You know when you go running or do something that you don't do very often and end up with legs in agony for couple of days.
Is there a name for it and anyway to fix it quickly?

DOMS. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
Do the exercise that causes the discomfort less and build up the length and intensity gradually. Gently stretch (not eccentricly) warmed up muscles. Gentle massage and cool down afterwards. Warm bath can help relieve the pain a little. It's minuscule damage to the muscle fibres caused during excerise that go on to repair stronger. It's a process that needs to occur.

DOMS - Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness

You can look at it two ways:

1. Your body is saying "Ouch! What did you do that for?"
2. Your body is saying "I was wondering when you were going to get up off your arse and keep me occupied"

Basically unless you use whichever muscle group regularly then the first couple of times that you really push them out of their comfort zone you are going to get this. How to fix it? A proper cool down - i.e. don't just stop at your front door, stop maybe half a mile before and walk/ride easily back home. Eat and drink properly once you finish. Massage. Apply liberal doses of Rule #5

I'm thinking you're describing DOMS.. delayed onset muscle soreness. I suffer if I've ignored the bike for running too long, I find best thing to beat it is something high in protein straight after exercise, some like the whey stuff you can buy and mix, I go for a milkshake, banana or tuna sandwich.
If legs are really sore the following day a gentle spin or jog will flush the toxins out of the muscles.

It was a 5k park run thing, woke up bored, went and ran it, got in a couple of sprints, enjoyed it, went home showered back in bed with a coffee within the hour.

I haven't run for a several months and even then 5k would be my max, on and off running means I'm familiar with the feeling just wondered if anyone had any miracle cures.

Looks like I'm just gonna have to man up!
