One thing I'd love to know is the number of participants over time. My assumption is that it has grown in popularity (it certainly seems to have), whilst the prize value has remained fairly constant (added a couple of lower level prizes I suppose) - price has remained pretty similar but odds of winning (which are unknown) have decreased which makes me less inclined to play.

Interesting that there are other limited participation comps run by Foxy too which may be to address concerns outlined above.

Not knocking the concept and the way it is run, seems a nice little business and Foxy comes over as a good bloke, and was happy to see Gnumas have some luck.

What’s this I’ve missed? If Gnusmas has won something that’s bloody brilliant news

Blimey, good on gnusmas. I would never have trusted an online competition that you have to pay to enter, without knowing somebody who had won. I sill don't for that matter 😆

Such is my point, increased popularity/participation = ever decreasing chance of winning

My friend one it last year and choose a Evil Wreckoning. What he didnt know was the parts added to the build are all priced at rrp so he ended up having to put his old cranks on.

Someone here definitely has won the full 6k bike (as well as gnusmas iirc), not sure if it was the first one or not.

Guy who lives a few miles form me won a blingy Hope HB160, similar to Gnusmas, the guy had a hard time with a big loss in the family in the not too distant future, so was great to hear.

It's a bit like those competitions with supercars you see at airports, buy a £20 'ticket' and have the chance of winning the whole thing in the raffle-type thing at the end. Effectively they keep it running until enough punters have signed up / bought enough shares to buy the whole car, then they raffle it and one of the punters gets the car. Often wondered how much the organisers make out of the deal. In this case, probably a different number of punters every week, rather than an ever-increasing number. Maybe.

Well they're not doing it just for the love of giving stuff away.

I've no issue with them making a profit from it 🙂

Not heard of this until this thread and the first thing I thought of were those cars in airports competitions. Would be interesting to know the odds and profit margin. This is surely a risker model than the car one which only pays out once the required number of tickets are bought. You'd imagine therefore there are more people than you'd imagine entering for it not to be too risky. Is VAT paid on this - presumably not as seem to remember it was removed from gambling.

I'm too head not heart for this I think - I just know the odd mean I'm unlikely to see a return and can't get any further than that.

Thanks for all the kind words. I didn't actually win a 6k bike, I won the weekly draw at Xmas. The prize was 1.5k of hope products, which I was over the moon with. When we spoke that evening and everything came out, he asked me to choose a bike instead against his own rules. With birthday and Xmas money from everyone, I was knocking on 2k. I then put £340 towards it to get that spec.

Well pleased with it. Still waiting for its maiden voyage, it should be a lot easier after Easter though.

Foxy really is a nice genuine bloke. He has now relaxed the rrp stipulation. Any bike from an lbs or mail order company, rrp or sale price, is fine. Or multiple bikes.

Botb is the company behind the ‘car in airport’. They also give away cash prizes and ‘lifestyle’ stuff. I have a dabble every now and then

I have a go at the Dream Bike Comp every month - just one ticket for £2.50 for the chance to win £6k's worth of bikes/stuff, seems like better odds than the lottery.
I also have a go at the weekly comps every now and again too for £1.

25p for the chance to win £5k is almost a giveaway

I get a couple of tickets on the monthly and used to play the weekly, but the newer limited ticket ones are better as you know the odds of winning. The MSRT transit and 6k bike one is good but expensive.

I've had my suspension serviced by Foxy and dropped it off there in person as work nearby, he's a genuine really nice guy and just came up with the idea to promote his servicing business, but it just grew from there into this big competition. Really active group on FB as well.

Yeah I won his first ever comp, a set of Fox 36's.  Still enter the weekly comp for a set of Nobl wheels or a Hope bundle and occasionally enter the bike comp and van comp.  As stated above Foxy is a genuine guy.

Foxy is a totally genuine guy and it's great to see someone come up with a idea and make a successful business from it.

I've entered every month since the 6k bike was started, also regularly do the weekly - haven't won anything.

Must have spent £300 in the last three years.

But..... I see it as buying a fellow mtb'rs a pint (or small part of their bike) if I don't win.

The van / bike combo I've entered, but won't now as it's a big chunk of cash for me to effectively put on a bet. Also although it's a great prize, I've no idea what I'd do with the van.

Bit of a bump on this.
Interest seems to have dropped in the comps through no fault of Grants.
Someone complained to PayPal about it being a scam and they suspended his account.
Long story short there was a hiatus of around a month as he tried to sort out PayPal but in the end had to go through hoops to get Barclay Card gambling approved account, those who had purchased tickets were fully refunded.
PayPal can't be used anymore and this seems to have put people off.
So if anyone has any interest in this then please go over to the site, buy a ticket and support a genuinely nice guys business.

Can’t believe anyone could think it’s a scam after all this time. I have an occasional dabble in the weekly and 6k bike ones. It’s nice to think what you’d get if you won. Definitely two bikes here. As someone said above, not winning is a bit like helping someone else get a nice bike 😀

On a side note re PayPal, they've stopped all raffles etc from using PayPal, as in their terms its classed as gambling as a couple of other companies I know of have had PayPal accounts suspended.

I used to just have a single go at the end of the month, did the last one and paid by credit card as you can’t use PayPal anymore.
Credit card bill came through and had a cash transaction charge added to it, so it cost me £5.50 for a single ticket instead of £2.50. I don’t use debit cards online so I’m out.
I asked foxy if anyone else had the same but he never replied. I wonder if that’s the reason the numbers have dropped off?

I’d ask the card company why they’ve marked it as a cash transaction?

I don’t know if it should be or not as you’re not purchasing anything, I know if you deposit to an online bookmakers with a credit card you get charged as a cash withdrawal so thought as this is gambling it might be the same.
That’s why I asked foxy if he was aware of it, anyway it’s not the end of the world it was just a bit of fun.

Still going - over half of the Van/Bike combo tickets sold.
£28.00 for the change to win £40k's worth of van & bike? seems like a bargain.

Perhaps @singletrackandi could do an interview with Grant for the site/mag?

Good idea. And possibly add to the credibility with any winners from STW? I'd be happy to do this as he upgraded my prize from hope parts to a bike after he found out about my situation. Just shows what a good bloke he is.
