them, as it's fairly easy to run them down at that low capacity surely?
your back pack
No thanks. I'd rather not ride at all than wear a backpack.

Looks less of an ebike than the new Marin, and less ugly too.
