Apologies if this has bin dun
A Romanian lorry driver decided his mobile was far more important than looking out of the windscreen.
Unfortunatly th traffic was staionary in front of him and the inevitable happened.
The driver was also being filmed on a 2 way dash cam . Its a bit scary if you ride alot on the road, or have been rear ended in a crash
The sentance was 8mth in prison and a ban of 3 years, followed by a re-test. If that is severe enough punishment is open to debate.
Good effort by the Astra driver to get out of the way.
It's a pretty major event in one's life I guess? An 8 month jail sentence and a 3 year driving ban, not so shabby a sentence if nobody was killed.
The driver is clearly an absent minded, selfish ****wit. He's very lucky no-one died.
He'll be driving again in a few years.
Can we have these cameras fitted to all commercial vehicles?
That is frightening
Sentence probably okay given people do worse and get chuff all ban
How stupid do you have to be, to break the law whilst a camera is pointing at you.
Another truck drivering idiot, plenty of them around.
Unfortunatly th traffic was staionary in front of him and the inevitable happened.
I doubt it's inevitable. I'd imagine hundreds or thousands of people do it every day. I've seen a few and I barely drive anymore.
I took a bus to London last week. I could not count the number of lorry drivers texting while they drove.
Most buses are littered with cameras, and there's usually one pointing over the top of the driver at the ticket machine.
I cant comment on trucks though.
Im a coach driver, id like it if other road users reported mobile phone use by bus/coach drivers, as there's no place for it on the roads.
I've been falsely accused a few times, easily disproved by cctv.
It baffles me why anyone with such a wanton disregard for the safety of others on the road hasn't been given a lifetime ban from all commercial driving. The prison sentence is just a joke.
The outcome of the crash could have been very different.
I doubt it's inevitable
So when you are reading a text whilst driving at speed on a 3 lane road , in a lorry , and lane one is stationary ( for whatever reason ) . What do you think is most likely to happen?
A .- Thunderbird 3 will descend from the clouds and you are whisked away at the last second, averting a pile up.
B.- Rachael Riley is teleported into you lorry cab and takes evasive action, whilst you get on with replying to your text
C.- You fail to notice the cars are not moving any more and you smash into them , but at least you are up to speed with dynamo Bucharests latests signing

Most likely people notice and stop. If it was inevitable or even likely you'd crash there'd be hundreds or thousands of accidents a day. There aren't.

Thunderbird 3 is a space rocket, and not equipped to lift another vehicle , where as thunderbird 2 is equipped with a magnetic grab to easily lift heavy metal objects.
what happens if youre an idiot not paying attention and you hit a few cars at 60 mph
Always wonder why there is not the technology to jam phones when the ignition is activated.
Signal jamming is illegal in the uk
Always wonder why there is not the technology to enable attention when the ignition is activated.
FTFY 8)
The technology does exist to track the eyeball and this could be used to sound an alarm ( and log the alarm ) when the eyeball is looking at low angles, could be linked to the tachograph as well .
A clever person then could work out if the power needs cutting as well, via a speed / attention algorithum.
Damn my lack of Thuderbirds knowledge , Mr Tracey.

I think its only electronic signal jamming that's illegal.
There was a landlord on the news recently, he'd had a copper coil (passive) installed in the ceiling of his pub to prevent customers using their phones, the landlord believes its anti social to use phones in his pub, perfectly legal by all accounts, so yeah could be an idea.
Won't stop you opening a pastie, packet of sandwiches, fiddling with your Radio/Mp3 etc though.
A34 lorry driver caught distracted by in cab camera changing music on mobile phone & killed family of 4, in cab cameras should be fitted to all vehicles in my opinion.
